How do I highlight text in adobe reader PDF files?

Hi, I am Samyak Veera From US.
By highlight I mean changing the colour of the selected text, like the function in word. Or do I have to paste the whole article into word to highlight it? How it possible.

Highlighting and changing the text color is not the same thing!
Adobe Reader can highlight text by using the Highlight tool. This can only be done one real text, not "text" on a scanned image.
To change the text color you will need Acrobat.

Thanks. The PDF file was made from a web site article and I guess this is the same as scanned as I cannot highlight. The cursor changes but cannot highlight what I want.
I was able to add text and I did this in Red and will ask the VA to read under the sections marked in Red.

How do I modify an Adobe Reader pdf file?

But I can not figure out how to select the fields and modify the pdf, so that I can save and print.

I am using Adobe 8 Professional and working on Windows XP. I have been facing an issue lately with opening files in a dual-monitor environment. All my Adobe Reader (PDF) files are opening only in the secondary monitor by default. There are times when I work only in one monitor and when I open a PDF file and want to have a look at it, I have to connect another monitor to view that file, since this file is open in the secondary monitor. It is very disappointing with such instances happening with Adobe (a leading organization). Can you please help so that the Adobe Reader files open in the primary monitor by default?

What is your operating system? What exactly do you mean "failure to read"; do you get an error message?

Open comment pop-ups for highlighted text (on Adobe Reader for Android)

On my computer, I use the software Docear which allows to import highlighted text and comments from pdf documents. This function in Docear only works, if the reader copies highlighted text into the comment fields at the moment of highlighting. When using a reader on a PC, the settngs can be adjusted in order that this works. (Preferences>Commenting>Automatically open comment pop-ups for comments other than notes).
It would be very practical for me to do this on my tablet (Android). However, as far as I know, this is not possible in the Adobe Reader for Android. Or is there any possibility to do this? If not,would it be possible to include this on a wishlist?

None of the free Adobe Reader products provide the capability of converting image files (e.g. jpeg, gif, png) to PDF.
You can either use
Acrobat XI Pro or Standard - Scan to PDF
Adobe PDF Pack (formerly known as CreatePDF): online subscription service - JPEG to PDF Converter
You may find some free non-Adobe apps or online services. But the quality of PDF output may vary.
Unless you use OCR (Optical Character Recognition), the scanned image of text will not be recognized as real text. So you will not be able to highlight text, for example.

Don't know that you can with Reader. You should ask in the Reader forum that is linked at the top of this forum. In Acrobat it is easy, but Reader does not have the editing capabilities of Acrobat and it is probably not directly possible.

It sounds like you have a scanned PDF document. Because a scanned PDF document contains images of text (not real text), you will not be able to select text or highlight it. You can still add Freehand drawing and/or sticky notes to a scanned PDF document.
To recognize text in a scanned PDF document, you need to run special Text Recognition software. Adobe Acrobat (a paid product) offers the capability, where as free Adobe Reader products do not.

i've a problem with the highlighting tool, it can only highlight one word at a time, it isn't possible for me to drag and highlight. i've tried updating but to no avail. in addition, i can't use the snapshoot tool either. basically any function that requires a click-and-drag motion is disabled. i'd greatly appreciate it if a kind soul may help me with this issue please!! thank you very much!

PDF files have to be specially enabled for you to save the contents. It appears the old version of these files had this capability, but the new version does not. Without Acrobat you will be unable to save the files. If these are truly government files, you can try going to the government's website and see if you can download a copy that will allow you to save the form field data.

Using MS access 9.0.2720 visual basic proceedure to call Adobe reader to open a specific flle from a folder on my c drive.
useing the shell command , shellexecute is not available in the version I'm using.
