How do I import bookmarks from a Favorites folder that I've copied from another computer? I'm using Win 7

I copied the "Favorites" folder off off another computer and now have in on a local hard drive. How do I either point Firefox to it or import those bookmarks. I'm using Win 7 and Firefox menu has no "Import" function that I can find.
Thanks,
Rich

Firefox can't handle the .url type IE favorites.
You would have to copy the favorites in that folder to the current IE favorites folder and see if you can import the IE favorites in Firefox.
If not then you need to export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import this file in Firefox.

  • I am trying to import my favorites from a Favorites folder that are .url files! Please help!

    Hi,
So my old laptop died, and I saved my favorites from internet explorer as a Favorites folder (I took the harddrive out of my old laptop and dragged everything onto an external harddrive). I now have a new laptop and am trying to pull in all my favorites into Mozilla. I have already looked at all the help files on here, but it looks like they are only for importing .html files? I was looking at my saved favorites and it seems they are all saved as .url files. Any advice on how to get these into Firefox? I really really don't want to have to re-bookmark EVERYTHING.
    Thanks!

Firefox can handle its' own json and sqlite format for bookmarks/places, and it can handle the universal bookmarks.html interchange format, but it can't deal with the Favorites .url format - that's unique to IE and its' clones. Get that folder of .url files back into Internet Explorer and then export that data as an HTML file.

Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist is the file you want. Use a copy, just in case & do it with Safari quit.

  • How do I restore bookmarks from a favorites folder?

My hard drive crashed and when replaced it I moved from Windows XP to Windows 7. I did not backup my Bookmarks with Firefox, but I do have a backup file listed under Favorites on an external drive. Most of my Bookmarks are in folder format. Is there any way to import or add the Favorites folder to Firefox without having to individually add each bookmark file?

  • How do I import Bookmarks from Firefox 28.0 into Firefox 29.0.1?

How do I import Bookmarks from Firefox 28.0 into Firefox 29.0.1? I am running OS X 10.7.5 and just updated Firefox from 28.0 to 29.0.1. How do I import my old 28.0 bookmarks into 29.0.1? I've tried all the suggestions but nothing works. WHERE are my old bookmarks? Help, please!

Your bookmarks can be imported and exported from the Library (Bookmarks Manager).
*Go to the clipboard icon, click Show All Bookmarks <i>OR</i> press Cmd + Shift + B
*Once there, you'll see Import and Backup (see screenshot), you have a choice to choose between backing up as a JSON (Import and Backup -> Backup) or HTML (Import and Backup - > Export bookmarks to HTML)
Once this is done and the file has been backed up, you can import them using the same method (Import & Backup -> Backup for JSON/Import & Backup -> Import bookmarks from HTML (HTML)
One of our awesome contributors explained the difference between a JSON backup and a HTML backup that is very explanatory:
Restoring a JSON backup will replace all your current bookmarks (you get a warning about that), so if you already have bookmarks that you wish to keep then export them to an HTML file before restoring the JSON backup.
You can import that HTML file after you have restored the JSON backup to get your current bookmarks back (you need to remove duplicates).
You can't import a JSON backup to add (merge) bookmarks.
Importing bookmarks from an HTML file adds the imported bookmarks to the already existing bookmarks, so you may need to remove duplicates.
An HTML backup doesn't support tags and annotations, so if you want to preserve those then you need to use a JSON backup.
A JSON backup doesn't preserve the website favicons, so you need to visit a website to get back that favicon.

The built-in Firefox Sync service allows you to store your settings, including bookmarks, on a Mozilla server. This isn't accessible as a file like Google Drive; it can only be used by connecting another copy of Firefox to your Sync account. You can read more about this here: [[How do I set up Firefox Sync?]] (I haven't tried it myself since it changed recently.)
The cross-browser Xmarks service is more focused: it just does bookmarks. http://www.xmarks.com/ (I've never tried this one either)
If you prefer working with files and you have a Dropbox or similar account, you could in theory back up your Firefox profile folder, or more particularly, the bookmarkbackups subfolder. I haven't tried that myself. To find the folder:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
A window should launch showing your currently active settings files. The bookmarkbackups folder should contain dated .json files which can be used to restore your bookmarks to another copy of Firefox.
Alternately, someone might have created an add-on for saving Firefox bookmarks to the cloud another way, but I haven't heard of one.

  • I see my bookmarks in my Favorites folder but they don't come up when I click on Bookmarks in Firefox browser.

I have all my bookmarks organized in c:/user/xxxxx/favorites on my PC (Vista Basic Home Premium). When I open the Firefox browser and click on Bookmarks on the Menu bar, only a few show up. How can I sync my bookmarks from my Favorites folder to Firefox browser? I searched the web and can't seem to find the solution to my problem.

You import the favourites into Firefox and it sets them up within the Firefox Bookmarks Library. From then on you can organise the bookmarks as you wish. If required it is also possible to sync Firefox bookmarks between another device also running Firefox.
Note Firefox bookmarks are stored in a database file within the Firefox profile. Firefox does not use an HTML favourites file, although it is capable of backing-up favourites as an html File.
    See
    * [[Import Bookmarks from Internet Explorer]]
*[[How to use bookmarks to save and organize your favorite websites]]
*[[Firefox Sync - Take your bookmarks, tabs and personal information with you]]
Note when HTML bookmarks are imported Firefox adds them to any existing bookmarks. (CARE the ordinary backups overwrite anything that is already existing - always manually backup your bookmarks before doing any restore of bookmarks).

  • I have on iPad iPhoto, how do i import to my mac the albums that i created on the iPad iPhoto?

I have on iPad iPhoto, how do i import to my mac the albums that i created on the iPad iPhoto?

Here's a Mac World article that may help. Still not perfect but will help transfer edited photos. If done in groups you can re-create the Albums on the Mac.
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2010727/the-ultimate-iphoto-workflow.html
Basically the process requires "Sharing to iTunes" through the iPad's app then syncing with iTunes. The shared photos will be found in the File Sharing section of the Apps tab of it's sync settings, not the Photos syncing tab.
The other method is to save your edited photos to Camera Roll and import through iPhoto on the Mac or Photo Stream. Once again you'll need to do it in groups to save your Albums then recreate them on the Mac.
I should also mention I have yet to use iPhoto on the iPad and there could very well be a better method out there. I have been researching for the best work flow to copy photos from my iPad which will be copied to the iPad with the camera connection kit, organized and edited on the iPad then copied in that state to my Mac once I get home. I like the idea behind Photo Journals while traveling and was disappointed to find they can not be saved, backed up or viewed through iPhoto on the Mac. I'm sure there are easier work flows but this is probably close to the route I will be taking.
    Any other input?

How can i cancel my att contract for ipad2 that i bought it from online store to use it in europe?

You don't have a contract with AT&T for an iPad. If you signed up for an AT&T data plan (only possible from the iPad itself, to the best of my knowledge) AT&T's iPad plan is a month-to-month and can be cancelled at any time through the same settings you used to sign up.
