How do I go back to an older version of iTunes using Time Machine?

This latest version of iTunes (v.12) is crashing, not to mention when I connect my iphone or ipod it's not only harder to use them but I can no longer see the break-down of what is on them, e.g. now it's just "12 GB full" rather than "9GB music, 1GB audiobooks, 2GB podcasts". I want to go back to the previous version but Time Machine just says iTunes "can't be modified or deleted." Is there a way around this?

Do a web search for "revert iTunes". There are many web sites with detailed instructions. It is a complicated process and I do not think it can be achieved with Time Machine alone. Time Machine can act as a source for your old library file but the rest involves going into protected files and folders of the system and removing various components. Oh, the version to which you want to revert also has to be one of the few still available for download. I don't, for example, think you can download a copy of iTunes 12.0 It would have to be 11.4 and you would have to have a backup copy of your library file from back when you used that version.

I want to back up my current hard drive with all current content. I don't necessarily need what was on the old hard drive and pre-crash Time Capsule as everything there is currently residing on my i.mac's hard drive. I just want to start my backups again. Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
Open Time Machine
Turn Time Machine "ON"
Click Select Disk
Choose your Time Capsule
Click Use This Disk
The first backup will begin in a few minutes.
If you decide to delete your old backups, do this before you back up the "new" Mac as listed above.
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Disks tab at the top of the window
Click Erase
Choose the Quick Erase option
Click Erase Disk
The operation will only take a minute or two.....then, you can set up the first backup of the Mac as listed above.

Good/Bad idea: restore slightly older version of iTunes with Time Machine?

Hi folks,
For years, my old but reliable Rio Cali mp3 player worked fine with iTunes and my Mac. All of a sudden, not only does iTunes not connect with the Rio, but it freezes/crashes the MacBook when I try! I've troubleshooted this several ways, including using different mini-USB sync cables (in case of short circuit) and even buying a much newer Rio Cali player, but same result. Then I searched the web, found that other Mac/iTunes 8.0.2 users have found the same problem ever since late November '08. Even though iTunes officialy says it's compatible with Rio Cali, it clearly is not.
So I'd like to go back to using 8.0.1 of iTunes (or perhaps 8.0). Can I use Time Machine to do this safely? All I want is the earlier version of iTunes, not the earlier version of all my iTunes music and App store app holdings! I know I can use Time Machine to restore for instance an MS Word document or my entire computer, but can I use it to restore just a single application, namely iTunes 8.0.1? What do I risk by trying? (I'd prefer not to screw up lots of other things).

[PS Yes, I realize that it would be easier just to drop the old mp3 player. But it's nearly a one of a kind sports/athlete-oriented player -- rubberized and water-resistance-sealed for runners like me, useful logical hard buttons, and FM reception. iPod and nearly all other players fall short in each of these features which are important to me. Ha! The manufacturer's support site? Rio went out of business a few years ago! Their websites still exist, but their last support posts about Mac iTunes compatibility are from 2004 and 2006. At that time, there was native compatibility, and there was also an iTunes plug-in which one could download and install in order to make the player and iTunes talk to each other (although I never needed it). That was back in the days of OS 10.2 and perhaps 10.3. That plug-in installer these days does nothing, it won't even finish running if one tries running it now. I know, since I've tried, and since I've thoroughly researched the other people and posts from Rio owners whose iTunes suddenly stopped working recently. I made a bug report to Apple, but who knows if re-establishing the compatibility is any kind of priority to them (doubt it). So I'm trying to handle this by using a slightly older iTunes version because I doubt there is any other fix.

When I downloaded Firefox 5.0, I suddenly had only ONE Bookmarks Toolbar. With the older version, I had 2 and was going to add a 3rd one.

Another reason I loved using this computer was autofill, now that does not work the same either, I have to respond twice to get my info to fill in. I fill out many forms in a day and this change has been so bad that I have downloaded Mozilla Firefox to use instead. Quit Safari.
Open Keychain Access /Applications/Utilities
Select Passwords on the left. Delete any keychains for sites you have problems logging into.
Relaunch Safari. Go to Safari / Preferences - Autofill. Make sure all three boxes are selected.
Now navigate to a site, login with your user name and password. You should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain. Click Yes.
If you still have problems, go to ~/Library/Cookies. Move the Cookies.plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) represents your Home folder.
Try logging into a site again.

Since the iTunes update to 10.6 everytime I open iTunes there is an error message that says that iTunes has encountered an error and needs to shut down. Is there a way to fix this or go back to an older version of iTunes?

Numbers 3.2 has changed too much, it doesn't work with my project anymore. 1) The sheet panels used to be on the left hand side and easily reviewable and searchable, but now they are on the top and it's harder to find a specific folder without scrolling (too time consuming), 2) I used to be able to duplicate a folder within my sheet panel window by simply clicking on a folder and hitting Command D, but that doesn't work now so it looks like I'll have to spend even more time to recreate the same tables that used to be easily duplicated, and 3) I can't choose fill colors that matched my project anymore because there are only limited choices available now. And these are only the changes that I'm aware of. I am very disappointed and frustrated. Whatever the motivation was to limit Numbers 3.2, I want the previous version back. How do I revert back to the previous version I was using?

You can scroll more quickly between sheets if you don't use the left-right triangles, but instead move the cursor up into the bands with the "tabs" and drag right or left.
Also, if you have a lot if sheets for which you want a quick vertical list, then you can try the following have something like this pop up (showing your sheet names automatically) whenever you hit a keyboard shortcut (in my case shift-command-j):

Can I go back to an older version of iTunes that'll support both my iPhone 4S w/iOS6 and my 2009 MacBook running Leapord 10.5.8? I simply want everything to work the way it had been forever until recently. However, I can't imagine Apple would intentionally make their own products obsolete by rendering them useless through a software "upgrade." My MacBook is only 3 yrs old so I feel like I am simply missing 1 piece to this puzzle in order for things to start working again. I have my MacBook, iPod and iPhone 4S all set up to install updates automatically so if I need to uninstall certain updates and revert back to ones that work will that even be an option? Thanks

How do I access photos that were backed up onto an external hard drive using Time Machine?

I used to own a PC. When my computer got too full, I would back up some of my photo albums onto an external hard drive (simply by copying and pasting what I wanted to save on the hard drive) and then delete them on my computer to free up space. Occassionally, I would still plug in my hard drive to access and use those photos when needed. I now own a Macbook Pro and after having issues with my old hard drive, I bought a hard drive compatiable with Macs. I plugged in the hard drive and backed up my entire computer using Time Machine. Now I would like to delete some of my photo albums to free up space on my computer. Before I do that, I would like to double check that they are indeed on the hard drive, but every time I try to open my iPhoto Library from the hard drive I get this error message: "The iPhoto library is a Time Machine backup, and so cannot be used as the main library. Reopen iPhoto with the Option key held down to choose another library." So I tried doing that, but the only option that comes up is my main iPhoto library on my computer. I can't seem to access what is on my hard drive.
I don't plan on deleting ALL of my photo albums, just a few. So I also want to make sure that the next time I plug in my hard drive to back stuff up, it won't copy just what is on my computer and override the last backup, because that would mean losing missing albums I had already deleted. I just want to be able to access photos on my hard drive when I want and occassionally manually add a few more albums to it. I don't intend to keep backing up my entire computer. My main concern are my photos.
