How do I identify a font

Hello.
I need help in identifying a font.
We've paid for a logo and now the designer it out of business.
We'd like to change the color or the font, but the font is not selectable.
Yes, he gave us a logo we could not edit. Great, eh?
Given that we cannot select the font to identify it, how else can we identify the font?
Thanks.

It's standard practice to turn fonts to outlines in logos - it prevents unwanted and unpredictable font changes.
To identify the font, there are several sites you could try: two are
whatthefont      https://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
indentifont        www.identifont.com/
You can also post the logo here, (use the camera icon in the reply box) someone may recognize the font.

  • How to identify this font?

    I have to re-create two logos because the original psd file was lost by the owner. The one thing I need help with is identifying the font they used. I don't use a ton of fonts, so this isn't my strong point. Links to the two logos are below. It's the text in black I'm concerned with. At first I thought it was Arial, then I noticed the horizontal bar in the "t" extends farther to the right in the logo than it does when I type this in Arial in a text document. Suggestions?

    To me they look like different fonts for each logo...  Note the difference in the curvature of the lower case a for example.
    To me, TNLogo appears to be Verdana, and TMLogo appears to be Helvetica.

  • Identify Monospaced Fonts

    Hello sir, friends, madam,
    I want to identify System fonts which are monospaced. I then have to display the names of such fonts in combo box. I got the list of all system fonts installed on machine using the folloing code.
    java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.getAvailableFontFamilyNames() java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment.getAllFonts()
    Now I need to check which of them are monospaced. For this I tried doing the following Font.getAttributes(). This method returns a Map contains TextAttributes as key. So I used TextAttribute.FAMILY as a key to retrive the value from the map. But then I am getting other fonts as well, apart from monospaced fonts.
    Can anybody suggests whether I am on right track or can anyone provide some alternative to that I can reach the solution ?
    Waiting for your replies.
    Thanks and Regards
    Rohit.

    I've never heard of a good way to do this. There don't seem to be any relevant attributes or flags embedded in the fonts themselves, which seems strange, considering how important that property is. The only sure way that I can see would be to create a Font object for each installed font and compare the width of the letter 'i' to that of the the letter 'W' (or equivalents for whatever language you're targetting). You could cache the results, so you wouldn't have to do that every time the font dialog is displayed, but it's still pretty ugly.
    Here's a more hackish, but faster approach I found in the l2fprod commons project protected boolean isMonospaced(String fontFamily) {
        String lower = fontFamily.toLowerCase();
        return lower.indexOf("fixed") >= 0 || lower.indexOf("monospaced") >= 0
          || lower.indexOf("profont") >= 0 || lower.indexOf("console") >= 0
          || lower.indexOf("typewriter") >= 0;
      }The method can stand a lot of improvement (as written, it fails to spot these fonts from my system: "Andale Mono", "Bitstream Vera Sans Mono", "Courier", "Courier New", "DejaVu Sans Mono", "Monaco", and "Monospace 821"), and it would need to be updated every time a new monospaced font comes out, but it still seems like the less painful option to me.

  • How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the Bookmarks Library?

    How does one change the font size for folders and/or file lists in the '''Bookmarks''' Library?
    Since the upgrade to version 9.0.1 of Firefox, the Bookmarks feature changes are confusing me. They seem to be confusing themselves as well. The list of bookmarks has changed. The font size is so small that my aging eyes cannot read it without fogging the screen with my breath. Some folders are out of alphabetical order (where I know they were previously good), and some are missing altogether (folders to which I frequently add references).
    As for missing or deranged files or folders, was there something that I should have done or now need to do to recover those after the upgrade (or before)?
    With regard to font size,
    1. there is no “Edit Bookmarks” or like option to edit the list in this version
    2. the “zoom” option in the “view” list of functions is greyed out when in “Show All Bookmarks” window
    3. expanding the browser window has no effect on font size
    4. “Preferences” settings for font size has no effect in that window either, including advanced settings
    5. “Help” offers none that I can find.
    Can any of you Help?!?

  • How Do you use Cyrillic Fonts (Russian) in InDesign CS4 or CS3

    I have a headline in Russian a client sent me in an e-mail that I need to use on a poster I'm laying out in InDesign.
    I downloaded ERUniverse cyrillic font, and when I paste the Russian headline in a text box and go to select ERUniverse cyrillic, there's no Russian!
    Also, I go down to the bottom of my fonts there's Hebrew, Japanesse, Chinese fonts, etc...but no Russian.
    Please help with instructions on how to use a cyrillic font!!!

