Run optical/Toslink from your MBP's audio out port to your receiver, then connect the sub to your receiver.

• How can I run a 27" Apple Cinema Display and another monitor from my MacBook Pro?

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a brand new 15" MacBook Pro to replace my old one. I was told when ordering it that I would be able to hook up two external monitors to it using the Matrox DualHead2Go hardware. So, I also bought a 27" Cinema Display (non-Thunderbolt since it wouldn't work with the DH2Go). However, when I contacted Matrox they said their products don't support screens as large as the 27" ACD.
Bummer!
So, my question is: does anyone know how I can hookup a 27" Apple Cinema Display at 2560x1440 and a Acer 22" monitor at 1685x1050 (or, anything less really) to my new MacBook Pro?
I've looked around and haven't been able to find a good answer.
Thanks for your help!

Will something like this work? A USB to VGA adapter? Can I use this at the same time that I have a Cinema Display plugged into the Mini-DVI port and will they both work at the same time? Anyone know?

• Need help hooking up a keyboard!

I have a korg triton and i just bought a macbook, does anyone know how i can hookup my keyboard to my laptop so i can record what im playing. This is all new to me so im not sure what i need?

You'll need a MIDI interface if you want to do that type of thing or, you can use an audio interface to play "live" into your recording software.

• Outboard monitor for laptop G4

I have a really old Ibook laptop. It doesn't even have a video output. How can I hookup an outboard monitor? Can I use some sort of a firewire or USB adapter? is any add-on software necessary? Please advise.

If your computer is a white iBook G4 (or an iBook G3) it would have
a mini-VGA port and that requires an adapter in order to attach an
external VGA display's plug, so it can work in the mini-VGA port.
Earlier, some had a 'composite' or 'VGA' type of port, this evolved.
• How to Identify an iBook model:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1772
If the computer is an older non-white (colors) G3 iBook, it may have
an AV port for composite video-out to a TV; this may have a mini-
port, unique in the FireWire equipped G3 (colors) and later, where it
was possible for audio and video to be shared externally. With the
correct adapter, and the presence of a mini-port for video VGA out,
you may be able to connect some kind of external display.

Since this feature evolved and the technologies changed over time,
to identify more precisely what model you have, is very important.

• Jdev3.1/ Validator problem or bug???

Hi,
On one of the entity attributes, i have added a listValidator. this validates against a list of values from a select statement. The problem is that while testing the appl module, once i enter a correct value in the concerned field and tab out. now if i want to go to that field and make it blank, the validation still fires and fails. I want the user to be able to enter a blank value but also want to make sure that if the value is not blank, it is correct.
is there any way of doing it in jdeveloper or will i have to write my own class for such a small thing.
Aparna.

This is actually quite simple once you know how.
All you need to do is write a method:
public boolean validate<Column>( String nv )
I had the liberty of doing this on one
of my entity objects - Customer -
on the attribute name WebSite, so I wrote:
public boolean validateWebSite(String nv) {
//TODO: Add custom implementation.
boolean bValid =
( nv == null ) | |
( nv.trim().length() == 0 )
( nv.compareTo( "Sample1" ) == 0 )
( nv.compareTo( "Sample2" ) == 0 )
( nv.compareTo( "Sample3" ) == 0 )
( nv.compareTo( "Sample4" ) == 0 )
( nv.compareTo( "SampleN" ) == 0 )
return bValid;
And then I went into the Entity Editor
-Right click on Entity and select Edit ...
Click on the Validation tab to go there
Select attribute of choice <WebSite>
Press the Add... button to add a rule to this attribute - Up opens the next dialog.
In the top list of - Rules: - Select MethodValidator
Given a correctly defined method
name and signature, then the method name would appear in the list of candidate methods below and then select it and press OK to accept this method as your validator.
If it does not appear, edit the code so it is correct & compiles.
I did just such a test and what happend
was I could enter Sample1, Sample2, Blank
but nothing else - as I had designed it.
So, it may seem like alot, but writing
one boolean validation method is not alot
of work given how easy the hookup of logic
to the framework happens.
I hope this helps,
-John

• TC used as backup only.

How would I hookup my TC to be used as a backup only? I don't need it to be my wireless product. Is there a special setting I need to use?
I am sure this has been asked prior however I couldn't find it in search.

Welcome to the discussions, stevebates2!
Probably the simplest and best way to hookup the Time Capsule would be to connect it using an ethernet cable from one of the LAN ports on your current router. I'm assuming that that you have a router with some available ports. Macs communicating with your router either by wireless or ethernet would be able to backup to the Time Capsule
The alternate option would be to configure your Time Capsule to "join" your current wireless network. Backups would occur over the wireless network.

How do you hookup the Ipad2 to the computer?

You should be able to connect it to your computer with the same cable as you use for charging, and the iPad should appear on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC)

• Only one HDMI port- how to hookup Apple TV?

I have my Comcast box plugged into the only HDMI slot on my Panasonic TV. How do I hook up my Apple TV box?

How do I hook up my Apple TV box?
You could invest in an HDMI switcher. I used the Rocketfish model from Best Buy with my plasma HDTV before finally updating my AV receiver. It has auto-switching (which works better than my old auto-component switcher) but also comes with a remote control for those who prefer manual control.

• So I am trying to hook up a wifi antenna and router to pull a signal in for better hookup and when I turned on asus I must have answered a question wrong on setup so how can I change stuff so I can get iPad and router to work.

So I am trying to hook up a tired net antenna to an asus wifi router so my iPad can have a stronger signal, but when I turned on asus it went to auto window on iPad and I think I must have answered a question wrong. I can not hook up to Internet, can anyone tell me how to configure, or delete asus and start all over.

Have you tried erasing your network settings under settings/general/reset?

• How to hookup TV monitor to DV camcorder for firewire FCP output?

I've read Ken Stone's article on using a firewire output to my camcorder which then plugs into a TV monitor. Will this really work with Motion/FCP?
I believe the caveat is that the project must match the camcorder settings.
Anyway, I'm trying to get video output direct to TV without having to buy a separate video card (I do have a Dazzle firewire unit also that might work also not sure).
I'm finding it to be more and more critical to see my work "live" on a TV monitor -- the burn to DVD, load DVD into player, watch on TV is becoming a big time consumer.
Is this how a cheap persons setup would work? Firewire --> Camcorder ---> TV
Thanks, Rob.

#8 External Monitor Viewing.
Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section
