How do I go from 10.6.8 to lion? :)
Hey guys, I would REALLY love help with this. Last time I asked a question no one answered after 2 days. Hopefully this can get answered neatly and fast
my question is as simple as it can get:
Is it possible to go from 10.6.8 to lion? I do not wish to operate mavericks as it is just not my taste. If there is a way to go straight from 10.6.8 to lion then please let me know! thanks
What exact MBP do you have and what was the original OSX?
If it was Lion you can reinstall it using these instructions:

If it was Snow Leopard, the it suggests that there is a problem with your App store account. I cannot assist you in that case. You would have to contact Apple customer relations and sort it out with them.

How to stop files from being locked in Mountain Lion?
In the last week, I have found several of the files that I have generated or downloaded have become locked. Since Apple has eliminated the Auto locking feature that use to be in Time Machine. The files include PDFs, PHGs, TXTs, etc. How do I stop files from being locked? How do I unlock the ones that are locked? I can not emtpy my Trash.
When I went to "Get Info" on one of the locked files [a TXT file] per your steps, I noticed that the there was a Locked box checked. I unchecked that box and was then able to remove the files from Trash without any further action.
Do you know why it got locked in the first place since Mountain Lion does not automatically lock files as the older OS X version did? Do you know how to prevent it from happening again?

After realizing that my Mac Mail program (3.6) won't work with iCloud, I'm realizing I need to upgrade my ancient OS. I want to move from 10.5.8 to Lion. But I can't find a way to download OSX 7 from the App Store. That's because since I'm on such an old OS, I can't run the App Store. How can I download and install Lion?
Go through Mac OS X 10.6.6 to 10.6.8 or purchase the Mac OS X 10.7 USB thumbdrive and install it onto a blank partition.

I've found similar questions but it seems the options have changed since they were answered. I've tried following links for example and get "page not found" errors in the apple store... I presume Snow Leopard is no longer being sold online?
I admit it. I'm a lifelong PC user (this is my first-ever Mac) and my approach to upgrades thus tends to be "if it ain't broke, don't mess with it, you might have to downgrade later and you'll wish you never did this!" Anyway.... I am now running into all kinds of things that absolutely require at least 10.6 to run and I believe Apple is not even supporting Leopard anymore.

The people at the Apple Store told me to wait on an upgrade to Snow Leopard because Lion was coming out soon. However, without Snow Leopard, I can not get the App Store.
I have OSX 10.58 and a processor big enough to support Lion.So you need to upgrade to Snow Leoapard first so you can access the Mac App Store in order to download Lion.

How to import mailboxes from Time Machine to new Mac
I had Time Machine backing up our old G5. We got a Mac Pro back in November and I never was able to import the mail from the G5 to the Mac Pro so I left it alone and just kept using mail on the old G5. Well, the G5 took a dump last monday. I currently have the Time Machine backup for that computer connected to our Mac Pro (but not using it as backup yet). So, the mail from the G5 should be on the Time Machine backup right? If so, can I import it into Mail on the Mac Pro?
I also pulled one of the hard drives from the G5 and have it in the Mac Pro in the 2nd bay just to make sure that HD wasn't dead. It works fine and I tried importing the .mbox files from that drive but it appears that all the mail on that particular drive are from like 2006. So, again, I need to find out how to import mail from the Time Machine drive. Any thoughts?

Edit: Launching Mail and holding Option right afterwards does nothing. Holding down option and then launching Mail does nothing.
Oooooh.... launching time machine while holding down option......
Edit again.... I don't have a Time Machine menu because that disk is not currently set up as time machine for the Mac Pro yet. I don't want to use it as a backup for this computer yet. I just want to be able to pull some of the backed up contents from it until I'm set. -

To take photos from iPhoto and put them onto a folder on Desktop, first create a folder on Desktop. Right-click on Desktop and create a new folder.
Then, open iPhoto, and you have two ways to export photos:
1. Select the photos you want to copy to Desktop with Command key (or go to Edit menu > Select All, if you want to copy all photos), and then, drag them to the folder on Desktop.
2. Select the photos you want to copy to Desktop with Command key, go to File menu > Export, and follow the steps.

i need to know how to extract text from a pdf file?
does anyone know what is the character encoding in pdf file, when i use an input stream to read the file it gives encrypted characters not the original text in the file.
is there any procedures i should do while reading a pdf file,
