How do I import AVCHD clips from my hard-disk?

Has anybody been able to import AVCHD clips stored in a hard-disk? I save my clips onto my hard-disk after downloading from the media card from the camera however iMovie does not seem to recognize the folder structure.
S.r.

Yes, this worked. Ideally it would be nice not to have to do that as I don't fully trust the disk image format as a final archive format and hence end up duplicating the media. I would prefer to leave it as ordinary folder structure (which works with FCP 6.0.1).
I suppose this could be a .1 release feature.
Thanks,

  • How can I import AVCHD files from my hard drive?

    - How can I work with .mts files from my Sony camera that I dragged from the camera to a folder on my computer. If I understand it well, if I import the files with a Log and Transfer, they will be converted to another format.
    - do they lose quality with the Log and Transfer conversion?
I want to erase my sony camera hard disk but do not want to lose the original files, that is why I ask.

    Hi -
In order to use the files from your camera easily (without 3rd party software) you need to not only drag the mts files, but the ENTIRE DIRECTORY STRUCTURE of the camera storage to your hard disk drive. Many people find it most convenient to use Disk Utility to make a disk image of the camera storage media, and keep the disk image on their hard disk, available for re-use at any time.
The additional folders that are present on the camera storage give necessary and valuable information to Final Cut as to how to "unpack" the extremely compressed video files. Without these files as guides and instructions, it becomes a much more difficult process.

  • How to import AVCHD clips from HD camcorder?

How I can import AVCHD clips from Sony HDR-TG1 with best possible quality to iMovie '09?
Camera records clips as 1080i format but when I import them to iMovie '09 quality are cr*p. I have a same problem with iMovie '08. This has something to do with interlacing and single field processing but is there any workaround (other than using PC)?

Preview playback may not be too good since QuickTime in general doesn't seem to deinterlace very well (when it deinterlaces at all).
Quality of exported footage varies greatly according to whether or not you select +just the right+ export settings. See this thread for details:

  • PSE-10 how do I import and copy from external hard drive into organizer

Can I import and copy from external hard drive into organizer? Under Get Photos, I select import  from folders/files but after browsing to the external hard drive the copy option is disabled/greyed out. I there a method to import and copy?

That would be mounted as an internal drive and hence the corresponding option is not checked during Import.
Once you import the media form this drive, you can select all and go for File >> Copy/Move files option and copy them wherever you want to.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I import video clips from iPhoto if it doesn't recognize the video clips in iMoive

I'm trying to make a movie using iMovie and I recorded some clips using a Sony Digital Camera and iMovie won't let me upload the video clips from iPhoto. I try to import them but when i try to click on the file, it won't let me. Like its not bold like other files (It will let me upload video that were taken with my iPhone) I have iMovie 09.
What do I need to do?
    Thanks!

Do you plan to put each video clip in iDVD to be playes separately?  If so then here's how:
1 - open iDVD and select your theme.
2 - click on the Media button at the bottom right and then on the Photo button at the top.
3 - in the search window type in ".mov" (or the extension of the video clips you plan to use).
4 - all of the video clips with the extension you entered will be displayed and you can drag them into the menu area at the left.
Another way would be to put all of the video clips in an Album and click on that album to view and drag the clips:
Remember, the order that they are added to the menu will be the order that the buttons will highlight when you scroll thru the buttons with a DVD player remote.
This will give you a menu with a separate button for each video clip (up to 12 in a menu with some themes).
If you want to play all of the clips one after another you could create a slideshow in iDVD with the "+" button at the bottom and drag the video clips into the slideshow as you would still photos.  Set the slide duration to anything but manual and don't apply any transition.
That will let you play all of the clips sequentially.

  • Problems importing AVCHD clips from Panasonic GF1

I'm having problems importing clips from my new Panasonic Gf1. FCE (4.0.1) sees the device ok, and selecting and previewing the clips in the log and transfer window works fine, but once the clips are in FCE (converted to AIC) they play fast in the viewer or when placed in the sequence. Strange, because they play fine in the preview window before importing. Tried this in iMovie 08 and get the same effect.
I'm can convert them Toast to AIC and they work fine when imported to FCE but this is not my preferred workflow.

