How do I import bookmarks from safari? I am using firefox 7.0.1 with apple lion 10.7.2

The "Import" option is gone with Firefox 7.0.1. I sure would like to be able to import all my bookmarks from Safari

I don't know if you have saved bookmarks since original Firefox install., but importing bookmarks later will add them all the end of the "Bookmarks Menu": you will have to
move the content of the bookmarks toolbar however it is called in IE to your "Bookmarks Toolbar" the rest of your bookmarks you want to move to "Bookmarks Menu" especially if they are organized into folders.
Bookmarks menu > Show All Bookmarks (Ctrl+Shift+B) > Import > from Internet Explorer
Having Firefox as the default browser is needed which you recognized, but since IE had been you default browser you must tell IE to check to see if it is the default browser, it will test to see if it is and find that is not. Refuse the request to make IE the default broswer and you should be okay.

  • How do I import bookmarks from Safari on a Mac?

I have a Mac (OS X 10.6.8) and it's version of Safari (5.1.1 (6534.51.22)) has a full compliment of bookmarks, which I would like to import into Firefox for Mac 7.0.1. However, the documentation I can find is (a) out out of maintenance an (b) refers to a pulldown option on the File menu, which does not appear on my version of Firefox.

  • Cannot import bookmarks from Safari because "import" option is NOT highlighted (not available). Why?

    MacBook Pro - FireFox 4
I was able in the past (earlier FireFox versions) to import bookmarks from Safari when clicking on the "Organize Bookmarks." This now is not available. Instead, under "file" there is an "import" option but it is NOT highlighted, i.e., it is not available for clicking. How do you import bookmarks from Safari (or any other browser) after you have used FireFox for a while. i.e., not when you first set it up, but later?

"Organize Bookmarks" has been renamed to "Show All Bookmarks" in the bookmarks menu.
The option to import can be disabled if you are in private browsing mode. To stop Firefox opening in private browsing mode do this:
    # Open the Preferences window and go to the Privacy panel
    # Change the setting "Firefox will" to "Remember history", alternatively if you set it to "Use custom settings for history", de-select the setting "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

  • I have imported bookmarks from Safari to Firefox but the bookmarks bar does not change in Firefox and match that of Safari. That's the part I need most. Any ideas why? Also, I don't see where to choose for Firefox to be my default browser.

I use a Imac with OS 10.6.7. I've just uploaded Firefox 4. I had Firefox 3 already but do not use it often. I've been using Safari. I imported bookmarks from Safari to Firefox, but the bookmarks bar in Firefox did not change to match that of Safari, and that's where the important bookmarks are. Any ideas?
Also, I can't find where to choose Firefox as my default browser.

Copy the files from the old Profile into the new Profile, replacing the existing files that are in the new Profile. That will make your new installation just like the old one.
Or if you just want your bookmarks, copy only the '''places.sqlite''' file from the old Profile into the new Profile.

  • Cannot import bookmarks from Safari on a Mac because "import" under the file menu is grayed out.

To import bookmarks from Safari on a Mac following the instructions for the import wizard, I am to select "import" under the Firefox file menu, but "import" is grayed out, so I cannot select it.

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode. In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links and disabled and not available.
    * You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed.
    See [[Private Browsing]] and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_Private_Browsing
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting '''Firefox will: Use custom settings for history'''
    * Uncheck: [[ ] "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session"

  • Firefox 15.0.1 cannot import bookmarks from Safari 6.0.1

    Hello,
Firefox 15.0.1 cannot import bookmarks from Safari 6.0.1.
I have followed the steps below:
    1) Export all Safari bookmarks to an HTML file (File --> Export Bookmarks)
    2) Import bookmarks into Firefox (Bookmarks --> Show all bookmarks --> Import and Backup --> Import Bookmarks from HTML)
Firefox seems to load the HTML file, but the bookmarks never show up in Firefox.
Any thoughts about why this is happening?
    Best,
    Jaime.-

  • How do I import Bookmarks from Firefox 28.0 into Firefox 29.0.1?

How do I import Bookmarks from Firefox 28.0 into Firefox 29.0.1? I am running OS X 10.7.5 and just updated Firefox from 28.0 to 29.0.1. How do I import my old 28.0 bookmarks into 29.0.1? I've tried all the suggestions but nothing works. WHERE are my old bookmarks? Help, please!

Your bookmarks can be imported and exported from the Library (Bookmarks Manager).
*Go to the clipboard icon, click Show All Bookmarks <i>OR</i> press Cmd + Shift + B
*Once there, you'll see Import and Backup (see screenshot), you have a choice to choose between backing up as a JSON (Import and Backup -> Backup) or HTML (Import and Backup - > Export bookmarks to HTML)
Once this is done and the file has been backed up, you can import them using the same method (Import & Backup -> Backup for JSON/Import & Backup -> Import bookmarks from HTML (HTML)
One of our awesome contributors explained the difference between a JSON backup and a HTML backup that is very explanatory:
Restoring a JSON backup will replace all your current bookmarks (you get a warning about that), so if you already have bookmarks that you wish to keep then export them to an HTML file before restoring the JSON backup.
You can import that HTML file after you have restored the JSON backup to get your current bookmarks back (you need to remove duplicates).
You can't import a JSON backup to add (merge) bookmarks.
Importing bookmarks from an HTML file adds the imported bookmarks to the already existing bookmarks, so you may need to remove duplicates.
An HTML backup doesn't support tags and annotations, so if you want to preserve those then you need to use a JSON backup.
A JSON backup doesn't preserve the website favicons, so you need to visit a website to get back that favicon.

Do you have Windows 7 or XP? If you have Win7, install the iCloud control panel for Windows and set it up there (Ignore the fact that it shows IE in the control panel, once you check it off, you'll be able to select Safari).
If you have Windows XP, you don't.

  • How to import bookmarks from iPhone to Mac using iTunes?

Can anyone tell me how to import bookmarks from an iPhone onto my desktop (iMac)? All of our bookmarks were accidentally deleted from our mini mac, which then deleted them from our desktop with iCloud. My wife has all the bookmarks on her phone but we can't figure out how to sync them. The only info we could find was to click the info button on iTunes and then sync, but there is no info button. Any help?

If you have OS X 10.9 Mavericks, then at this time there is no direct syncing of bookmarks, contacts nor calendar items between a Mac and an iOS device. All synching is done via iCloud. If there's another way to transfer your bookmarks from the iPhone to your Mac, I'm not aware of it, unless there's a third-party browser for the iPhone that could import the bookmarks from Safari and then transfer them by some other method. But if you set your wife's iPhone up to your iCloud account, that should then sync.
    Regards.
