How do I import a P2 spanned clip?

Hello,
I've not yet been able to find an answer to this problem - manuals/ websites etc.
I have a P2 spanned clip and would like to import it into FCP 5.
Please could you recommend the steps I should take, or perhaps refer me to a source that I might use to resolve this difficulty.
Thank you

Burping the import? Gross...
So it is creating QT files, but they are bad? Or do you have the red exclaimation points? Or does it fail to import?
#36 - One or More P2 files failed to import.
Shane's Stock Answer #36 - "One or more clips failed to import..."
Very often in the field with this camera the camera operator will delete clips from the P2 card that they just don't like. That is the beauty of this camera. But, the still for that video file (located in the CLIP folder in the CONTENTS folder)...the still that you see when you are in the P2 Import window...is not deleted. So you will see the image, and the name, but the video file would have been deleted.
What you can do it compare the file names in the VIDEO folder and CLIP folder and see if anything is missing. If something is, then you know what the problem is. You can then just import the rest a few at time, skipping that one.
ALSO...in the P2 Import window...in the P2 Browser, there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN and then try importing again.
ALSO...make sure your file names aren't too long. Try shortening them and see if that works.

  • How to Successfully Import or Convert .MTS Clips

The .MTS footage from the Canon Vixia HF M300 is not importing well into Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. Basically, it imports without any audio. I tried downloading 6 different converter programs and the closest I got to being able to use the footage was converting it and then getting a super pixelated tripped up version. One conversion program let me convert it fine and when I played it back on Quicktime there was no noise in the image--no trip-ups, but then when I imported it to Adobe, it got messy and the image would tweak out. I even tried rendering one of the imported clips thinking it was a problem of the computer speed, but that didn't do anything to clean the image up. How do I rememdy the situation?

    Try starting a new project
Import some clips into the media bin
    Select one clip
Right click on the selected clip
    Select new sequence from clip
Add media to this new sequence
    Report back how it plays

  • Import (XF-300) MXF spanned clips in 5.5 - how?

    Adobe claims:
    "Enhanced Canon XF native support
Preview Canon XF footage  in the Media Browser panel and utilize camera metadata throughout your  preproduction and post-production workflows. Spanned clips are displayed  as a single asset in the Media Browser, reducing clutter."
    I say: Ok, how?
The online man page instructions for "Importing assets from tapeless formats" simply doesn't work. Selecting a single clip of a span imports that one clip. Selecting all the clips or a parent directory of the clips imports all the clips as separate clips - just like they appeared in PP5. It does not import mutiple copies, as Adobe claims will happen.
So it looks like "Enhanced Canon XF native support" claims are bogus, or maybe just poorly implemented.
What conerns me is that Adobe's help pages don't even reference XF format.
At this stage, it looks like Adobe Premiere Pro fails to properly support Canon XF-300/305, just as Premiere Pro 5 did.

Kevin, thanks for your prompt response.
I've finally had the time to try this again and understand it.
I wasn't using the media browser. I was using the import function from the Project panel, which is how I have always loaded clips. I had never used the media browser and assumed that one ended up using it anyway no matter which front end used for import.  i.e. I thought the media browser was simply the back end file selector dialogue.
So I see that (only) the media browser will import spanned clips as one unified clip into the sequence, which is an improvement for sure. I do think that import of the Project panel should work the same way.
I initially had a problem though, as my top level directory above the numbers clip dirs was not CONTENTS. It had to be renamed to avoid conflict with other CONTENTS clip set in the same project. So the media browser refused to load the spanned clips together, but would allow me to load a single clip. It wasn't until I guessed, and renamed my top dir back to CONTENTS that things worked and the the View as dropdown showed the magic Canon XF option.
I suggest this implied requirement be made clear in the manual, noting that the top dir must be named CONTENTS for this to work. Yes, I believe that's the MXF standard, but many people will rename their parent directory so multiple cards can be copied into the same project directory, instead of having yet another single-entry directory above the CONTENTS directory, like CARD1 CARD2 etc.
I beieve that the software is at fault and should be changed - if it can see mutliple numbered MXF dirs at the same level, it should simply deal with them. I know you can't fix that, but please warn people.
Anyway, thanks again for your reply. It got me on the correct path to a solution.