I tried using Toast Titanium 10 for conversion as suggested but there was a slight issue with synch of video and audio. So I downloaded and bought Voltaic HD as suggested elsewhere and the AVCHD files of the Panasonic GF-1 are now playing in Final Cut Express 4 without issues - I am editing with no problem. Given that I can use the Log&Transfer Window (Final Cut 4) for my Olympus EP1 and my Panasonic HD video cam, it's odd that the files of the Panasonic GF-1 don't work in Final Cut (yet), but at least I am back editing. Voltaic HD was $35, a doable expense.... it does work flawless (so far).

  • How do I import short 'clips' from a DVD of a commercial film into I-Movie?

    Hi, tech wizards!
I have a copy of a commercial film on a DVD. I teach this film in my class, and want to 'snip' the pertinent parts of the film from the DVD and put them into Keynote -- to do that I need to, I believe, first transfer these 'snips' to iMovie. Leaving aside copyright questions (hey, I'm just a teacher!) does anybody know how to do this?
Right now I'm just playing the movie on my apple DVD player, and trying to figure out how to 'snip' the pertinent clips, and transfer them to i-Movie clips.
    Thank you!

borrow a miniDV camcorder with analogue-in
    connect to dvd-standalone player
    import sequences
    proceed with tape as usual...

  • How can I import video clips from my Kodak Z740?

I have done this three times, and now I am unable to. I am losing my mind! I believe that when I did it before, I imported pictures first off the camera into iPhoto, then I pushed the import button again and the movie clips came in, which I then transferred to iMovie. This isn't working now. Help!

Hi Brealyn - welcome to iMovie Discussions!
Can you tell us more about what you are wanting to do?
Are you wanting to use movie clips from your digital still camera to make an iMovie video?
What part of the process is not working now? Are you able to import the still pictures into iPhoto successfully?
Can you also import the movie clips successfully, or is that the problem area?
If you have been able to import them, can you then not get them into iMovie?
Are you saying that you have succeeded three times in getting movie clips like that into iMovie?
Lots of questions!! Just want to clearly establish what you have managed before and what you cannot do now.
The following info comes from the iMovie Help Menu:
MPEG-4 video cameras (which yours is) may not have a FireWire connection, but have a USB connection. To transfer the video from and MPEG-4 device to your computer, connect the device to your computer using a USB cable. Your MPEG-4 camera or device appears as a hard disk on your desktop. You can open the hard disk icon and drag the video footage into your iMovie HD project or to your desktop for importing later.
When importing footage from an MPEG-4 device, your video is imported as a single clip into your project; iMovie HD does not break it up into cllps automatically. You cannot use the capture controls to import your video or control your camera. You cannot use the Make a Magic iMovie feature to import video automatically from an MPEG-4 camera connected by a USB cable.
The Help Menu is really worth looking at.

  • Importing Movie Clips from External Hard Drive

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere...
I use my Sony SD card camcorder to save in AVCHD. I can import clips through iMovie to an external HD for editing etc. No problems. I want to know if rather than importing through iMovie, I can copy my AVCHD file directly to my external HD (using Finder) & then import the file from my external HD for processing later?
I tend to end up with numerous clips on my card, might be covering differnt events, differnt days etc. I don't always have time to import into iMovie on the day I shoot. For , the ability to just dump files to my HD quickly to free up SD card space would be really useful, but I am not sure it is possible
    Any feedback welcome
    D

    Yes.
The best way is to use the iMovie import screen. At the bottom left you will see a button that says "Create Camera Archive". Press that button and you will copy the AVCHD to the location you specify.
Try IMPORT/FROM CAMERA ARCHIVE and verify that your clips show up. Then it is safe to erase your card.
Another way. Go into Disk Utility, Select your card. Choose Create Disk Image.
Another way. Go into Finder. Create a folder. Drag the entire contents of your card, including folders, and especially empty folders to this new folder. If you do it right, that is the same as an Archive.

  • How do I import imovie events from another hard drive?

I have dozens of events from iMovie I need to import to Final Cut X but they all reside in the 2nd and 3rd hard drive bay in my Mac Pro. The only option I see to import is the single command that gives no options and just says import so it only looks to the imovie events on my OS hard drive (which I DIDNT want imported).
How do I import all these other iMovie events?
I am using Lion and the latest version of iMovie and Final Cut.

Use iMovie to move the events to your Movies folder, otherwise you're can't.

