How do I get to 'Shuffle Songs' after picking a track?

I am just getting to grips with my new iPod Classic 160GB (replacing a Sony NW-HD5H Network Walkman that simply didn't have enough capacity for my collection). There were a few functions I liked on my Sony that I can't seem to figure out on my iPod (apologies if the answers are obvious, but I've looked through the User Guide and they didn't answer them).
I like to play my whole collection randomly, so have selected 'Shuffle Songs' in the Music menu. Likewise, from the Main Menu I've selected Settings>Shuffle>Songs so it states Shuffle Entire Music Library. However, I sometimes like to pick a particular to play (selecting it through Music>Albums menu for example), and then presumed that after playing that track it would go into Shuffle mode from all tracks on the iPod, but it just keeps randomly playing the tracks from the Album I've selected. To get it back in full Shuffle Mode I have to go back to the Main Menu and click Shuffle Songs. Is there any workround I can do so my iPod will automatically go back into full Shuffle Mode after I've chosen to play a particular track?
Secondly, if in Shuffle Mode it plays a track and I then want to play another track from the same album, is there any quick way of getting to that album, rather than having to go through the Main Menu to do Music>Albums and having to scroll through hundreds of albums to get to the one that's already being played in Shuffle Mode?
Apart from these, I'm having great fun acquanted with my iPod. My Sony looks like a bit of a dinosaur in comparison!
Thanks in advance!

To answer your first question, that is how it works. When you go into a playlist of some sort, either one you made in iTunes or going into an Artist list, an album, etc. when you play from that list it will stay in that list. If your iPod is set up to shuffle songs, then it will shuffle just that list you are in. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to go into a list, pick a track then have it automatically jump out of the list and start shuffling the entire library.
Unless you go to Music -> Songs which shows ALL the songs in your library and find the track from that location. Then it would shuffle the list you are in, Songs, so is a round about way to play a track you want then continue to shuffle through your entire library. But the hard part is scrolling through thousands of songs to find that one you want to start with.
As to your second question, I assume you mean if you are shuffling the entire library from "Shuffle Songs" item off the main menu, then the answer is no, you can not easily jump from a randomly playing track to a listing of the other tracks of that album. You would have to jump up to the main menu, Music -> etc.

  • How do you get iTunes purchased songs to automatically play one after the other

How do you get iTunes purchased songs to play automatically one after the other without having to hit play for each song ? Also I lost all my pictures on my iPad when I installed iOS 7 upgrade. Any way to get them back? Thanks. Dr Ron.

    Hi Dr. Ron,
By your question, I am wondering if you are playing your music from the iTunes app rather than the Music app?
In the Music App, you can go to any of the options at the bottom and click on a song to play and it will then continue to play the songs in that category. You can also select "Shuffle" to shuffle them.
As for your Photos, did you have them backed up anywhere?
    Cheers,

  • I had to buy a new laptop after my old one died, after authorising my new one nearly my whole library has disappeared. How do I get all my songs back?

I had to buy a new laptop after my old one died, after authorizing my new one nearly my whole library has disappeared. How do I get all my songs back?

Likely, because you are now using a different Apple ID and iTunes account. Return to using your old Apple ID and authorize only after you have de-authorized your old computer.
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.
For more information on authorization and de-authorization: iTunes Store- Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC.

  • HT1473 How do I get a purchased song to play on my ipod shuffle remote from the docking station?

How do I get a purchased song to play on my ipod shuffle remote from the docking station?

I can think of only one reason a song would be "converted" while it is being loaded on a shuffle.
Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, depending on iPod model, go to the Summary or Settings tab.  There should be a setting there that says Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC (the 128 kbps part may be adjustable).  If that checkbox is checked, try unchecking it.
NOTE:  This setting may allow more songs to fit on the shuffle, but for any converted song, the sound quality will become inferior.  So I don't use it.

