How do I import an index into Indesign for epub and keep the links live?

What is the best way to import a subject index (the indexer uses skyindex, and has an option to output index links to indesign para numbers), but he currently provides a word file for import into Indesign 5.5 with dead page numbers. We need to retain that for print publishing, but change the index numbers for epub, to links in both directions. Whats the best way to tackle this? I hope someone out there has done this!

Page numbers do not exist in epub.
Have a read through this:

  • How do I import a .PDF into inDesign?

How do I import a .PDF into inDesign? Does anybody know how? I need to edit a book in inDesign that is a .PDF. So if anyone know how to do that please tell me.

Bob, Peter, grmg, many thanks for your very helpful comments.  Delighted mac/pc not relevant.  Will scratch that from list of herrings to chase.
Re PDFs - actually, I'm working in Acrobat (not just a finalized PDF), and Acrobat does of course allow editing of a sort; I'd concluded that since Adobe is willing to tolerate that degree of editing with its product, it should therefore tolerate moving its native format (*.pdf) into another of its own native formats (*.indd). I see that's a misconception.
This morning I tried all flavors I could find of getting my Acrobatted content into ID3, including copy/paste, place, and import (from the ID side); none was satisfactory.  Output from Acrobat to Word and then placing Word was fine for English but destroyed the Greek - not just wrong font, but complete gobbledygook and loss of all diacriticals.  Names of fonts don't matter for my purposes; the legibility of the English, and the legibility and tonic accuracy of the Greek do matter. Author of this project is not tech-savvy and is using old Greek system as well; nothing he or i can do to fix that.
Current plan is to request author to provide me his native files, which will be Mac files.  Am I understanding the Import dialog and your collecitve comments to suggest that with that file resident on my PC (and unopened), I can use the Place dialog, with "Show Options" selected, to get the Mac file into ID?
Chapeaux to those of you with constructive comments - hugely appreciated.

Ask in the iDVD forum on what's the best way out of iPhoto and into iDVD.  The resident expert there, Bengt Wärleby, can give you the best option.

  • How do I merge several indexes into one for a book?

I have created a book comprising 6 sections for a total of 343 pages and have created an index for each section. The pagination is consecutive 1-343 and I want the have a single index for the book. How do I combine those six indexes into one in Indesign CS4? Thanks in advance.

When generating your index you have the option to "Include Book Documents". If all's well, that ought to work.

  • How To needed for zooming and KEEPING the new close-up format

Hey folks, I have searched but perhaps I am not using the right key words because I cannot get the answer.
I filmed and imported a clip which has the subjects too far away so I worked out how to use the wireframe (thanks for that- I got that much from here) to zoom in and reposition the edited clip.
BUT- when I export it it is back to how it was- with too much wasted space around it.
What do I need to do to KEEP the zoomed in look?
    Thank you for reading.

Thank you Ian, it could well be. Changes only "stick" in the Viewer window, eh? I have looked and the slider in Motion is set to 140 so I assume that is percent. Am exporting as I type. Thank you very much.
For those looking to scale/zoom in to crop the picture (edges):
Select Image+Wireframe so that a white cross (from corner to corner) appears over your clip in Canvas (thank you Tom Wolsky) and then drag its corners in which ever way you would like- making the clip zoom in or out depending on your need. You can also move it around to recenter it if you wish.
PS: I did this in the Viewer (and NOT the Canvas one) and it WORKED fine. However I am told that this is to be done in the one entitled Canvas.

My husband and I both have iPhones . How do I use one iTunes account to share music, photos and apps, and keep our email accounts separate since all data will use the iCloud function.

You shouldn't be using the same account on phone iphones. Have him setup his own and make sure his iCloud is logged in with that one

  • How can I hyperlink from FM to an external document and make the links work in PDF-XChange Viewer?

