Here is one way to do it, although you will see there could be variations.
1) Open iMovie
2) Start a new project - name it Stills for iPhoto (or a name of your choice)
3) Go to your EVENT. Find the spot with the cursor that you want a photo of. Right-click (or control-click if you don't have a mouse) and select ADD STILL FRAME TO PROJECT.
4) The photo should be in the Project called Stills for iPhoto.
5) Right-click (control-click) on the photo and select REVEAL IN FINDER.
6)When the finder window opens, right-click and select COPY. Go to your Desktop or a folder of your choice and right-click PASTE
7) Drag the photo from your Desktop to iPhoto

Prior to updating to Lion, when viewing photo attachments within Apple Mail, I could do a quick preview of attached photo(s) within the email and click an iPhoto icon that would import the photos into iPhoto. Something has changed now when selecting "Quick Look" I do not get an option to send the photo to iPhoto. Am I missing somthing or is this feature no longer available with Lion/Mail?

Not sure if this helps or not. I recently installed Lion for my mother, and she couldn't figure out how to export photos in an email to iPhoto. Turns out she had to click on Details in the upper right corner of the email message. Then the Save and Quick Look buttons returned. If you click and hold on Save (possibly on the triangle on the right side of the button) there is an option to save to iPhoto.
I haven't upgraded to Lion myself yet so I can't answer your specific question regarding saving to iPhoto from the Quick Look preview.

I may be preaching to the choir here but this might be of help to you:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.

2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done. 3 - however, if you get the navigation window

that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 or later the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:

I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:

NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (click on the Edit button) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.

Has been awhile since I worked in Corel (so do not remeber if Corel had clipboard settings whcih need adjusuting), but do remember copying a path, getting that into Phothshop as shape layer for part of the artowrk in a trade show poster.

I have an edited movie project that was 17 mins long on my mini iPad. Because it was over 15 mins long I couldn't share it into iMovie theatre on my mini iPad. Thanks for getting back with me so promptly. It has taken me this time to connect with the proper people to find out the information you requested.
The camera used to film the class was a Panasonic AG-HMC40P, owned by a local cable TV station; they use Kodak video encoding software, and a SD card was used to store the video. The file extension is .mts, and the mime file is MPEG 2 transport. He said I probably need an AVCHD converter, and the Mac app store lists 8 of those options, 4 free and 4 for up to $9.99. He said I'll also need a converter for later plans of posting on YouTube or on the website, and while some of those in the app store might work for the later needs, he knows one app called "Compressor" that would work for the uploading later. He also suggested I could try renaming the .mts file to .MP2T, but he wasn't sure that would work.
They don't work with Macs at the studio, but I had thought I could have some lessons there in editing, and apply what I learned to my iMac and iMovie.
First, though, I have to be able to see it and review it!

I created a dedicated file into which I copied and pasted the project from "package contents" but it was still greyed out when I went to retrieve it. Babowa It appears that in imovie everything has to be "finalised" before it can be used or shared elsewhere in the same way as a disk has to be to be played elsewhere. You will need an application that can convert those pcd files into one that iPhoto supports, mainly jpeg. GraphicConverter is supposed to support many, many formats and might just support the pcd. If so you could use it to convert them to jpegs.
There's an automator workflow that I've put into an application that will take many image files and convert them into jpeg with the RGB color profile. I've never tried it on the Kodak files but you can give it a try. It's called +*Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile*+ and can be downloaded from Toad's Cellar. Make a copy of a couple of files and see if it will work. If so then you can batch convert folders of the files at once by dragging them onto the application.
I believe GC can do batch conversions but am not familiar with the application.

I have copied exisiting photos from my old PC into the Mac Pro in various folders and now want to import them into iPhoto. However, it seems when I do that, I end up with duplicate files .... with the original in a /pictures/folder and the iPhoto version buried deep in a master folder in the iPhoto library. Is there a way I can easily import these existing photos into iPhoto without ending up with duplicates? I realize it's better to have two copies than one but will actually have two or three back up copies too. Any advice appreciated! thanks!

That is how it is supposed to work. iPhoto will be the photo manager and will also manage all image files. If you are using iPhoto forget about the extra folders with image files in Pictures and use only iPhoto to access the photos.

If you do not want a photo manager and prefer the Finder, use PICASA. But give iPhoto a chance. It is very versatile and in the long run much saver than letting image files sitting around in open folders. You have always access to your photos from other applications using the provided tools, like the Media Browser.
