How do I get things louder on my macbook with compression

This is not a logic question. Does anybody of you know how I can insert a compression effect on QT movies or itunes audio files to get my macbook speakers become more loudly (also lofi sound) without running logic?
Can I add compression to my "system sound"? The macbook speakers are so feeble.

You can use Audio Hijack Pro to hijack the output of any applications, and insert plugin compressors on the hijacked stream.
Great for podcasts where the hosts have, er, questionable audio skills and as such the levels are all over the place.

Back up all data before proceeding. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility window, select the icon of the startup volume from the list on the left. It will be nested below another disk icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar. When prompted, enter the login password of a user authorized to unlock the volume, or the alternate decryption key that was generated when you activated FileVault.
Then, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Turn Off Encryption
Enter the password again.
You can then restart as usual, if the system is working. Decryption will be completed in the background. It may take several hours, and during that time performance will be reduced.
If you can't turn off encryption in Disk Utility because the menu item is grayed out, you'll have to erase the volume and then restore the data from a backup. Select the Erase tab, and then select
Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
from the Format menu.
You can then quit to be returned to the main Recovery screen. Follow these instructions if you back up with Time Machine. If you use other backup software, follow its developer's instructions.
Don't erase the volume unless you have at least two complete, independent backups. One is not enough to be safe.

information and did it and it did not work. I did that BEFORE I found the info on going to the bottome of the page and making sure the little flag was a USA flag, which it already was.
Neither of these things fixed the problem.

There are several ways. The two easiest are to click the Junk icon to turn it off or right click the message and select Mart As-Not Junk.

I was downloading something from Acquisition this morning and my iTunes went haywire. Next thing I know my entire iTunes library was damaged and iTunes would not respond. After a number of tries, I dragged iTunes into the trash and figured I'd download a new one.
However, when I downloaded it from Apple I got a message that verification failed and then when I double-clicked the iTunes 6.0.5.dmg on my desktop I got the following message -- "the following disk images failed to mount (reason codec overrun)".
Help...Any ideas what happened and any idea how I can get back to normal?

How do you get multiple screens on the iPad with iOS 5.1.1? We just upgraded to iOS 5.1.1, and we see no way to be able to open multiple screens at once. Before, there was a small button in the upper portion of any window. That button would take you from a particular window to the place where multiple windows are open at once. Does it do it differently? Is there a special setting button that we have missed? Thanks!
One more thing: We are only talking about Safari.

I don't think I've seen a way to have separate Safari screens visible at the same time. The small thumbnails were deleted in one of the iOS updates, and replaced with a multiple "Tab" system.
You can open an additional screen in a new "tab" by pressing and holding on a link until a new menu comes up.

I don't use iCloud for such things, but I believe you go System Prefs > iCloud and check the slot by Notes. Or have you tried that?

I did a little research on this, as I found some strange things with the .plist files.
It appears that Apple has changed the way that the plist files are handled, and there is now an extra step in the trashing-the-.plist-file fix:
1. hold down the option key
2. in the Go menu in the Finder, scroll down to Libary
3. in Library, find Preferences
4. in Preferences, find com.apple.desktop.plist and drag it to the trash.
5. go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor
     1. Sort by Process Name and look for two processes named cfprefsd.
     2. Make sure you select the one that has your user account, not "root", listed as the User.
     3. Click the X up at the top left to kill that process
5. restart
6. this will generate a new .plist file, so you will have to reenter your preferences.

You don't use Airplay. You set up Home Sharing on both and under the Computers section of AppleTV you'll then find it under Movies (or Rentals if rented), assuming it's in a compatible format.

Your sidekick may be relaying through a different server. If its on AT&T, it could be using cwmx.com for outgoing. However, cwmx.com only works for AT&T/Cingular EDGE customers. When on Wi-fi it won't allow you to send through it.
Many internet providers, but not all, provide an authenticating SMTP server to use when travelling. If you configured your outgoing server to use the email providers authenticating SMTP server information on a port different from port 25, you will be able to use it on most networks. Some wireless networks filter a wider range of ports, such as some work places.
