For Reader/Acrobat XI, go to "Comment> Annotations" and choose Highlight text or Underline options (screenshot of icons shown below):

How to add note to underlined text for pdf within Preview

Sometimes I can right-click in underlined or highlighted text in Preview and get an option "add note" so that there's a text box without an balloon icon (like the one you get by pressing control+N). But it is so tricky that I have to try several times before the option appears. Is there any easy way to do it?

Go to View menu >Show annotations toolbar > click on the text box at the bottom and you should get a type cursor when you click on the area outside or within the document or photo. Then type. Does this not happen consistently?

How do I highlight non-contiguous text on pages?

I've tried on pages using the command key, the alt key, the control key. None of them wil let me highlight texts from different parts of a document at the sametime. Does anyone know how to do this?

It always helps to say what version of the software you are using, so we don't have to guess.
It sounds like you are using Pages 5 because Apple removed this along with about 100 other features.
Use Pages '09 if you have it.

Can I move highlighted text to the comments but not underlined text?

So I just upgraded to Acrobat from Reader yesterday so I could take notes on books for school. I found out how to export the comments from a PDF to a new document using a JS, and have enjoyed using the following:

What I'm curious about is if there is a way around having both highlighted and underlined text go instantly to comments. If it's possible to get just one or the other to automatically enter the comments that might save me a ton of time manually copying and making decisions like "is this really worth the extra size of the output file." Those kinds of decisions really slow down my reading process. Rigth now I've been exporting pages of stuff, and even though I can search what I export it's going to become unmanageable.
The only thing I can think is to only copy things that I specifically wanted exported to the comments, and to just do this manually so I don't end up with too much highlighted/underlined text.
(Also, and this one isn't that important...is there a way to save the JS I have been using to all the PDFs that I have? Right now I have just been copy pasting it to each PDF that I make.)

The forums have mangled the script (which looks strangely familiar ) but if you want to only list annotations with a specific type, add a new line in between these two:

and add another closing brace at the end of this one

'type' has several defined strings, all documented in the SDK. You'd be using "Highlight" or "Underline" to filter.
If you want to run the script repeatedly, you can put it into an Action (using the 'run a javaScript' step). Bear in mind that you can't run it against several files at the same time, as the reports aren't saved, so set the Action's properties to apply only to the currently-open document.

How to get the Underlined text in JTextPane

I have a JtextPane with text say "i _like java_ it is a _good language_".
in the above text i have made "like java" and "good language" underlined. And i have added a mouse listener to this JTextpane. the whole idea is to create a hyperlink so that when the user clicks anywhere on "like java" then i want to get the complete text("like java") where i clicked and using this text i want to do some operation. How can i get the underlined text?

How to change highlight color of PDF texts to the standard golden yellow on Preview app?

I use the Preview app to read my PDF books. I also read these same books on my iPad. When I read my books, I like to highlight the text. I'm used to highlight my text with the standard golden yellow on my iPad. When I use Preview, the only choice of yellow color I've found is a somewhat orange yellow that's called "yellow". Besides that, I see only 5 highlight options. Anyway, I'd like to highlight my text on Preview with the standard golden yellow, the same color that is available in almost all PDF editing apps. Anyway, how can I highlight my pdf texts with the standard golden yellow on the Mac Preview app?!

When I want to add items to the bookmarks toolbar, for example: -Zoom toolbar. The zoom Toolbar appears on the bookmarks toolbar, but it shows the favicons aswell the underlined text. I only want the favicons. How to do this, please help!!

If you only want the favicons and not the names of the bookmarks on the bookmarks toolbar, you can do that with the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4072/ Smart Bookmarks Bar] add-on.

How to change the color of text but only when that text is highlighted

I am NOT asking how to change the highlight color OR how to change the text color generally, but rather, how to change the text color as it shows onscreen while it is highlighted. Here's where I'm going:
Text is ordinarily black (assume) such as when the Finder is open or when viewing a list of all emails in an inbox.
Let's say I change the highlight color systemwide, in prefs > appearance > highlight color, to a custom color ("other") of black (for example).
In certain programs (mail, billings, iBank, addressbook, even the Finder), when I highlight a line of something, (like when I one-click on an email or a file name just to select it but not open it), the line will highlight in black, but the text of that line will automatically change to white so it can be seen.
However, when I highlight actual text (click and drag or double click), such as when editing a document in Pages and selecting a word, line, paragraph, editing an email, etc., the highlight is black, and the text remains black also, which means it cannot be seen (black on black).
So, how do I change it so that when I highlight the actual text the text color changes to white, then when it is de-selected, it goes back to black.
I'm not afraid to do a little terminal/command line, but only if it’s a little. Hope this gives enough detail.

You can use span HTML tag.
For example, if your label is "Product Name", and you want it to appear in red, you can type this:

but Pages is NOT a 3rd party app. it's an application that's programmed by apple. it's supposed to act something like Word in MS office, but that is not at all true.
choices for editing text, highlighting, et al., like what you find in MS Office Word, should be immediately available whenever you are inside of a Pages document, but that is not the case.
don't you wish that when you buy an apple app for apple/macs that is supposed to be like a windows something or another that it really is?