I also brought  a RAID CARD SYBA| SYPEX40039 bootable. attached the ssd to that.
I like to migrate the Windows volume to the SSD.
but I have trouble to get the boot manager on to the ssd. despite not using uefi on the original install on the 1Tb drive. I can't use ghost. if I use ghost form the other partition(vista)  I can clone partition but  the 1TB is too huge to
for disk to disk cloning to  ssd 480GB
Can I start w 8.1 DVD to do a repair on the ssd to get the boot manager to there?

    Hi fs - ab,
Since third party clone software frequently cause system corruption and it’s not fixable, we only recommend two ways for system installation on new hard disk: performing a clean install or using windows system image restore and both ways need reactivate
Windows 7. And for system image restore, you can only do a system image recovery to a HDD or SSD that is the same size or larger than the one(s) included in the system image when it was created. You will not be able to do a system image recovery to a smaller
HDD/SSD. If the HDDs/SSDs are larger, then you will have "unallocated" space afterwards that is left over from the difference that you can extend into.
In that case, we VERY recommend you to perform a clean install for new hard disk.
Note: If you decide to use windows system image to restore your computer, you need to create a windows recovery disk (drive) for entry to Windows repair environment.

  • How do I import imovie clips from my iphone 6 to my mac running yosemite?

My iphone 6 screen is completely smashed leaving me unable to use the touchscreen. I know that you can just send the imovie project to itunes but I can't use my screen to do it. Also, when I go into imovie from my computer and click import and then go to my phone it says there are no clips. Is there a way I can get those imovie clips to my computer through another means? Thanks

    God Bless You,
Its very simple, you can download pixelpipe to upload it straight from the phone, or just connect your iphone to your computer (if you have a mac, then go to iphoto, and the video should be there). I'm not sure how you would do it on a pc.

  • Trouble importing AVCHD clips from camera

Yesterday I was using my Canon Vixia HG20 to record AVCHDclips, which records it in a .cpi file. Although I’m unable to play them onQuickTime, I was able to import them through Final Cut Pro X by using “ImportFrom Camera”. Then I was able to edit the videos with no problems. But nowtoday, after recording more footage, when I hook up my camera to my MacBook Pro2011 entry level 15” (the same computer I used yesterday) my camera doesn’t evenshow up on the list in Import From Camera; the only camera in the list is thebuilt in FaceTime camera. I’m not sure if it makes a difference, but both todayand yesterday I have been using a PlayStation 3 charger cable to connect thecamera to the laptop. Any ideas on how to get the camera to show up in thelist, or at least another way to edit these files? Also, I read on anothersimilar post that their camera wouldn’t show up on Final Cut Pro X but it wouldfor iMovie, however I tried this and my camera won’t show up on the Import FromCamera list on iMovie either.

If I open the chip has the structure of extension file. 1920x1080 MTS format (1080/60i), after using the program sony the extension of the file becomes as written previously tried to import the file. Dragged from MTS clip the desktop, and nomatter, I wonder if I use ClipWrap which settings should I use to lose nothing in image quality?

  • How do you "import" AVCHD 60P from Canon camcorder so it can be "converted" for iMovie?

Low-tech guy here.  I don't know video formats and I don't edit video often.  I used my new Canon VIXIA HF R400 camcorder to record high-quality video (AVCHD 60P) not realizing when I connected my camera to my MacBook Pro the video does not even appear for import onto the computer.  I realize I have to convert the format to one iPhoto and iMovie will recognize, but my question is how do I even get my computer to see the video on my camera so I can drag it into a converter software?  I see several chats about how to convert, which assumes the software can see the video on the camera - my problem is I can't even get my computer to see the video so I can then import and covert it.  I've tried Bigasoft AVCHD converter software and the AVCHD Converter by iFunia, but neither software sees the video.  (The Bigasoft doesn't even recognize my camcorder.  iFunia recognizes the camera but doesn't see the video clips.)

Thank you for trying to help me.  I may just be hopeless.  As I mentioned I don't know my video formats (though I've tried to learn now).  I just upgraded to Maverics (thank you!) and was pleased to see that now iMovie recognizes my Canon camcorder, but it does not "see" my individual video clips.  The thumbnails are just blank and I'm not able to check mark any of them (see image).  Maybe the format is just too high-quality for iMovie?  It's AVCHD 60P (or 1080p?)  I don't know what the difference is between the two.  iMovie used to be so simple I didn't need to know that.  I just wanted to put together a simple movie quickly.  I'll have to let go of the dream and let go of iMovie!  LOL  Again, thanks for trying to help!
