How do I import 1920x1080 video properly?

I have video recorded with a screen capture device (NOT an HDV camcorder) that is 1920x1080. I want to put it into Final Cut Express 4.0.1 (latest version). Am I supposed to use AVCHD 1920x1080 or HDV 1080i as the format in the "Easy Setup" tab? I tried AVCHD 1920x1080, but the video required rendering after I imported it and is taking a very long time. I've read that HDV 1080i is actually 1440x1080, which means I'd be losing quality, correct?
I know that to import HDV video from a source other than a tape camera into FCE, I'm supposed to convert it to Apple Intermediate Codec in QuickTime Player 7 first (which is faster than letting it render in FCE for some reason), but what do I convert it to if I'm going to use the AVCHD format in FCE?

Why are you converting it to the HDV setting? That in itself is not harmful, you are just changing the pixel aspect ratio, but it is not necessary.
In QT7 make sure you set the codec, frame rate and frame size:
then choose Size:
and set it to 1920 x 1080:

i have moved from a mac pro to a mac mini,
Mini now has mavericks and latest iLife stuff, I clicked import, was all good, then at end, no videos came across.
Is Mavericks,/iPhoto having a compatibiltiy issue with some video formats....???
Your help is appreciated gang.: )

Please describe exactly what you did. In moving to a new machine no importing is involved. The best way is to simply connect the two computers together and drag the iPhoto library from the old one to the pictures folder go the new one and launch iPhoto

It depends on the type of video. iMovie will only import video that it can edit.
In general, you would use FILE/IMPORT MOVIE...

  • How do I import a video to QT PRO from my device!?

How do I import a video to QT PRO from my device? All I see under "file" is "new audio recording" there is no option for "new video recording". this is driving me crazy. i just want to edit my video from my miniDV player. Any help would be great thanks for your time.

    Robert, welcome to these discussions.
Most modern digital video cameras ship with their own capture software.
You'll still find QuickTime Pro a very useful conversion tool to resize, edit and transport your final product.
The "One Click" recording feature of video (Mac only) to QuickTime movie format is in response to the ease of video capture from these devices. Most of these files need some further editing anyway.
Now that you own QT Pro you can export your camera files to DV Stream formats (preserving the original quality) and edit them in your favorite Windows software.
I doubt that many Mac users use QuickTime Pro just to export their videos directly to the .mov file format.
QuickTime Pro is a new tool that will now help you convert your captures to Web friendly formats you can share with friends and family.

  • How do you import a video file that has extension gp into i movie.  also rotating video

How do you import a video file that has the extension gp into ivmovie?  Also how do you rotate a video . (the video was taken from a phone.)

Hi, your video file needs to be converted to eg. a .mov or .mp4 file before iMovie will recognise. I use 4Media MP4 converter and it works excellent.
For the rotating I do not have an answer, but if you would manege you would end up with a very narrow image either way.
    Good luck

  • Help! How can I import camcorder video to imovie on my computer?

I have a G4 tower, running Leopard 10.5.8. I have a Sony Camcorder Handycam HDD Hybrid DCR-SR45. When I plug in the camcorder to computer the imovie does not launch to import. The computer does recognize that I plugged in my camcorder (icon shows up on my desktop), and when I open that file, and click on a file in the folder of video footage taken today, a window pops up that reads "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie file". How can I import today's video footage into imovie? Help! Homework project due Tuesday.

I tried, but when I hit import there is no option that says "import from camera". The driver that shows up on my desktop when I plug in the camcorder reads "no name". When I try to drag the video files into an open window of imovie an error message pops up reading "Error during import", "The file could not be imported;the file ""/volumes/Noname/MP_root/101PNVo1/MZU00001.MPG" Can't be imported. Quicktime could not parse it:-2048
What else can I try? Thx.

  • How do you import a video from Home Videos into Keynote?

Some one cleverly (not) decided that imported videos now must go in "Home Videos" but Keynote cannot import from there? How do you import a "Home Video" into Keynote?

This means that your file extension is set to playback on Windows Media Player thats all.
Change your folder settings in Windows Explorer, go to Folder Options, View tab, and uncheck hide extensions for known media types.
Then look at your filename and it should read "video name.mp4" or .m4v or .mov, these are the only file types that will play back on the 5G ipod.

  • How do I import GoPro video into Final Cut Pro X?

I'm about to purchase Final Cut Pro X (10.1.4). Will I be able to import my GoPro files? Do I have to convert them to another file type? Has anybody imported GoPro video into their projects? I believe that GoPro Studio can convert the video files into GoPro Cineform files that you're supposed to be able to import into 3rd Party Applications such as Final Cut Pro X.
If you have any advice, I would very much appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Kiki

I just copy the Gopro MP4 files on to a hard drive then import the media into a FCPX library. I have had no issues with dealing with GOPRO videos, but I am running a Hero 2 and a hero 3+.  I am no expert on it, I just do it.
