How do I hook up my old eMac to my wireless?

I bought a new iMac and router but would like to hook up my old OS X 10.3.9 to the wireless as well.  Any ideas how to do this?

You need the original Airport card or the Airport Extreme card, depending on which model eMac you have.

  • How do i hook up my Time Capsule to the wireless internet that already exists in my house?

I have a wireless router on the other side of my house. i think i need to put my Time Capsule in "repeater mode" but i have no idea how to do that or even if that is correct.

The Time Capsule can not "repeat" or "extend" the wireless signal unless you have another Apple router providing the wireless network.
    Is that the case?
If not, you need to connect the Time Capsule just as the Setup Guide illustrates....with a wired Ethernet connection from one of the LAN <-> ports on your modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.
Then, configure the Time Capsule to "create" a wireless network using the same wireless network name, same wireless security settings and same wireless password that your modem/router is using.
As a final step, make sure that the Time Capsule is configured to operate in Bridge Mode, as that is the correct setting for this type of setup.

  • How to set up internet connection between MacBook Pro and an old eMac?

I got an old eMac without wifi and a MacBook Pro. I'd like to share the network connection via ethernet cable to my eMac, but I can't get it work.
I'd like to use it with screenrecycler and it needs a network connection.
How to do it? How to set up the connection between the client and the host? Could somebedy give me a step by step guide?
    Thank you very much

    Hello,
First, are you using Wifi for Internet on the MBP?
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list, Wifi on the MBP.
In Shating on both, enable File Sharing, Screen Sharing, & Web Sharing on both.
Then with the Ethernet cable between the two, find the IPs of both, or use Finder>Go>Connect to Server>Browse... see what shows up.

  • How can i hook my old ipod to my new lap top without loosing my music

how can I hook up my iPod touch to my new laptop without loosing my music files

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the device for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How do I import emails from my old eMac to iMac G5

I have recently upgraded to an iMac G5. I need to copy all my old emails (3 years worth) from my old eMac to the new computer. What options do I have? I don't want to copy anything else (applications or documents). I use Apple's Mail on both computers. Thanks.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    You're welcome.
If the eMac supports being connected to another Mac via Firewire Target Disk mode (which I believe it does), you can connect both Macs this way for the import and for manually transferring any and all data from the eMac.

I have an old emac i want to wipe out the info on it so I can donate it

With an install CD, you boot from the CD by holding down the C key at startup.  Then go to "drive setup" and format the drive, choosing the option to zero data once.

    You created a new AppleID?
Why not simply update your old AppleID so you have only one iTunes account?

Hi, no eMacs had G3s, only G4s. Is it maybe an iMac G3?

  • How do I get to the old iTunes screen...

How do I get to the old iTunes screen that used to pop up when I plug my IP into my MBA?  I used to get a screen that showed whatever device I had hooked up.
This morning I got a message that there is an IP update, but that I have paid data on my IP that is not on my computer, do I want to install the update.
And the answer is no, not until I get whatever it is transferred to my computer.  There used to be a pulldown menu asking "do you want to transfer programs from your device to iTunes?"  Not there anymore or at least that I can find.
I suspect this problem has something to do with the cloud and automatic syncing between devices..

Kind of solved my own problem by updating the IP wirelessly (6.1.4).  Then in plugging the IP into my MBA, I was able to get to the pull down menu that allows transfer of programs and apps to my MBA.
While I can see the advantage of being able to update the IP wirelessly, I much prefered the old iTunes interface that among other things, made it easy to "eject" the IP from being wired up to my MBA.

  • I have an old emac I want to use and have forgotten the master password. Is there anyway to reset it?

How to reset master password for an OLD emac.

Thanks. I wish I had that info earlier. Unfortunately I got a set of OS emac installation disks and tried to install and start over  which basically erased everything. There were 16 disks and when I got to disk twelve it "failed" and asked to try again. I went through the whole process again and same message again.
Now I am stuck with the installer which wants me to install disc 2 to continue installation. It won't let me do anything else.
I know there must be a way to erase and start over but I'm not sure where to start.  Any ideas?