    I downloaded ERUniverse cyrillic font, and when I paste the Russian headline in a text box and go to select ERUniverse cyrillic, there's no Russian!
    That font must not be Unicode enabled. An old hack to insert Cyrillic characters into a regular font was to replace "unused" characters with Cyrillic ones. So, to type a 'de' д, you would insert the character code for an 'ê'.
    Modern fonts are Unicode enabled, which simply means that in every font Cyrillic characters are found in the same place. Thus, changing the font does not change the text.
    If you are working on Windows, check the Character Map for fonts that support Cyrillic. Select 'Advanced view', Character set: Unicode, Group by: Unicode Subrange. A small window pops up, enumerating all possible Unicode groups. Scroll down and select 'Cyrillic'. Now the character map will only show these characters for each font, so simply scroll through your font list to see which one have them.
    (And OSX no doubt has a similar feature.)
    The older Windows system fonts Times New Roman, Arial, Georgia, Verdana, and the newer ones Calibri, Cambria, and Candara, and lots of the fonts that came with your InDesign installation support Cyrillic (at least Minion Pro and Myriad Pro do).
    It's also possible the original text has not been typed using a Unicode font. If you need a quick check, select some of the text and select the font Arial Unicode (on a Mac, I think "LastResort" will do). If you see useful text, you're okay to go. If not, you have a huge problem. You will have to find the exact font that was used in the original document and use that, or use Find and Replace to change each character to the actual Cyrillic one (and you will need a hardcopy before you can do that).

  • How do I get more font styles in css please

    How to I find different fonts when selecting "font-family" or is that it?
    Thanks

    You can use absolutely any font you like.
    Honstly, you can. Just type in the name in the font-family and it will show up (use ' ' around two word fonts).
    The only problem is, if the viewer's computer doesn't have a font that you list in the font-family rule, it won't show. They'll see the second font in the rule, or third or fourth.
    That is, unless you use the @font-face Rule in CSS3...
    http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css3_pr_font-face_rule.asp
    Then you can use any font available to you through places like google.com/fonts or fontsquirrel.com
    You will always be stuck with that original limited handful of web-safe fonts for the old junk browsers people still use, but @font-face is very well supported in modern browsers.

    we may be as you say. But then again other people act like whats on the other side.
    We do our best. And if we fall short, well we gave it our best shot.
    Okay. In the interests of being completely clear:
    I have already tried this. Several times. This procedure will change the default for any of the fields that I place by hand. It does not change the default for any of the fields placed by the Wizard. I was unable to find a solution to the problem in any of the manuals, books, or on-line forums, which is why I posted here as a last resort. This leads to two conclusions:
    A. Your advice is incorrect
    B. There is a problem with my installation of Acrobat
    I will assume that A is not the correct conclusion. I will therefore try a re-install of my software to see if this clears up the problem. There have been other issues with other Adobe software on my machine that a re-installed has fixed nicely. Luckily, I don't have to do this at all often.

  • How to change the default font (Noteworthy) in Preview Annotation Note ?

    How to change the default font (Noteworthy) in Preview > Annotation > Note ?
    Thanks for any help guys. Noteworthy is horrible, in my view. But this does not matter. I simply do not want to use it, and woudl be fine with having helvetica back as the annotation typeface.
    Neither is Preview responding to changes I attempt in the type menu, nor did I find an entry when using “defaults read com.apple.Preview” in the Terminal.
    Any idea? Cheers.

    Sorry if this doesn't apply in Mountain Lion (no way to look at ML right now), but I see this in Preview under Mavericks:
    I click the annotation button (circled in red) and draw a box. I can then change the text to any active font using the drop down menu (circled in green).

  • How to add a new font into Report Builder and Oracle Forms/Reports Server?

    Hi,
    I've searched the forum and can't find this being discussed.
    My developers run Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2 on their XP laptops.
    Their reports run (in production) on Oracle Forms/Reports Server 10.1.2.0.2.
    This server runs on MS Windows 2003, SP2.
    They've got a client who wants reports using the "Garamond Western" font.
    So....how do I get this font onto the developer's Report Builder laptops, and onto the Oracle Forms/Reports Server?
    I've moved various 'Garamond' fonts into C:\WINDOWS\FONTS on both the laptops and the server, but neither seem to recognize it.
    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks.
    This answers 1/2 of my question.
    The developer can now use Report Builder on his laptop, with the new fonts.
    But when he moves this new Report to the Oracle Application Server/Forms-Reports Server, it fails to use the new fonts.
    The Oracle App Server/Forms-Report Server is Version 10.1.2.0.2. It runs on MS Windows 2003, SP2.
    I have installed the exact same fonts on this server, into C:\WINDOWS\Fonts.
    I have used REGEDIT to change REPORTS_PATH....and placed C:\WINDOWS\Fonts; as the first value in this field.
    I have then stopped and restarted the Forms-Reports Server.

