How do I have StarOffice automatically open a Microsoft Office file
I do not have MS Office installed, only StarOffice 8. When opening an MS Office document, I would like the appropriate StarOffice application to open the file automatically.
When you install SO, you can select, which MSO-docus will be opened by SO.
Or, start the SO-installer, select 'change program'. Further you willsee the option to select MSO-docus.
May be, that the terms are not right. I have SO German.

I am been doing some searching but don't seem to be able to find an answer to what must be a very simple setting I am missing somewhere.
We have an intranet site with links to a number of docx and xlsx files, I need to tell Safari to automatically open those files rather than simply placing them in the download folder. The only information I could find mentioned creating a file called "com.apple.DownloadAssessment.plist", I found an example of that file that was supposed to do what I am looking for but as far as I can tell the version of Safari I am running (5.1.9) is ignoring this file (placed in my user's preference folder in the Library).
It is frustrating to not be able to figure this out, typically I have no problem finding very basic settings such as these but this has me lost. In Firefox it is trivial and it must be in Safari too. Can anyone help tell me what I need to do so that Safari will automatically open newer MS Office files?

What kind of TIFFs? Are they multi-layered, for instance? ACR will not open layered files.

Closing the window does not quit the application. It's not Windows. Apps have multiple document windows. Each window is not its own app. So, if all you were doing was closing the document window, the App was still open.
Kies may have a launchagent set up to start it up when you log in. You'd have to check with Samsung to find out how to disable it. I don't know anything about it, but if you can't solve the dilemma, I can likely lead you to the places to look for the file that causes it to startup. -

With Safari open use the Command + T keyboard shortcut to open a new tab.

Sorry I'm taking to along, but I checked a few things using ACR 8.6
Saved a png as an 8 bit tiff, then to 16 bit. Changed the background layer into a floating layer, all opened in ACR.
It was when I added an adjustment layer, that it no longer opened in ACR.
Now what can I recommend? If you have Lightroom, you can Import and work on your layered tiffs that way. I hope this is a viable alternative for you, because I think ACR does have a problem with layered tiffs and I don't really know of any workaround, but you are free to explore.

sorry my english is mess....I do not think anything much has changed with the Firefox system restore files and how they are handled so it may be possible to keep these and use them after an upgrade in a new version of Firefox.

I migrated my software/documents from another laptop so don't have the disk to reinstall. Please help! Can't open any Microsoft Office software, like Word (for 2008), and stuck in a loop?
Whenever I select Word Microsoft Setup Assistant appears, asks for feedback, then after selecting okay (both on saying yes or no to feedback) goes on to a registration page. When I click on this it says I've already registered so I just click okay, and then move on to a update page. After this, if I click on Word, the process repeats itself.
As I said, I don't have the disk to reinstall, and can't find the Office Settings to delete as many pages have suggested I should try. Safe Boot restarting also hasn't worked... Really stuck and need Word very soon for work.
If you can help, that would be great, and feel free to ask any questions about the situation as I'm not an expert here.

JackFirst, export your contact from iCloud.com and save them on your computer in a safe spot some where (like you desktop). Use this to help you do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3606
Next, on both of your devices, go to Settings > iCloud and turn on contacts and select Merge. Then turn off contacts and select 'Delete form my [device]' when prompted.
Now go back to iCloud.com and select a contact (yes they will all be messed up again) and select Command+A on a Mac or Control+A on a PC to select all of the contacts. Tap the delete key on your keyboard (or right click /control click a contact and select delete).
You iPhone, iPad and iCloud.com should not be empty for contacts.
Go back to Settings > iCloud on both devices and turn on contacts again (you should not see merge this time).
Next, go back to iCloud.com and import your contacts (those exported .vcards). You can either drag and drop them into the empty contacts list in your web browser, or you can use the gear icon to import.
You cleaned up contacts should import correctly into iCloud.com and sync to both of your devices.

I have DreamWeaver CS5 running on a Mac. Whenever I double-click to open a DreamWeaver compatible file (such as an HTML file), if DW is not already open, DW launches but does not load the file. Once DW is launced, I can double-click the file and it will load. How do I configure DW to open and load a file together?

OS X: 10.7.4 (11E53)HTML files are normally configured to open in a browser. The default on a Mac is to open the file in Safari.
You can right-click the filename in the Mac Finder, and select Open With > Dreamweaver CS5 from the context menu.
Alternatively, select an HTML file in Mac Finder, and press Cmd+I to open the Info panel. In the Open With section, select Dreamweaver CS5 as the default program, and click the Change All button. -

I am not allowed to drop files on that iWeb page directly. PriyaSpecial > Hypertext > Command "open document" will do its best to open the target document inside FrameMaker, which may not be much help; Special > Hypertext > Command "message …" will use the application you specify. The user guide for 7.0 says this about absolute links, and I don't think anything has changed since:
