How do I give less memory to my boot camp and more to my Mac HD?

I had a friend set up my Bootcamp for me.  (He is great with this type of thing and I had no clue.)  I used to have a job where I needed to use Windows to run my work program.  So he gave a certain amount of my memory to that and left a certain amount for my Mac HD.  However, I no longer have that job and I am only using my Bootcamp to run one Windows program.  I rarely use it but still need it.
I now want to make it so that I have more memory on my Mac HD and less on the Bootcamp.  If anyone can tell me how to do that it would be so greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!
I have a MacBook running Lion 10.7.3.  Processor 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.  Here is some information from the System information if it is helpful:

The only other way is to erase the Windows partition and start over.
You have about the bare minimum partition size for Windows with 26 gigs now so a few extra taken back wouldn't really help much. You only have 9 gigs free space available so in theory you could only take away 6 gigs or so and still leave enough room for the OS to work.
You need to have an extra 15%~ of extra space (on any OS) for any updates or installers to expand and install the software, they could take up to twice to three times as much room to expand from the original installer file.
If you need more room then you may want to look at maybe a larger main HD, (especially if it's the original drive, gettin old) an external HD or even a USB stick for the extra room you need. A 32 gig USB thumb drive is around $30 now, (on sale) way more capacity then you would get back from the trouble of repartitioning.
My 2 cents worth anyway........

  • How to partition 1 HD for OS X, Boot Camp, and a second OS X?

I have a new MB Pro and need the following setup:
    A partition running OS X 10.5.
Another partition running OS X 10.5.
    Another partition for Windows OS.
I first used Disk Utility to partition the HD into three segments. I installed OS X on two of the segments.
I then opened Boot Camp Assistant to install the Windows OS.
I got a message that the startup disk must be a single volume Mac partition.
How can I segment the internal HD into three separate units?

You can probably just boot from Vista or Windows 7, but not XP, and use the 3rd partition, and you will need to carefully delete and create your NTFS volume.
Boot Camp Assistant is a 'crippled' partition manager and it sure would be nice if it was incorporated into Disk Utility itself - fully. Or 3rd party, iPartition or even Paragon-Software Partition Manager 10/Suite (never tried but it does have a Mac Boot Camp wizard assistant).

  • How can I get MagicTrackpad to work with Boot Camp and Windows Vista?

Just installed Lion and then installed Magic Trackpad. Now I need to know how to get the Magic Tackpad to work with Windows Vista in my Boot Camp partition. Windows Bluetooth recognizes the Magic Trackpad but it says the device won't confirm the passkey. No passkey came with the Magic Trackpad and the option to not use a passkey still doesn't achieve connection with Windows. Suggestions/ comments, please.
    TIA,
    Picman

    UPDATE
Just completed several lengthy sessions with Apple Tech Support (escalated to excellent Sr. Advisor). Bottom line is that there seems to be no answer to the problem of the Magic Trackpad not being able to maintain its pairing/connection with Windows (Vista in my case) or OS X (10.7 in my case) when switching Boot Camp partitions. In fact, when trying to re-pair it is necessary to remove the MTP batteries first. To pair at all with Windows requires the use of the Bluetooth passkey "0000" (not provided in MTP documentation). This achieves limited MTP/Windows functionality (cursor and "click" control only - with BC 3.1. BC 3.2 is supposed to provide more gestures, but I have not gotten there yet). Appears that when switching back to OS X, that passkey has remained with the MTP and is not what OS X is looking for, so it fails the connection. Removing/replacing the batteries probably dumps the passkey and allows the OS X connection. The Sr. Advisor says he sees this issue often (including with Windows 7) in their internal chat rooms, but no solution. He will be referring it to the engineers and will let me know the outcome. Meantime, assuming I keep the MTP, I'll have to resign myself to using a wired mouse when going to Windows (not a huge inconvenience, since it's only for Quicken; but the issue is worse than "in-elegant" for Apple!
I am satisfied that I have obtained the best possible help from Apple on this issue. If anybody has more, please reply.
    Thanks,

  • How many licenses for Windows 7 via both Boot Camp and either VMware Fusion or Parallels on the same MacBook?