  • How to embed the needed fonts in a pdf file

    The mentioned requirement need to work on below mentioned specifications
    OS:Windiows-XP,  Browser:IE
    OS:Mac osx, Browser:Safari
    Regards,
    S.N.Prasad

    There is a similar post just a few away from yours. I will suggest what I would try. Open your job settings file (press or print preferred to get all fonts) and then select the properties and the font tab. At your font to the always embed list and you will likely need to uncheck the subset box. Then save your job settings (give it a name that is meaningful to you, you can not use the settings file you started with as they are read only and I do not recommend changing that). Maybe that will do the job. Of course that is for the creation of the PDF, I forgot you were talking about a form. You might check the form field properties, but I suspect you have already tried that. Guess I don't play with forms enough. Others may be by to answer.

  • How can I copy a Font Book library with "Collections" to my 2nd laptop?

    How can I copy a Font Book library with "Collections" to my 2nd laptop?
    I have a number of fonts (approx. 500) on my work laptop which are sorted to different Collections. I'd like to have a copy of the Font Book library with Collections on the laptop I use at home to work. I'd think there was a more straight forward way to do it, but I haven't found any posts regarding the matter so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    To anyone who is reading this based on needing to copy their Font Book to another machine as I do, there is a way to make a copy of the fonts in Font Book by going to file/export fonts. Keep in mind that you will need to have all the fonts selected (command A) in your "All Fonts" list for them to be exported. You will then have a new folder saved to where ever you chose, with all your Font Book fonts in it.

  • How can I limit the fonts in the Character Map (charmap) and reinitialize the state after use?

    In a WPF application I have a RichTextBox in which users will be inserting text. I also must give the user the ability to insert characters. To do so I have called up charmap.exe using
    Process charProcess = new Process();
    ProcessStartInfo startInfo = new ProcessStartInfo();
    charProcess.StartInfo.FileName = strCharmap;
    charProcess.Start();
    etc., and it works fine. There are several problems I have basically with charmap, however, not with WPF. The first is that because of the subsequent use of the user’s insertion in the RTB, I must restrict the font to “Ariel Unicode
    MS.”  So far all I have been able to do is instruct and warn the user not to change fonts and
    change back any font change that occurs as a result of use of “Advanced view” features.
    Question number one is, how can I restrict the fonts loaded into charmap to this one font? The second problem is that if another font is called up, or the “Advanced view” state of charmap is closed, or a “Group by” feature is opened, these choices will
    be retained for the next user that opens charmap. How can I initialize the state of charmap for each new user with the correct font and “Advanced view” features showing. It is said,but in old posts, that reinitialization occurs for all but administrative users,
    but this seems to be no longer true. I have tried permission changes in charmap’s Properties, but I can’t get the necessary reinitialization to occur even if user’s don’t have modify permission. Can one use a .ini file, or the .mui file, or make Registry changes
    to accomplish my goals. There seems to be a warning in the .mui file about changing fonts, but is it cancelled? I am using Windows 7 and C#.
    I have looked at other character maps but they are either too complicated for the casual user, or they have no search engine and advanced features, or they have the same problems.
    I am pretty much a novice with respect to the Windows files use and WPF, so please be fairly clear, complete, and prescriptive in your answer. Also so that I and others can learn, it would be nice to have an explanation of why one does whatever you suggest.
    Your help is appreciated.

  • How do I use all fonts and Microsoft Word?

    Although my fonts seem to be installed correctly, I often get a message when I try to use a new font that says "font not available for use in Microsoft Word," or some such. How can I make installed fonts available for Word? (By the way, this was true with earlier versions of OS 10.4, as well.)

    Fonts you download or otherwise acquire as font files should be placed in the Fonts folder in your Library or in the Fonts folder in the global Library. Having been placed there, the Mac OS knows what to do and there's nothing more for you to do.
    However, if you add fonts to the Fonts folder while an application is running...well the OS is supposed to let the program know about that and the program is supposed to gracefully accept them but it doesn't always work that way. I've never seen the error you mention but I can imagine it occurring if you've just added a font and the program was running. Just quit and restart the program.
    Having said that, some programs, Word included, prebuild font lists to enable faster loading times. I can also imagine Word's font list becoming corrupt (which happens all too frequently) which might cause your error message. The fix is to delete the font cache file. (found in the ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office Font Cache)
