How do I Import Mail Contacts from MS Outlook to Mac Mail? MacMini OSX 10.9 Mavericks

Hi I am using OSX 10.9 Mavericks.  I have been trying to export my People Contcts list from MS Outlook to Mac Mail, can anyone help? Thanks

Ed,
the simplest solution is to convert your Outlook PST file to standard mbox files using Thunderbird - TB on the PC imports Outlook data just fine and - unlike the other proposed solution - is free. When you install TB on your PC for the first time, it will ask you to import your Outlook data.
Once you have all your mail messages in mbox format, you can import them into Mail. However, instead of using Mail's "Import" feature to do so, I would propose you use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner for this - the program can also import TB mailboxes to Apple Mail and will preserve all your message status flags (read, replied, ...):

To get the contacts from your Hotmail and exchange accounts into iCloud, do the following:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup.  (If you have more than 500 contacts to transfer from your external accounts you will need the “Pro” version.)  Use the app to back up the remaining contacts on your phone as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section), and set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your Hotmail and exchange accounts and turn off contacts syncing with with these accounts.  If you don't you will see duplicates of your contacts (one from the external account and one from iCloud).
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the external accounts back to your phone, and to iCloud.  Go to icloud.com to confirm they are there.

Time Machine is a back up you have to set up to back up before there is a problem like a hard drive failure.
It is possible to recover files from a failed drive, but it is an expensive proposition.
There is a faint hope that an app like Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro might repair the drive. You could try making an appointment at an Apple store and ask a technician there to take a look... the diagnosis will not cost you.

  • How do you delete the contacts from "All on My Mac"

How do you delete the contacts from "All on My Mac"? i have moved everything to iCloud and want to delete the contacts on my mac.

Signing out will not delete them from iCloud. Do it and read the message. It will give you the option to store address book contacts locally or just in iCloud. It will tell you that they will be available in iCloud when you sign back in.
In Addition, signing your mac out of iCloud does not sign your other devices out of iCloud. Any info in iCloud will still be available to other devices.
You can also access iCloud from the website https://www.icloud.com , which you can access from any computer at any time.

  • How to transfer emails from PC/Outlook to Mac/Mail

I just bought MacBookPros and iPads for my small business.  After many many hours, i was ensured that the iCloud/Mac combo was the solution for me.  It has turned out to be extremely difficulat migrating from PC/Outlook.
I will not get in to details now, but after 27 hours, we have finally been able to migrate our files and emails over.  However, my sub-folders in my Outlook Inbox that i have created over the years did not migrate over.  All my emails in my inbox did, but not the subfolders.  How can i transfer those over from my PC/Outlook to my Mac/Mail?

Looking at other posts (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2664208?start=60&tstart=0) this is what I found to be a helpful answer for many:
This is by far the easiest and risk-free way to do this that I found.  I've made a few switches in the past 12 months after changing from Windows, thinking Outlook would be the best option and now regretting it I wanted to change back.  No need to buy add-ons or software, apply for gmail or anything else outside of your Mac.
Drag all your mail folders from Outlook onto your desktop and then you can bulk select them through the Import Mailbox option in the File menu in Mail.
    Thanks JChp53!
    JChp53 wrote:
There is a longish way to do this.
In Outlook, Select the folder you want to move (If there are folders within the folder, you have to select each individual subfolder, as the subfolders won't copy along with the main folder, only the messages in the folder will copy). Click and drag the selected folder (ex: inbox folder) to a new folder on your desktop. I couldn't figure out a way to select all the folders, so i dragged each folder and subfolder from Outlook into the folder on the desktop. Once you're done copying all the Outlook folders, open up Mac Mail. Go to File --> import mailboxes. Then select "Files in mbox format" and click continue. Then select desktop, and the folder you dragged all of your Outlook folders into. Hit "Choose." Mac Mail will import all of these folders, and when it's finished, will tell you that they are under the folder labeled "imports" in Mac Mail, and you just have to move all your subfolders back into their main folders.
Like I said, it takes a little while longer than I would like, but it worked for me and now I have all my old mail from Outlook in Mac Mail.
Hope that helps (and that I explained right)!

  • How do I sync my contacts from my phone and Mac?

How do I sync my contacts from my iPhone and my Mac?

