How do I highlight a pdf document?

I have downloaded a pdf file from the internet to my files.  I want to share it with a friend; but I want to highlight parts of the text first.  I have read the acrobat article which says highlighting can be done with adobe reader.  Also, highlighting capability shows up on the toolbar available for my use.  But my attempts to apply the tool have failed.  How do I do it?

Today, I had a chat session with Apple Support.  It might help you to know they were not able to solve my problem either.  But what I did learn is that the reason I am having so much difficulty with the document is because it was scanned from a journal and converted to a pdf.  BTW, I told them that I had learned a lot from you, not the least of which was that "Preview" is a software program, not just a snapshot of something I was doing elsewhere, which I was not aware of prior to your response.  I also learned what I had already suspected, i.e., that Preview is not sophisticated enough for accomplishing what I was trying to do.
Thank God, the person I want to share it with doesn't even know I'm going to send it.  The person is a black PhD who opined in a presentation to a women's group that women are not minorities because they comprise 51% of the population.  Since it attempts to educate him about why women are, in fact, minorities, and because it is contrary to conclusions he has already reached, I want to highlight it so that he will be more likely to read the salient points.  Another reason is because he is a key figure in a State political organization which has repeatedly caused a proposed amendment to the by-laws of the organization, about the definition of "minorites", to be tabled!  Let me know if you have enough interest in the issue for me to send you a link to the article. (BTW, it is only 1.4 MB, so not lengthy.)
I thought you might be interested in knowing not only how helpful you have been to me, but also why I was not willing to let it go!
Now I am going to go to an Adobe forum and try to find out if they know of a work-around to do what I am attempting to do.  At this point, I am pursuing the issue as much to learn about the technology as to get the document hightlighted.  I will also go to the app store to search for an app that might address the issue of scanned documents converted to pdf documents.
Thank you for your patience and your help!

  • How do I highlight a PDF document using Adobe Reader 8?

I frequently need to highlight text in PDF documents, such as user manuals, just for my own use.  When I looked up "highlighting text" in the Knowledge Base, I found the following statement:  "Commenting tools are available only in PDFs that have commenting enabled. PDFs in a review workflow typically include commenting rights."   Is this the reason why I have not been able to find the Highlight Text tool option in any of the documents?  Is there a workaround for this issue?

Thank you for your suggestion to search in Google.  I found a few truly free, not just free trial offers, PDF editors, which I will need to test to find the one that will work best for my purpose.  Thanks, again.

  • How can I highlight Government PDF documents?

The US government publishes Federal Register notices in pdf format.  Here is an example of one http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2011-07-11/pdf/2011-17190.pdf.  I would like to add comments, highlight text, and maybe even insert and delete pages.  However, the government recently added some sort of security feature that prevents this from happening.  Can somebody explain what type of security setting this document has, and can it be deleted.  It appears to be some sort of certification of a digital signature.

I find it unlikely that if you have a Federal Register announcement, and print it on your personal hard drive as a PDF, and highlight some sentences, so you can personally find the sentences again later - that the federal government would go after you ("in hot water.")   Can you actually imagine someone in front of a federal judge and facing fines or prison because he did this?  It would be another thing to alter and fake the document and give it to people - saying that "X" is legal when the original regulation said "X" is illegal - but that is not remotely what Kent12317 is talking about.

  • How do i save a PDF document sent to me via email to Pages on my IPad

Hey All,  I have a document that i want on my IPad.  How do i save a PDF document sent to me via email to Pages on my IPad?

You can't. You can export Pages files as PDF documents but you cannot save a PDF into Pages. It does not support that feature.
There are tons of PDF apps in the App Store aside from iBooks. Adobe Reader makes a pretty decent PDF app that will store, annotate, rename, highlight, use form fields, sign pdf's, and organize in folders. It is free as well. There are other apps, you just have to Serach for them.

Thanks again for the detailed instructions Srini!
    And I really hate to be a pest . . . but . . .
Using your example and not modifying it, I get the e-mail form filled out correctly and the pdf attached, however, I'm not prompted to sign it.
    Any more clues?

There is no such thing. You will have to convert your PDF to an image or extract the text using Acrobat's export features.

I didn't know but googling for "pdf to word mac" gave a lot of hits for software solutions. I didn't have time to read them but I think that is you best start.
I also searched Microsoft's Office:Mac site but did not look at their Office:Mac forum. You may get a faster answer there:

How do you highlight text in document in Pages

but Pages is NOT a 3rd party app.  it's an application that's programmed by apple.  it's supposed to act something like Word in MS office, but that is not at all true.
choices for editing text, highlighting, et al., like what you find in MS Office Word, should be immediately available whenever you are inside of a Pages document, but that is not the case.
don't you wish that when you buy an apple app for apple/macs that is supposed to be like a windows something or another that it really is?

How do I duplicate a pdf document in the cloud?

    Hi marting82944462,
As mentioned above by Bernd Alheit you will have to download the file on the local disc from the cloud & then upload it again, however you will have to rename the file as the architecture does not support two or more files with a similar name.
In case if you still have any query, please let us know. We will be more than happy to help you.

    Hello,
I'm not a specialist, but I think that you could configure these information in the /Apache/Apache/conf/httpd.conf file
    # Aliases: Add here as many aliases as you need (with no limit). The format is
    # Alias fakename realname
    <IfModule mod_alias.c>
        # Note that if you include a trailing / on fakename then the server will
        # require it to be present in the URL.  So "/icons" isn't aliased in this
        # example, only "/icons/"..
        Alias /icons/ "/appli/9IAS/Apache/Apache/icons/"
        Alias /jservdocs/ "/appli/9IAS/Apache/Jserv/docs/"
        Alias /javacachedocs/ "/appli/9IAS/javacache/javadoc/"
