How do I import mailboxes into Mail v.3.5 from v.2.1.3?

Every time I try to import even a single mailbox from my PowerBook G4 (OS X 10.4) into my iMac (OS X 10.5) using the 'mbox files' setting the new version of Mail seizes up. I'm following the onscreen instructions for mbox and accessing the mailbox files in the G4 using file sharing, but when I choose either an mbox file or even an individual message the wheel starts turning "Searching for data" on and on, and clicking on the Mail icon in the dock shows that the application is "not responding".
What am I doing wrong?

Hello and welcome to the Discussions.
Importing a xxxx.mbox folder is a two step process. First you navigate only as far as an ordinary folder, and then click Choose. Then a list of available xxxx.mbox folder within that ordinary folder (which can be the original Mailboxes folder or copy) will be made available, and then you select and click the now offered Import button. When you import it, it will now be an On My Mac maibox, and then you will Move all the messages to your online Inbox.

  • Can't import mailboxes into Mail

I am trying to import my mailboxes into Mail from my time machine backup but it doesn't work. The backup is from 10.5 and I am now on 10.7. I can't access the old computer I only have time machine. I would also like to import my Address Book contacts. Any tips? Thanks

Restore the mailboxes to a different location, such as the Desktop, and import them into Mail (File > Import Mailboxes...) I haven't tried this myself and I don't know for sure that it will work.

  • Importing mailboxes into Mail from Entourage only partially works.

I am trying to import all my Entourage mailboxes into Mail.
[The background of this is that I want to upgrade to Lion, but my version of Office won't work in Lion and I don't want to pay for a new version, so I'm going to abandon Entourage and use Mail].
The process appears to work properly; there is no error message and Mail tells me that the mailboxes have been imported into a folder called Import.
However when I look at the Mail mailbozes, all teh messages are not there. The import has worked up to a point and then just stopped. By this I mean all the actual mailboxes (and sub mailboxes) are in place, tbut only the first 50% or so of the messages are there. (Admitedly, there are a large number of mesages in my mailboxes and the import has worked through them logically by alpahbetical order of mailboxes.)
I've also tried dragging the missing message across manually, but this doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

Well there are some suggested solutions on here if you search for them. Hoever, I eventually worked around it by just importing a section of my old email at a time. A bit tedious, but it worked.

  • How do you import songs into a new iTunes library from a Touch?

I downloaded iTunes on a new PC laptop but, I'm unable to import the songs that are on the Touch, to the new iTunes library.
The songs that are on the Touch are all iTunes purchased songs and these songs are based in a iTunes library that is on the old laptop that no longer works. iTunes on the old laptop cannot be accessed and there was no cd-dvd back up done for this library.
When the Touch is connected to iTunes on the new laptop, the songs on the Touch do appear in a music folder under the device heading which is fine but, because these songs can't be imported into the new library, they cannot be backed up as far as I know.
Otherwise, everything regarding iTunes is working as it should be on the new laptop.
Since I'm dealing only with iTunes purchased songs, iTunes, and a Apple device, there must be some way of adding the songs from the Touch into the new library.
I've done a Google search about this and any of the suggestions I've tried, haven't worked.
The OS on the new laptop, is Windows 7.
If someone can offer some help on this, it would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Your suggestions worked.
Had to do the authorize step first and then I was able to re-download the songs into the new library.
    Thanks

  • Problems importing Thunderbird Mailbox into Mail

I am having problems importing my Thunderbird mailboxes into Mail. I won't go into the many problems and issues I had to solve (but there were many) but would ask if anyone can help me solve the one I still have.
In Mail I used the Import Mailboxes command, located the Thunderbird profile in my Home directory and imported it. I may have done this some time ago, but in any case, when I decided to start using Mail as my main email client this week I only had emails up until 6th November 2008.
Now I find it impossible to import the rest of my Thunderbird Inbox - only the sub-folders show up and Mail does not let me import the emails in the main inbox.
How can I get the remaining emails?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
    Envelope Index
    ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Is it possible to import messages into Mail that are in .csv format?

Just in case my previous topic subject was preventing some folks from checking this out, I'lll try to ask my question in a more generic way.
I have an archive of a mailbox from another email program that I'm trying to move over to Apple Mail. My archive is saved as a .csv file. I can open the file in either Numbers, Excel, or TextEdit, and I can see that all the info is there. However, I want to be able to import these into Mail so that I can integrate these old messages with my other emails. I would want to be able to search for these messages using Mail's search tools and be able to identify messages based on who they're from, the subject line, date received, etc.
Specifically, this archive was exported out of Earthlink Total Access. My only options out of Earthlink were to export out as either .csv or a proprietary .dat file. I'm trying to figure out how to get the .csv file into Mail. I tried going through Entourage, but Entourage only imports contacts from a .csv file and not messages. I found a Unix utility that coverts a .csv to an mbox file (which Entourage would be able to import), but I'm not sure how to get it to work (I'm not that swift with Unix).

    Any brilliant ideas?

I too am trying to transfer Total Access messages into Mail and have stumbled at every attempt to use other software, such as Entourage and OE, as intermediaries. I would love to hear if you get any response to this question. I was able to transfer all the addresses, but not the messages.

Sync your old address book with the one on the iPod.  You may have to import them into an intermediate address book like Google contacts since that can be done by importing a file you should be able to export for your address book.  Without know your old address book that is all I can say.

  • Import trouble into Mail and Entourage

    Hi All,
Just swtiched to Mac from a PC and I am trying hard to get my Outlook files from my PC imported into Entourage. I've been using the system where your first import the Outlook files into Netscape 7.2, transfer the folder to the Mac, and then important into Mail (eventually into Entourage).
Here's the issue: When I do the import into Mail from the Netscape export, only ONE e-mail shows up in each of my imported folders (some should have thousands of messages). I've tried several times and I can't figure out what is wrong...nor can I seem to find any evidence of anyone else having this problem.
I checked the Netscape export files and they are very large on my big e-mail folders, so I know the data is there.
Please help...I will be very grateful for any assistance!
    Warmly,
    Dave Stachowiak

    Hi Dave.
I don’t know whether it would matter, but I’d use Thunderbird instead of Netscape as the intermediate mail client.
Also (and this does matter), you’d get better results using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion.
Eudora Mailbox Cleaner requires rebuilding the imported mailboxes in Mail afterwards, but instead of rebuilding them one by one, you can re-create the entire index as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

Possibly. Media Go supports a variety of music formats, some of which can be imported in to iTunes and then synced on to an iPhone, however some of its formats cannot be imported in to iTunes.
See http://mediago.sony.com/enu/supported-file-formats/ for a list of formats supported by Media Go. iTunes for Windows supports MP3, AAC, WAV, and can import and convert WMA files as well. However iTunes does not support ATRAC, or FLAC.
Furthermore, if some of your music has been bought from an Internet music store it might be procted by DRM. If so it cannot be imported in to iTunes.
To do the importing you would either drag the music files in to iTunes, or tell iTunes to open them. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347

  • If I had a font I used in CS6, how do I import it into CC?

If I had a font I used in CS6, how do I import it into CC?

    No worries.
If you are using a font manager, it will either have an activate or install option in it. The help file for the particular font manager likely has the process written down.
If you are not using a font manager, then depending upon your OS, you simply install them. I am using Windows and so installing a font is as easy as right-clicking on the font file and choosing install. I have no idea how to installa  font on a Mac if that's what you are using. Either OS font installation can easily be Googled, though, if you are not sure.
