How do I get video shot by someone else on my Mac to edit it Final Cut?

I've just purchased Final Cut Express. I have been working in iMovie. I am hosting a birthday party and hiring a videographer to do the filming. I want to do the editing in Final Cut Express.
What is the best way to get the video onto my iMac? I would like to give the videographer an external hard drive to put the video on, but I don't know what to tell him as far as the format. I believe he will have to first put the video on some computer (his) and then move or copy it to my external drive. Right? What should I tell him as far as format? He's saying either AVI or MPG. Is that right? If yes, which is better. If no, what should I tell him?

Here's the answer, although based on what your videographer suggested, he may not like it.
But, you are the customer ...
If he shoots regular 4:3 aspect ratio standard def DV video, he should deliver it to you as QuickTime/DV-NTSC video files (.mov files, not .dv files).
If he shoots highdef, it should be either +1080i60 or 720p30+ delivered as +QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec+ video files (.mov files, and note the codec required).
(ps. the hard drive must be formatted as Mac OS Extended)
If he can do this, when you get your hard drive back you should be able to import the video right into FCE (of course, using the appropriate FCE Easy Setup).

There are Video_TS.BUP, Video_TS IFO, Video_VOB files. I have a prism converter so I converted the files to MP4 thinking I could then copy them into Final Cut Pro to edit etc but Final cut pro comes back with error message "File Error: Unknown file"
I tried converting to .mov but same message. Can any one help please.

Actually, if you're not doing any editing beyond separating the different films and are willing to dive into a slightly deeper end of the pool, you can use mpeg streamclip to "demux" the dvds into m2v (video) and ac3 (audio) files and bring these files into dvdsp and set start and ends for each section to make individual dvds. This will allow you to repurpose the material without any loss in quality. If you convert the material from the dvd into quicktimes suitable for editing in fcp and then recompress them for authoring back to dvd, you will have some quality loss. Whether the loss is enough to worry you, you'll have to decide for yourself.

You're welcome.
What's likely happened is that when you transferred the video to the new machine they lost their dates.
Photos use the Exif metadata to record the date and time of the shot. This is quite different from the date and time of the file, which can change as the file is copied from place to place. Video doesn't have Exif, and so iPhoto uses the file date, and that's changed.
Simply, there's no absoultely reliable way to date video.
Try assign dates with the Batch Change command under the Photos menu.

First of all Limewire isnt illegal because it uses the money from the ads pay for the songs.
Second Its really simple.
After you download the video from limewire open up your videora iPod Converter.
From there click on the "Convert" tab in the left display panel
You will see a "Transcode New Video" button. Click on that and it should bring you to a folder of all your videos. If you dont see the video you want to convert then click on the dropdown arrow where it says "Files of Type" and select all files and choose from there
Once you select your movie click open
Then click the start button right near the "Transcode New Video" button
Wail till your download is finished(this could take hours or seconds so be patient)
Once your video is done being converted click the "Setup" tab to the left.
Find where is says "Output Videos To" and copy the destination.
Paste that destination in internet explore and it will bring you to the folder with the converted movies
Bring into iTunes and enjoy
Make sure you have the specific iPod Converter from Videora

AIM 6.5 and 6.8 On Vista and XP
AIM 5.9 or earlier can not be installed on Vista.
AIM 6.5 and 6.8 use a new video codec with a description of "Real Time IM"

Windows 7 will download video just fine via the USB cable and your Import utility on the computer. Connect the device to the computer and it should open Auto Play and provide you a selection to import photos and video. The video would be saved in whatever location you have set up in Auto Play. Generally the default is the Video Library.

to use video you need an upgrade. The name is handheld device software OS. I believe you have 4.2. 4.5 is required.

I think I have found the app, I was not seeing the obvious, so I can now play videos on the Ipod itself. With regards the cable it is a Dexim unit which plugs into the long Ipod socket on the base.From that unit there is a cable terminated with jackplugs.One end into the dexim unit another into the projector. As I said it worked fine on a 2nd generation, I just played the video on the 2G Ipod and it came thru onto the projector. Hence my thought that it was a setting and/or app on the 4thG Ipod.

How can I get videos from iTunes US, living in Switzerland?

Hi guys =)
I have already pre-ordered the iPod Touch and alomost can't wait until the 2nd October =P
Well, I am a big fan of Dr House and Desperate Housewives. I saw that I cannot buy videos on the swiss iPod Store.
I wanted to know how I could get videos from the US iTunes Store. Is that possible? And if it is do I need a credit card or a gift card?
Hope it'll be clear enough... Usually I don't explain the things very clearly =P