A couple of months ago some of you kindly taught me how to insert links to an external document in FrameMaker. The syntax that made all the difference, was the following:
    message openfile "H:/folder name/to/your/file.ext"
I converted my FrameMaker file to PDF format using Acrobat Distiller, and everything worked like a charm when the users opened the resulting PDF document in Acrobat Reader.
Much to my frustration, someone has now decided that the organisation should use PDF-XChange Viewer instead of Acrobat Reader, and my links don't work anymore... Nothing happens when you click on them. (This only applies to links to external documents. Links to e.g. websites work nicely.)
Has anybody got any idea what I could do to make the links work in PDF-Xchange Viewer as well? Or am I trying to do the impossible now?
    Best regards

..well, the fact that i can install an older Version of id is an releave...!but! the fact that i cannot open .pmd file in id cc is .. in my humble opinion
a bad sign of things to come.. i mean sooner or later adobe will completely cancel the ability to download/use id cs6 ... and then what?... buy an old version of pagemaker

  • How to direct import iPhoto images into InDesign pages?

Is there a simple way to import images from iPhoto and not loose resolution? I keep my concept images for client presentations in iPhoto and have been using Pages or Photoshop or Keynote to create simple presentation pages with images, and the same header/footer with my logo, project name. I would like to have a bit more type control so ran through tutorials on InDesign and didn't find my answer.

I want to be able to import scanned images. What file format must I save the data in?

For example, to print on a press you need images that are CMYK at 300 ppi, 100% scale. If you're just making office-quality documents or PDFs, you can use RGB images at a lower resolution.
You do not need images to be CMYK for print. InDesign can handle the conversion from RGB to CMYK when exporting to PDF. The old rule of thumb that images for print need to be 300 ppi is history. The ideal minimum resolution is halftone screen times the square root of 2 (1.41421356). But you can get away with a lower resolution for most images.

  • How do I connect my iPad to a new PC and lose the link to my old PC?

I have purchased very littl music through iTunes, but I have a great many CDs copied to iTunes. I established a good link between my iPad (iOS 7) and my PC. Initially I had iTunes Match but my broadband was too slow. I used the sync over wi-fi connection.I then changed my PC. When I connect my iPad to my new PC, iTunes does not see the device. I have recently deauthorised all my devices and re-authorised my new PC (Windows 8.1). My iPad in the Sync over Wi-Fi settings, still has my old PC device name and does not appear to be amendable. I don't mind losing any iTunes data already on my iPad. Does anyone knw what I can do to establish the link?

    Hey HK Sussex,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you need to setup Wi-Fi syncing with your new computer:
iTunes 10.5 and later: Troubleshooting iTunes Wi-Fi syncing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4062
    Turn on Wi-Fi syncing
To sync your content to your iOS device through Wi-Fi, you must turn on the option in iTunes:
    1. Connect your iOS device to your computer using the Apple USB cable.
    2. Open iTunes and select your device on the left side of the iTunes window. In iTunes 11, your device will be in the upper-right. You can also find your device by expanding the sidebar from the View menu.
    3. Click the Summary tab.
    4. Scroll to the Options section and select "Sync with this [iOS device] over Wi-Fi."
If you are having issues with your device not being recognized in iTunes when connected via USB, see this article:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

  • How do I switch from external datasource to LS datasource and keep the same data entities? Need to edit design.

    Hi all,
I have a LightSwitch desk top application that I wrote back in 2011 right after LightSwitch was available using VS2010 and the necessary extensions.  I am now in the process of trying to upgrade that application using Visual Studio 2013 Version 12.0.30501.00
Update 2.  The first thing that I do to make my life easier so that I am not re-inventing the wheel is connect to a copy of the original database.  This makes things a bit easier in that I now don't have to re-create my data entities.  However it
appears that even though this is a copy I cannot edit the design. Are there any flags or properties that I can flip to make the entities editable?
I need to change the database design.
    Thanks, -ja

I think you answered your question here. You can edit any part of the database with your SQL skills once you are familiar with Microsoft SQL Server. AND Lightswitch is a Rapid Application Developer tool specially tailored to people who want a simple
way to visually create some basic databases. That's why I first asked what you wanted to change in your original Database to focus your question on the tool Yann Duram books says you can use to make further edits if you have access to the server. As Dave says
you can reverse engineer it all I mean its just text files and folders but its a lot of work as well and you have to reprogram each part of the file structure including the .lsml's which hold the basic Entity framework it looks like an XML indented format
like the following. I only mess with it when I know what to add were because it is a native code to lightswitch.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <ModelFragment xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/LightSwitch/2010/xaml/model">
