How do I identify a new type of virus?

This may not be a Firefox 4 problem specifically, but I was advised in another forum to post it here:
Recently I got hit by the FakeRean virus that I downloaded via Firefox 4 Beta 6. The mechanism is that the web site opens a global modal dialog offering to play a video, but instead installs a virus. In most cases I can recognize this as an attack, and the solution is to open Task Manager and terminate Firefox. Because the attack uses a global modal dialog, all other features of Firefox are disabled. However, if you're not thinking quick, sometimes you click the dialog by mistake instead of terminating Firefox.
Mozilla are actively working on this vector in Firefox 4, and hope to have a solution for the global modal dialog problem before the final release of Firefox 4.
Windows Security Essentials was able to identify it pretty quickly as FakeRean, but was not able to block it. Also, after running a scan and removing some occurrences of the virus, the virus was still able to propagate to other places. I scanned my computer 3 or 4 times without resolving the problem. Finally I downloaded and installed Windows Defender and had it scan a few time. For a while I had both Security Essentials and Windows Defender scanning at the same time. Finally after a day and a half I seemed to have gotten rid of the virus, but it took a great many scans by two applications to resolve the problem.
More recently I have encountered a similar, but far more nasty virus. It as the same behavior of many of the 'fake' security software viruses, it claims you have a virus, and prompts you to scan. It uses a combination of pop-up windows, system tray warnings, etc., although not quite as annoying as the FakeRean I had before. The nasty part is any time you try to run your security software, Security Essentials or Windows Defender, it intercepts them saying they are infected, so you cannot run them. Also, it seems to be smart enough to detect when you go to a web site to download security software and blocks that too. After several hours of trying I was not able to run any currently installed security software, or download and install any new security software. I probably could have found a few other things to try, but I had performed a full system backup the day before, so I simply booted my Windows Setup DVD and restored the last image backup - which seemed to solve the problem. A subsequent scan by Security Essentials found nothing.
This recent virus was also installed via Firefox 4, but beta 7 this time. I think I may have clicked on some dialog to activate it, but it was not too clear. Also, the attack site(s) seem to try installing a Firefox plug-in, but I never confirmed the request to install.
After restoring my system image, I ran into the same problem again via Firefox 4 beta 7 and picked up the virus from some web site, but this time I was being really careful to not click any dialogs or confirm any actions, so something more devious was going on as I picked up exactly the same virus, but a different way. Again, just restored my last backed up image and my system is clear of the virus again.
I can't say that Firefox 4 is specifically the problem because I have not tried other browsers on the same web sites, but these new attack sites seem to be getting more devious at getting around the security features in browsers. Also, they have no problem getting through Windows Security Essentials even when active protection is enabled.
Anyway, does this particular virus have a name? It would probably be 'fake' something.
Can anyone think of any way to identify the virus? I might try leaving Security Essentials open next time I go web browsing and see if that helps.
Can anyone think of any other ways to combat this virus, short of restoring the last system image backup?

If you have the application then it is in your Applications folder. Locate it then double-click on the icon. It's that easy. If you need to download it, then go here: Adobe Reader 11.0.09. The download will be a disc image file - has an extension of ".dmg." Normally, the download is in your Downloads folder or on your Desktop. Locate the .dmg file and double-click on it to mount the image on your Desktop. There will be an installer inside the mounted disc image. Double-click on the installer and follow the directions to install it on your computer.

I am shortly in the market for a basic MacBook (2 GHz model is OK) to complement my current iMac. I heard that Apple has recently upgraded the MacBooks with new chip architecture, glossy screen, etc., but they look very similar to the old, and I am not very familiar with either.

Except in Apple stores (none anywhere close to where I live), the sales staff isn't all that Mac-savvy, so it's "buyer beware". You could also ask them what type of graphics-chipset is installed in the MacBook in question...
previous models of MacBooks come equipped with the *Intel GMA 950*
whereas the more recent Santa Rosa MacBook comes with the newly improved (?!)
*Intel GMA X3100* integrated "graphics processor with 144 MB of DDR2 SDRAM shared with main memory"

A new type of virus?

I got a message from a friend I haven't talked to in years this morning, saying nothing but
" {hi} Vee! {mess} {links}/{folder}/[Removed for privacy] "
after which he promptly went offline again.
Now, I'm guessing I'm seeing the hyphenated stuff because I have emoticons turned off. But the {links}/{folder}/[Removed for privacy] thing is a clickable link ending with my own username, so it seems to be an internally used URL for skype. Alt text leads to {urls.txt} It seems fishy to me and I thought I'd put out the message just in case. A google search led me here but to a deleted topic. Ergo, here it is again.

SharePoint Designer 2013 (2010 Platform Workflow) - How can I create a new list item with a SPECIFIC content type?

In SharePoint 2010 I created workflows that used the 'Create list Item' Action, which then set the Content Type ID (so I could create documents of various types in a document library).
We just switched to the SharePoint 2013 platform, and now the drop down for Content Type ID is blank in all of the workflows that are still using the SharePoint 2010 platform. Is there any way to create a list item with specific content
type? Even if I could just input a string into that field instead of using this blank drop-down. Please help!

According to your description, my understanding is that you cannot create a new list item with a specific content type using SharePoint 2010 Platform Workflow.
I tested the same scenario in my environment, and the Create List Item worked fine with the specific content type.
How did you create the content type?
Please check if the content type is added to the list/library the workflow associated with.

You would have had a quicker response if you had posted in the iTunes forum.
You need to copy the iTunes folder, the one at the top not the iTunes Music library folder to your new computer to move your playlists.

How to add support for new file type.