  • IPOD touch 32 gig not shaking to shuffle songs after 3.1 upgrade

iPod Touch NOT shuffling songs after updating to 3.1 software update. How do you get it to shake to shuffle songs? I have tried and tried to no avail. I have checked settings and it says, "Shake to shuffle" is ON! What is up with this? Thanks!

    Hello:
Yes, I have turned the iPod Touch on and off, I have tried to turn the feature on and off etc. It's very odd. I have even gone to YouTube to watch videos of other people shaking their iPod Touch to see if I am not doing it right. Well, I have shaken the daylights out of this unit and it won't go to another song what so ever.

  • How do I get rid of songs from my phone?

Like whenever I want to delete a song from my phone, it shows the icloud sign. When I shuffle the music, it will still play the song. I just want to get rid of them off my phone so it won't play it ever again. I have ios 7.0.4. I know in ios 6 when you delete a song, it goes away from your library. How do I get rid of songs on ios 7 and not keep playing them?

I think there must be a bug somewhere.  Some songs I can delete and they disappear.  But none of my attempts to remove the Justin Timberlake song from Apple's 12 days of gifts have gotten me very far.  I can 'delete' it so that it is listed as needing to be downloaded again.  But it seems to be just marked as deleted.  If I turn off 'Show all music' in my Settings, the song remains there, but no longer has the cloud icon beside it, but also will not swipe to show the delete button.  If I turn 'Show all music' back on, the cloud icon reappears.  Regardless the song will play, even in airplane mode.  So it is clearly still on my iPad.
I have tried resetting my iPad - changes nothing.  Apple seems determined that we keep this song!
Also, since I attempted to delete the song immediately after it downloaded, it doesn't appear on my iMac iTunes synch page.  So I can't try to get rid of it that way.
    Very frustrating.

  • How to I get my shuffle & iPod to work on my new laptop....

My old desktop died and my songs are songs?
    1) How do I get my shuffle & my iPod to connect to my new laptop when it used to be assigned to my old dead desktop?
    2) How do I get my purchased iTunes songs from Apple since I cannot get them from the dead desktop computer?
    Thanks,
    Bill Fee

*How do I get my shuffle & my iPod to connect to my new laptop when it used to be assigned to my old dead desktop?*
1). Connect your iPod to your computer (this won't work for the shuffle by the way which doesn't have the same manual setting the larger iPods have, you don't actually say what model the other iPod is). If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
*How do I get my purchased iTunes songs from Apple since I cannot get them from the dead desktop computer?*
If your iPod still has the purchases on it then any of the methods above will let you transfer them back to the computer. However if they aren't on the iPod and if you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on the link at the bottom of this page you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • How do I get my Shuffle to stop syncing???

When I plug in my shuffle, it automatically syncs with Itunes. I don't want it to do that - I want to choose which songs go on the shuffle, and I want to keep some off. All the directions in the Help section refer to tabs I don't have on my Itunes, like "Summary" and "Music." How do I get my shuffle to stop syncing with itunes??

iTunes actually performs a consistency check between the shuffle's contents and iTunes library... tracks not in the library are deletde from the shuffle. NO tracks are automatically added. YOu do that by selecting "autofill" and a target source... OR drag and drop music from the iTunes library ("Music")
Have you actually ever read the manual?
    It's available here:

  • Family shares an itunes account and ALL songs loaded on my phone with ios 7. how do I get only my songs?

My family shares an itunes account and ALL their songs loaded on my phone with ios 7 upgrade. Previously, while I could SEE songs "Not on this iPhone" they did not reside on my phone.  How do I get only my songs?  Do I have to sync with my computer?  Help...

This is sad, as I am replying to myself. Upon further review I see that while all songs are LISTED, that are not actually there.  By going to Settings - iTunes & App Store - "Show All" I was able to "turn off" SEEING purchases not made on my phone.  Solved my own problem, but the way it looks in IOS 7 is confusing.
