How do i import a DVD to my MAC

i am trying to import or copy a DVD of a memorial to my MAcPro but cannot find any help topic for DVDs
Please advise

What's your ultimate goal here? Do you just want a playable copy of the DVD sitting on your Mac, so you can remove the actual DVD and still play the movie at a later date?
If that's the case, you can create a copy in Disk Utility.
If you want to actually rip the DVD into a movie which you can perhaps edit or include in another project, you need to use Handbrake.

I was told to download a free software called "Handbrake", but I cannot find the free download for the version that is compatible with my 10.5.8 Mac OS X.
Is there a way to import and burn the DVDs without downloading software?
    Thank you.

    yes, use Disk Utility.

  • How can I import iPhone Garageband Files to Mac Garageband?

How can I import iPhone Garageband Files to Mac Garageband? I've found lots of threads about this but no direct answers/how to.
    Thanks

With the latest build of GarageBand on the device, move to the My Songs view, tap the Edit button at top right, select the shaking song you want to export, then tap the sharing arrow symbol at top left, tap iTunes, then GarageBand.
Connect the device to iTunes, select it in the left-hand column, then select the Apps tab. You should find the exported file in the File Sharing area of the GarageBand app and from there you can copy it to your computer, then open it with the GarageBand application.

  • How do I copy a DVD to my mac, and then trim it to upload clips to YouTube? They are not copyright protected DVDs.

I am trying to take a DVD (non copyrighted) and be able to add 10 min clips of it to a YouTube Channel. How do I copy that DVD to my Mac and trim the clips I want to upload. Thank you.

Copy the DVD to your desktop, then:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion and Mavericks even though they have it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • How can I download a dvd on my mac osx 10.7.4?

How can I download a dvd on my mac osx 10.7.4?

I am assumming these DVDs are your own personal property and are NOT rented or borrowed DVDs.
Once again, assuming that you own these DVDs, I recommend using Mac DVDRipper Pro to extract the content from your PERSONAL DVDs. I have it installed on my computer and it rips DVD's at maximum speed and uses very little processing power.
You can find more info. about Mac DVDRipper Pro at the following link...

  • All I want to know is: HOW CAN I IMPORT A PHOTO FROM MY MAC DESK TOP?

I am sorry to be so ignorant, but I am not sure of WHERE to "post" this question:All I want to know is: HOW CAN I IMPORT A PHOTO FROM MY MAC DESK TOP?

Do you mean you want to import a photo to the organizer? It's easier if you put the photo where you want to keep it before importing, but just go to File>Get Photos>From Files and Folders and import it. If you move it after importing you  must move it in folder view in the origanizer.
If you just want to edit the photo, there's no need to import it. Just go to File>Open in the editor.

  • HELP! How do I  import a DVD?!

Ok, maybe I'm just slow. I cannot figure out how to import a DVD into iTunes. I have read the manual, but when I tried to do it, the button it said to click on was not there. I've tried every other way possible that I can think of. In the manual it mentions that I have to convert the DVD, but it doesn't tell how or what program to use if any. Someone please help! I would really appreciate it.

You need to convert your DVD to mp4 format.
    What you will need;
    A PC with
    1. Enough hard drive space to do the conversion
    2. A DVD drive to read the DVD
    3. Software to do the conversion
    4. Time for the conversion process to happen (I suggest you do NOT use your PC while it is processing)
If you have #1 & 2, then you will need to get #3.
I personally use 2 pieces of software to do the conversion. AnyDVD and CloneDVD Mobile. Check them out here; http://www.slysoft.com/en/
The CloneDVD Movile allows for converting your DVD's to MANY different portable media formats. Just pick the one that you have (there are 2 different formats available for iPods, depending on what generation of iPod you own).
You can also take a look at this web site for other software (some you can find there are free) and user guides on how to use these types of software; http://www.videohelp.com/
Why should you not use your PC while doing a conversion? Because it's a labour intensive process for your PC. If you run other programs at the same time, you may affect the quality of your conversion. I use a separate PC that isn't connected to the internet and therefore doesn't require a virus scanner to be running all the time. That way nothing interferes with my conversion.

  • How do I import a DVD into FCP to edit?

I have a DVD I made of home movies. When I try to import the stuff on the DVD it says error. It only imports the Video TS portion of the DVD..SO........that means the video shows up on my time time but NO AUDIO?!
How do I import the video AND audio from the DVD?
    Can you help?

Have you tried it and gotten no audio? Audio and video are both in Video_TS. The audio folder is for songs such as on a CD.
Use MPEG Streamclip to translate to your desired format.

Okay, okay.  I have seen this topic discussed here dozens of times in the past 10 years.  I was trying to keep it simple.  The bottom line is, pretty much every instance of this question is people wanting to rip movies they "own" to their computers and in just about every instance (I think I have seen one, maybe two times when it was a home DVD) the easy answer is, "No it is  illegal [because almost every movie DVD is DRM protected], and we can't talk about it here."  Frankly, Apple is usually pretty fast off the mark at removing this kind of topic from the forum so I'm surprised you even got to respond.
Oh, I think both VLC and NicePlayer will play video_ts folders on a computer.