  • Upgrading my old emac

Hi, I have a rather old emac which I bought during 2004. The spec is:
    Proc: 1ghz powerpc G4
    Mem: 1gb SDRAM
    OS: 10.5.8
    HD: approx 80gb
This old mac does not have wireless facility and, therefore, is not connected to the internet.
I am wanting to completely reinstall the system and it won't now recognise the disks that were supplied.
I did upgrade the OS but am unable to find any disks.
What I want to do and this is what I am asking all you lovely people is:
How can I reinstall the system
What's the best OS that I should use (I am hoping to use this for design work - Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign eventually)
What's the most economical way to get this old thing wirelessly connected to my broadband?
I am extremely short of cash at the moment so looking to do this as moneysaving as possible.
On the back of this I am hoping to upgrade the OS of my lovely faithful macbook from 10.5.8 to hopefully lion.
Any ideas would be gratefully taken on board!
    Kind regards
    Terri

Although it is possible to run 10.5 on a G4, from personal experience i'd say it's better to stay on 10.4 for speed, especially with those specs. Take a look at the applications (and their version) that you intend to run on the machine for compatibility when deciding which of these systems to install, as there are quite alot of apps that left 10.4 support behind.
What versions are the install disks that you have at hand? If they are machine specific and not booting there are other ways to use them.
The most economical way to get wireless working is to find a compatible USB WiFi dongle, there are more and more these days that officially support OS X, but you need to double check it supports the system version you are installing. Also it's better to get one that can plug n' play (so that it uses Apple's own kexts) 3rd party kexts introduce the possibility for system instability, especially for hardware. Dongles with a broadcom chipset used to be the most compatible in 10.4 but google is your fiend here when deciding what to buy.

  • Old eMac Help? No OS 9

Thanks to ANYONE taking the time to answer this!
I have an OLD eMac Here are the specs:
eMac Model NO: A1002 EMC No.:1955
    100V-120VAC, 3.5A, 50-60Hz
    Mac OS X Version 10.3 Processor 1GHz PowerPC G4 Memory: 384MB
    Serial Number: G8*******PPA
    32-Bit Color
    Speed: 400MB/Sec
I would like this old computer to be used by young children in a toy room - no internet just games. However, I went to install a few old cheap games that are compatible but require "classic os 9" to run.
There is NO "folder" or something for this. I assume the computer just doesn't have classic option. What can I do about this?
I am not experienced with mac, please talk to me like I am a moron. Thanks so much for your time in advance. I have 4 very anxious preschoolers! PS - it will not update as it's so old.
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

I think I might be able to help you. I too have an old eMac which I spent many years trying to figure out how to get classic OS 9 on it, and finally I figured it out. By the way, I've found Classic will work with most older games.
I just have a few questions:
1 When you double-click on an old game to install it, what happens? Does a message pop up?
2 Do you have any of the old apple-CDs that came with the computer?
3 What version is the computer? You can see this by clicking the apple symbol at the top left, then click "about this mac".
This information will tell whether or not this computer has hope for the older OS 9 games.

  • Cannot Login itunes Music Store to deactivate old Emac

I had forgotten to deactivate itunes on my old Emac running 10.3.9 fully updated before doing an erase and install. I thought that I could still do this but now when I try to login to the itunes store on the emac it tells me that it cannot connect to the itunes store, check my network connection. I know that I have a good connection because I am able to surf the internet no problem. The itunes version is 4.01 I think. Is it now not possible to login to the itunes store from this computer because of the old software?

Incase anyone else is looking for the fix for this problem here is how I resolved it. I realized the itunes was not connecting to the itunes store. The internet was working fine and the firewall was not the problem so I decided to see if a newer version of itunes was the fix as itunes 4 is what was on this computer. I found out that itunes 7.7 would work on Panther 10.3.9 and found a download link through the macfixit forums. After downloading and installing 7.7 I was then able to connect to the itunes store and deauthorize the computer.