Using the ESDK, I would like to add support for new file type ( a new extension). this new extension will function like any other non visual code editor but will have specific syntax highlighting, code folding and explorer.
I am trying ot figure out if I need to create a new editor or use existing JDeveloper code editor and add support for new file type. Does anyone have a high level outline on how to do this using the ESDK that is specifically targeted at adding new file type support for a text based code editor?
I have looked at the Samples and keep going in multipe directions. It would be cool if there was an example that was how add syntax higlighting for new file type.

Brian, thank you. I looked at this extension and it answered a lot of questions for me. I was going in the right direction but needed a little help and bost of confidence, this is just what I needed. I created the LanguageSupport, LanguageModel, Addin, Node and TextDocument that are specific to the new file type. I was getting hung up on how to hook this into the JDevelpoer editor. I keep thinking I have to create a custom editor but it looks like I don't have to and it looks like I can associate this file support with the editor framwork, for version 10.1.3.2, with the following in the Addin Initilize() method.

JDeveloper sees this new extension and it is loaded but I have not been able to show the test message or display the new icon when I open the new file type.

Hello rmoff,
Here are the steps for adding a Support identifier to your My Oracle Support (MOS) Account:
Once in MOS:
Go to More / Settings tab
Select My Account (left hand side menu)
In the Support Identifiers region, click on the Request Access button
Enter the Support Identifier you want to add. Provide a justification if need be and click the Request Access button
Your request will be sent to your Company's Customer User Administrator who will approve your request and grant you necessary privileges

Do remember that Firewire ports on Mac Pro's are hub'd together. I'm no 100% sure if it the same on the new '09 Mac Pro's but certainly on the older ones. this means that if you have a FW800 drive plugged in and then plug in a FW400 drive the whole speed of both devices will drop to a FW400 speed. Even worse, if you plug a camera in sometimes hese can run at what equates to FW100 / 200 speed. Therefore your FW800 speed drive will become massively unresponsive.
So if you're planning on digitising, remember to plug the camera into one of the front ports, and the drive into a back port. that should avoid the slow down.

Oracle DBA Studio - expand the Security node and you can create USERS and ROLES.
Or use SQL*Plus. To create a
user / password named John / Smith, you would login to SQL*Plus as System/manager (or other) and type in:
Create user John identified by Smith;
Grant CONNECT to John;
Grant SELECT ANY TABLE to John;
commit;
There is much more you can do
depending on your needs.

How do I identify and fix images Elements 10 believes are corrupt?

During the past three days I have had problems with the functionality of my Photoshop Elements 10 and received several messages indicating that the catalog is corrupt. How do I identify and fix images Elements 10 believes are corrupt?

Let me provide some more information that may help you diagnose this problem.
I run Elements on a PC. The operating system is Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium. The System Type is x64-based. The processor is AMD A8-3850 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, 2900 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s). The Hard Drive is 1.81 TB, and 1.5 TB of this is free. The Ram is 16 GB. Everything else works great.
I have used Photoshop Elements for about 10 years, during which time I have upgraded to newer versions 5 or 6 times. I have used Elements 10 during the past 2 years. I already bought Elements 12 but I am trying to repair this issue before I upgrade to it. I have approximately 65,000 photos in my catalog. All but the last 2,000 are backed up.
During the past few days I encountered several problems with the functionality of my Elements 10; all errors provide messages indicating that the catalog is corrupt. Forexample, when I edit a photo in my catalog, the thumbnail image of the newly edited versionwill not display. When I imported new photos, the thumbnail image would not display. In all cases the photo image was replaced by a ?.
I tried to correct the thumbnail problem by repairing and optimizing the catalog. In either case I received the same message that the catalog had not been repaired/optimized because some images were corrupt. However, despite this message, the thumbnails for the newly imported photos appeared but the thumbnails for the recently edited photos still have not.
Currently, I cannot import new images, edit, delete or even stack photos. I can still view, search for, copy and delete photos. When I try to import a photo a new photo I get the following messages - ”the requested change could not be completed because the current catalog is corrupt. You can attempt a repair in the file catalog dialog." - "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types or the files are already in this Catalog." and "The catalog could not be repaired, if you have a recent catalog backup, you should restore it."
I have visually inspected the catalog and found about 25 recently imported photos that have a thumbnail image but lack the photo's id (i.e. img_3075.jpg would be replaced with ?). They are my photos from my camera and no different that the other 300 images I imported at the same time. However, these images in the catalog are blurry. When I check the image in the My Pictures folder the image is fine and properly located between img_3074.jpg and img_3076.jpg. I attempted to reconnect but received a message that there are no files to reconnect. I cannot delete the images from the catalog and If I delete them at the source (in the file folder) they still remain in the catalog view.
Howdo I identify and fix images that Elements believes are corrupt?

patches Patches are software programs for individual BUG FIXES. Oracle issues product fixes software, usually it is called as patches.
patche SetsA group of patches form a patch set. Patch sets are usually applied to upgrade oracle version. EX ( 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4 )
If my DB needs patch ,I want to upgrade DB , version to Version (10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.4)

There are many ways to find out the user exits..
For example for VA01.
Goto Transaction ie VA01:
goto System-- Status
doubleclick on the program name ie SAPMV45A
SE38 -> Enter the program name and in the program( SAPMV45A) goto -- attributes
get the package name from here ie VA
note the package(VA) and get back to main screen
goto SMOD tcode and click on find button in the package spec giv the package name ie VA and execute it
you will find list of exits available
check out the exit that suits ur requirement
goto cmod and create a new project and implement in that user exit.

- Go to that program
