How do i go backwards with iWeb?

I built and posted four different web sites using iWeb - great product, I love it. I published to my hard drive then uploaded using Fetch.
Like a goof I then crashed my hard drive without a backup. Can I go backwards from what lives on the web sites back to iWeb?

No
Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
For future reference, I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). http://iweb.varkgirl.com

  • How to create a wiki with iWeb ?

    Hi !
Any idea about how to create a wiki with iWeb ?
I want to make a school web page but, instead of doing it myself, I thought it would be more interesting to make every student contribute - that's the point of making a wiki ! Could anyone help me ?
    Many thanks !
    Cheers.
    Chris.

I know Apple's tools are VERY compelling and tremendously cool to use, but, given the collaborative nature of this endeavor, you may want to look at some internet enabled tools that, by their nature, allow many users to update the content from anywhere.
Currently, if you're editing a page in iWeb, the information for that site is kept in the domain.sites folder. For several people editing the site, you would have to shuttle this file back and forth between all the users. If user A is currently editing the site, user B would have to wait until they're finished to get the file. If user A wants to make some changes, they'd have to wait until user B sends the file back to them and we haven't even got to the point of letting user C, D, or E have access to the content in order to make updates!! Add everyone else in the school and you would have to make sure this one file makes it across tens of computers without becoming corrupted and making sure that only one person is making changes at a time. This would limit the number of updates that can be handled on a regular basis (what if user M gets ill before handing it off to user N, now NO one can make updates until user M remembers where they left the content... if they didn't erase it).
However, if you're willing to severely limit the scope of what a wiki is, then you can get input from everyone and enter it with just a few users that have access to edit the content.

  • How to upload an Hompage with iWeb with other website nam

I'm an Amateur in this and wanted to ask how can I upload a Website with iWeb or other Programm with an other Address
    Thanks

Actually, forwarding has nothing to do with name servers. You should not need to alter these at all.
Did you fill in your personal domain in your MMe account to use the CNAME forwarding option? If so, then at your host you should have gone and altered the DNS settings. You need to enter something similar to www, then select the CNAME option from a drop down menu and then forward to web.me.com.
If you are not using the CNAME option, then you can use ordinary web forwarding which entails going to web forwarding and forwarding your domain to web.me.com/username/sitename.
Name Server settings should not enter into any of this, it should just be either your DNS settings or web forwarding.
So, if you entered your personal domain name into your MMe account and forwarded to web.me.com, then somewhere along the line, you should have entered and set up CNAME in your DNS settings.
If you did not do this, then I believe that the "Kind folk at the Apple store" have given you incorrect information.

  • How do I use webfonts with iWeb?

I have purchased some webfonts from MyFonts and followed their instructions, adding an HTML snippet with the required code.
When I view the site on a computer without the fonts installed it replaces the fonts with standard serif and non-serif fonts.
The webfonts are available on the root level of the server along with the provided CSS file that uses them. The HTML code
refers each page to this CSS file.
    Can anyone help?

Is there anyway I can use iWeb to publish a simple good-old-fashioned html document?
No. The whole purpose of iWeb is to enable people who don't know how to do what you did to publish websites anyway. All you need to do to "publish" your site is to put it on a server, either on .Mac via drag/drop or on something else via ftp.

  • How to usa flash media with iWeb?

I'm trying to build a nice .Mac website, but I'm having problems using flash files. Does anyone have an answer to this problem? Or will Apple need to update their iWeb software to include this feature?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    James,
Thank you. Actually, it was you who got me started using Flash! I visited your baby's gallery (very cute) a while back and recall you mentioning you'd acheived the effects with Flash.
Is the photo animation part of the navigation menu flash movie?
They're separate .swf files as I want to have a different animation for each page banner whilst retaining the continuity of a single navigation bar. Currently, only my main blog page has an animated banner.
And do you just reserve the space with a text box and then edit the code later?
I tried that at first, but found that the iWeb generated HTML code for the text box was sometimes the last peice of code before the footer code (go figure) and simply swapping the code would displace other iWeb generated elements.
    My solution was to first uncheck the Include page in navigation menu and Display navigation menu check boxes and create a header space big enough to hold the animations. Then I would place the Flash code directly after the beginning of the header_layer in the HTML and surround it with it's own div tags like so;
    div style="height: 20px; width: 299px; top: 141px; left: 0px; position: absolute" id="NavigationBar"
What app do you use to generate your flash menus?
I used Flash 8 to generate the navigation bar using different .png files to define the in, out and down states. It took me about 15 minutes. It's very simple, even for me! The nine .png files (3 for each item) took me about 4 hours in PSE3! I'm no graphic artist! I can send you the Flash source code if you wish.
I just took another look at your gallery..... Now, that is slick!

  • How do you publish pages with iweb using multiple computers?

I own a business and have been creating a website through iweb. My partner has done the bulk of the work on his laptop. I created a page on mine, but cannot seem to figure out how to get it loaded into the site on his computer.
    Can anyone help?

You can't merge the separate data contained on the two computers, so you will probabably need to recreate your page on the other machine. It's possible to use two computers to work on a site by exchanging the data file between them. This file is at
    Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain
But you need to have the same one on both machines if they are both editing the same site.

  • How can outside users access my iWeb sites shared via Web Sharing

Since the coming demise of mobileme/idisk I have decided to publish all of my websites locally (created with iWeb) and share them by the Web Sharing feature in OS X. Everything works perfectly from any computer or device that is on my home network but once I am outside my network I cannot access any of my website nor can any family members. I have an airport network at home using an airport extreme and numerous computers and devices (ipods, ipad, etc) on the network. All can access from within the network but not from outside.  What can I do to fix this?
I don't want to use a commercial service since my sites are large.  Tried Dropbox and it was too cumbersome.