This concerns a white MacBook running OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.
If I install Windows 7 on my MacBook with Boot Camp, and then use either VMware Fusion or Parallels to access that Boot Camp partition, will I need to buy two Windows licenses from Microsoft?
I had not anticipated this, but when calling VMware and Parallels to check out the tech support services of the two companies, the person at VMware mentioned that I would need two licenses.  When I called Parallels, I then asked the person at that company whether two Windows licenses would be needed.  That person told me that only one license would be necessary.
I then called Microsoft.  The representative there told me that my question could not be answered by Microsoft because that company does not provide support for users installing Windows on Apple computers.
After that, I called Apple.  The Apple representative was not familiar with this type of issue.  She mentioned the possibility that the VMware Fusion and Parallels products might be different, and that that might be why using the former would involve two licenses and using the latter would involve only one license.
Has anyone had experience with installing Windows 7 via Boot Camp, and then accessing that Windows 7 installation from VMware Fusion or Parallels?  If so, did you have to buy two Windows licenses?

One license. You may have to re-register Windows online when you start it up in Parallels because Windows sees that it is now running on new hardware (virtualized) and thinks it has been installed on a new computer. If the online re-registration does not work, just call the registration number and go through the automated registration process. Once re-registered then use Windows from Parallels. If you are also installing MS Office in Windows you will need to go through the same process again for registering Office.
The process is automated, simple, and free. You have made the process more complicated than it is by calling Apple, Parallels, and Microsoft when there is an automated MS registration number to call.

we have 5 devices on one itunes account how do I give them each their own icloud account and still share the itunes account?

You need a unique AppleID for each iCloud account.  So grab some free gmail, hotmail, aol, yahoo or whatever email addresses to make five new AppleIDs.  Now, everybody make an iCloud account for themselves, and keep the existing shared AppleID and password just for use in the iTunes and App Stores.  You can also each use your own unique AppleIDs to make iMessage accounts and keep those separate as well.

How can I delete useless memory on both my iPhone and my Macbook Pro?

I don't know much about iPhones but when you write "memory" do you mean the data on your hard drive on your MacBook Pro? If so, simply drag the items you deem as useless into the Trash and empty the Trash. DON'T fool around with any of the system items, just your own documents that you feel that you no longer need.
You can get an answer on freeing up space on your iPhone in the iPhone forum.

Unfortunately, the recording & movie industry does not respect the rights of the people who make them money, and thus you can only use the paid-for content in ways they see fit. Even if I lived in a bunker where no one else could possibly see the movie I paid for, therefor I'm not 'sharing it illegally', I would still not be allowed in a blue moon to copy that movie to DVD for TV viewing. Someone will tell you to get an AppleTV. How about Apple give us one for free? Until this changes, people wanting to use their content in multiple locations will continue to download music & movies via torrents, legally or illegally.

Okay so this is my machine. I want to run Boot Camp and to install Windows XP onto the machine as I need to use certain windows programmes for my business as well as the Mac stuff.
I have no idea how to partition some of my free 26gb space to create a drive to install windows onto?
    Can any help please?

If you do really want to partition your hard drive then you need to look in your utilities folder for disk utility.
Once this is open, click on your hard drive image in the left hand column and then you will see a partition tab. Here you can split your HD into two partitions. Call one of them XP or something like that so that you know where to install windows.
It's quite safe and you can always go back to one big partition if things do not work out.
    Remember though to backup first...
    To the OP
Do not heed this advice, you should use Boot Camp Assistant to create the partition for Boot Camp, do not use Disk Utility.

  • How can I use TopLink for querys that have two and more tables?

I use TopLink today, and I can use one table to query, but how can I use TopLink for querys that have two and more tables?
Thank you for see and answer this question.

You can write a custom SQL query and map it to an object as needed. You can also use the Toplink query language "anyOf" or "get" commands to map two tables as long as you map them as one to one (get command) or one to many (anyOf command) in the toplink mapping workbench.

Try running XP in a VM or aquire Windows 7 which is the only one supported now.
And you will need more like 60GB for Windows 7, so I would skip on 20GB just to be safe.
20G is a fine minimum for XP, I was not responding to any inquiry about Win 7.

What is the error? Are you following the Bootcamp instructions? Where on the "internet" are you trying to install from? Did you try downloading from here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/downloads/?