    Mike G. wrote:
As far as I can tell this has been disabled in Mavericks (and possibly slightly earlier). Apple now wants you to get an iCloud account and upload all of your contacts to their server.
The way this works is: 1. create an icloud accout 2. set up your mac to sync its contacts with that icloud account 3. set up your iphone to sync its contacts with that same icloud account. (Be careful when synching the first time that you don't overwrite the device's contacts with the initially blank set of clontacts in icloud). The result is that you have synched the contacts between your iphone and your mac (and Apple gets a copy as well).
    -Mike
Now I understand. In step #2 above "set up your mac to sync its contacts with that icloud account" means "select all the 'on my mac' contacts and drag them onto the iCloud account so that they become iCloud contacts". There is no "setting" to sync "on my mac" contacts to iCloud.
As I tried to note on another thread about this where I was, unfortunately, openly mocked for having difficulty with it, this doesn't always go as smoothly as one would like and it can, at times, appear that you can't drag a contact from "on my mac" to iCloud.
I have several hundred google contacts and several hundred "on my mac" contacts, as well as the iCloud acount. (A consequence of being a very long time Apple user and a very reluctant iCloud adopter. Until a serious phone failure yesterday I'd always just had the contacts sync via iTunes and then grandfathered from phone to phone once that feature was removed by building the new phone from the old phone's back up.)
The Contacts app is in constant network communication with the google servers and the iCloud servers. When you're working with this many contacts at one time, network lag in those communications (is my best guess) can cause the application itself to cease to function in a quick and obvious way, often creating the appearance that you can't drag a particular contact (or group of contacts) from one place to another. You try to drag and nothing happens. You don't get an error or a warning, you don't get the situation where you can drag it but you can't get it to select a group (because the contact is already in there) you get nothing at all.
If this happens often enough it can lead one to believe that contacts must be moved individually and manually, but that is not the case. You just have to let your network connection catch up, and try again.
Also note that if you drag a group of contacts and some of them are already in iCloud you'll get a warning about potential duplicates. You'll get a set of choices about which one to keep, or both, or update. You can't actually see the contents of the two duplicates while you make this choice. If you get this warning, I would highly recommend choosing "cancel", confirming that your local copy is correct, complete and up to date, and then do the select and drag again and then pick the "update" option -- either nothing will happen because iCloud was also correct, complete and up to date, or you'll update iCloud, but nothing bad can happen that way.
I'm so glad they took away the direct syncing with the Contacts app via iTunes. This new method is so much easier to use

  • I am setting up a second gmail account. How do I import bookmarks , contacts from my old to my new account?

my new account is [email protected] and I would like to import the conatcts and the bookmarks to the new account.

'''First of all you should NEVER post your email in a public forum like this. - unless you really enjoy getting spammed, scammed and phished. Very dangerous too, as you open yourself up to password crackers who like to steal personal information from email accounts and use them to attack your contacts as well.'''
    Second, since Gmail is a Google service, this is a question for Google forums - but I can give you part of your answer now;
To transfer your contacts from Gmail to Gmail accounts:
    login to your Gmail account,
    click "contacts".
Then, @ the top right side of the contacts interface, you'll see an "export" option.
Click this and choose whether to export ALL contacts, "my contacts" (or most contacted).
Choose Google CSV if you're transferring to another Gmail account, then export, and be sure to save the file where you can find it from your new account.
Now log in to your new Gmail account,
go to "contacts" again, and choose "import"
Browse to the "csv" file you just saved
Decide if you want the contacts in a new group
then click import, and enter the name of the new group if you chose this.

  • How do I import my contacts from iCloud to my MacBook Pro?

I'm using OS X Yosemite 10.10.1, Safari 8.0.2. I want the contacts to stay on iCloud but I also want all of them to live on my laptop. Is there an easy way to do this or do I have to import each contact, one at a time? Please, oh, please let it be easy. I have a lot of contacts.

My contacts are on my iPhone, my Mac & iCloud. The only "Account" (Contacts Menu > Accounts or Apple Menu > System Preferences > Internet Accounts) where I have Contacts turned on is iCloud so the only tab I have in Contacts on my Mac is "All Contacts."
I do insure that I have backups because I think it is possible if unlikely that a problem originating with iCloud could cause a loss. In addition to Time Machine which does my backups I also periodically open the Contacts application and use the File Menu > Export Contacts Archive and keep that exported file (which also gets backed up by Time Machine). That's overkill, but I sleep well