  • Publishing Third Party Generated Pages with iWeb to .Mac

I'm considering using KavaTunes to publish my iTunes library. Looks like a great app. But, I'm a little confused. I'm using iWeb to publish my site to .Mac now. How do I use KavaTunes with iWeb. I can use iWeb to publish to a folder. But, Apple doesn't give instructions for how to publish out to an iWeb created site on .Mac using FTP.
I find this to be an issue with any third party app that generates web pages with images, etc. How do I get those loaded up to my .Mac site generated with iWeb?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    dotMac doesn't use FTP.
You create your 3rd party pages and copy them to iDisk>Web>Sites folder.
Put them in a folder of their own. In iWeb create a link to these pages.
KavaTunes no doubt has a Help file that tells you how to publish pages. Start learning to use the program and stay away from iWeb for a while. No need to double the problems.
BTW, you need PHP on the server side. dotMac has no PHP.

  • Changing categorie/genre with iWeb

I started a Wine-Podcast called "BerlinKitchen" and released it with iWeb. Now, I wanted to change my categorie in the iTunes-Store. How could I change it with iWeb? Now, I am by my mistake in the wrong categorie and want to change it to FOOD.
    itpc://rss.mac.com/martinbarz/iWeb/berlinkitchen/Podcast/rss.xml
    Thank you for your help,
    Martin

For the first question: I just wanted to use an iweb
template instead of the blogger ones provided but
can't figure out how to do this. Maybe it isn't
    possible.
It's not possible. They are two different systems.
    Second question:
I'm actually wanting to set up a new website under my
domain name. The thing is I've spent hours and hours
putting everything onto my freewebs.com account so
want to know if I can transfer the pages over onto my
domain name without starting from scratch. So I'm
wanting to do the reverse which is transfer all the
stuff from freewebs to my own domain and then use a
    iweb template.
If you are talking about getting a paid hosting account somewhere else along with your domain name, then sure...you should be able to move your site files from freewebs to any other server. But if you are just interested in getting a domain name, you can just get only the domain name and have it forwarded to your freewebs site. And like your first question, it's not going to be easy putting your existing site on an iWeb template. You will basically have to create each page from scratch and copy and paste stuff from the old to the new. iWeb doesn't "import" any HTML files.

  • How do I add a type tag to my enclosure with iWeb?

I encode my video with QuickTime, manage my website with iWeb, and upload it to the web with Transmit.
A few episodes ago, my podcasts stopped updating on Podcast Alley. Tech support pointed out the problem: There are no type tags on any of my enclosures.
From what I gather, the type tag tell you what kind file it is - ie, a .m4v
I don't have any idea how to add a type tag to an enclosure using iWeb, and I don't even know if its possible. I would think that iWeb would do it automatically.
Also, how do I change my feed? I originally just used the feed iWeb created:
    http://www.leilajones.com/jonescast/...esCast/rss.xml
But then set up a feedburner feed - which I now submit when I submit anywhere new.
    http://feeds.feedburner.com/jonescast
But how do I change the rss feed on my website with iWeb... I love the simplicity of it, but it's so limiting...
Also, how do I change the feed in iTunes to the Feedburner feed?
    Thanks for your help,

  • I have made with iweb a website on my macbook, now i want to change it, through my imac, how can I get in the program , which is on the mac book. On both computer I have Lion

i have made with iweb a website on my macbook, now i want to change it, through my imac, how can I get in the program , which is on the mac book. On both computer I have Lion

You need to transfer your domain.sites file from your MacBook to your iMac.  This is the file where iWeb stores all info and can be found under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
Transfer this file from your MacBook to the same place on your iMac and double click the domain.sites file and iWeb will open it on your iMac and you can update your site from there too.

  • How many website can I create with iWeb?

How many different webpages can I create with iWeb? I just created a site to show friends a slide show from a recent trip, but I need to create another webpage that will have video on it. It would be a totally different subject matter. I do have a .MAC account and not sure if I need to do anything with that so I can have more webpages.
I guess what I am saying is that I am going to need different URL's for the webpages I am going to need to create and want to know how many you can have or create using iWeb.

You can have multiple websites, each with multiple pages depending on the need. To make managing multiple sites easier, take a look at iWebSites. The limiting factor, as was pointed out, is the available space on your iDisk. I use iWebSites to manage multiple sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.

  • How I do to open a website created with iWeb in other computer

    Hi,

Now I want to edit my web using iWeb, but I can´t find the way to open the files to modify and actualize my web, etc...
Does anyone know how to do this? can iWeb open and edit a web site created by itself?

Felix ~ No, only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but *there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb*. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
If you don't have a backup of your Domain file (e.g. via Time Machine), paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • How to recover a page created with iweb

I have created a personal website with iweb on my laptop. The hard drive of my macbook died and i lost all datas. My webpage is published on the net but i do not know how to access it, modify it or even delete it! help please :-)

The file you need to have from your old hard drive  is titled Domain.sites and would have been kept in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on that hard drive.
If you have a backup of that file somewhere get it and put it in the Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder on the new hard drive, replacing the domain file that's there, and open with iWeb.  That will get your website back in iWeb.
If you do not have a backup of that file you will have to rebuild your website from scratch because iWeb can't import or read published html files.  It can only create them.
If you have to rebuild from scratch Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the new site.