  • Spanned clips from my p2 card won't import fcp6

    hey shane
i am in fcp6 and having the spanned clip issue. i have a spanned clip that won't import into fcp6. i used p2cms to offload so i do not have the lastfile.txt but could you walk me thru how to import these 4 or 5 spanned clips?

As long as you have all the card dump folders loaded into the Log and Transfer window, FCP will stitch together spanned clips. So if your clip goes from one card to another, load both cards into L&T, then import.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 Does Not Import Panasonic GH4 Spanned Files as a Single Clip

Premier Pro CC 2014 does not import Panasonic GH4 spanned files as a single clip. I have made a short video that shows the problem with the GH4 footage and it show how the Canon XA-10 footage imports correctly.
Is this a known problem? Am I doing something wrong? It makes the Master Clip Effects in Premier Pro useless because every spanning fragment is turned into a master clip.

    Jim,
I've looked up all sorts of MP4/MOV comparisons on the web ... most conclude that mov is perhaps a bit "safer" on an Apple OS and mp4 "safer" on a PC and non-Apple "devices", but generally list the contents of the two as being nearly indistinguishable. I do realize the Qt has had ... issues ... within the Adobe programs, especially on PC's.
You have any other good info? Always looking to learn from the more experienced ...

  • Importing tape into Imovie 11. How do I import all the clips as one long clip?

How do I import all the clips as one long clip? I have 45 min of footage and I want it as one long take I can edit in Final Cut ProX. When I import, all the clips are split up when the scene cuts. I just want the 45 min in one long video.

iMovie will import the tape as if it is direct from the camera. It will sense the scene breaks and put all the clips in chronological order.
If you want to import it as one long clip, I suggest you load the tape into the app that you edited the tape with. Then export it out as a QuickTime movie in the DV codec. You can import this MOV file into FCPX or iMovie.

  • How do I import a clip when the window automatically closes?

I was unable to even open After Effects CC when I upgraded to OS Mavericks. Once I realized adobe released a patch for it (the 12.0.1 "trial" update), the program opened. I thought all was fine, until I attempted to import a new video clip. It would not let me even move the clip, let alone edit it, before giving me a "grouping" error, and then abruptly crashing. Today Adobe released the 12.1 update, which seems to be running ok, except the window for importing footage automatically closes once opened. I can no longer just drag a new clip in to my composition either. How can I get by this?

  • Premiere CS5 import avi clips without sound. How can I import avi clips with sound without convert?

    Dear Adobe Forum,
I have the following problem, please help:
I would like to import avi clips in adobe premiere. All clips have the same avi codec. But unfortunately my adobe premiere does not import the sound of a few
avi clips. It is wired because about 10 out 70 avi clips which have all the same avi codec does not work with sound in premiere CS5. In the timline premiere import the video and audio line but there are no audio waves in the about 10 avi clips. additonally premiere plays the 10 avi clips in the source monitor without sound. Furthermore when I open the 10 avi files without adobe premiere they have sound, but with premiere there are no sound in the 10 avi clips.
What can I do, so that I can import all avi files with sound. I do not want to convert each of the avi files because then they have not a good quality and it is to complicated and it takes to much time to convert all files in this video project and in the other video project in my future.
Consequently How can I import all avi files so that they have immediately sound? Do I have to change some premiere settings?
    Thank you in advance
    Leonardo

  • I figured out how to snap a still photo of a movie clip, but where then does it go, and how can I import it into my iPhoto library?

I was working in iMovie and discovered how to take a still photo of a movie clip.  Now I can't find that still photo!  Where did it go, and how can I import it to my iPhoto library?

Just found out and it is simple.  When you find a frame in your video/movie of which you want a still photo or screen shot, just go to the frame and click on command, shift and the #3 in quick succession.  You will hear a "click" like a camera taking a photo.  The screen shot will then go to your desktop where you can drag it to iPhoto or an e-mail, or anywhere you like.  Also you can rename the screen shot by double clicking on the wording under the screen shot on your desk top. Whew!
