How do I import message rules, etc. to Mail?

I'm moving from an MBP with Snow Leopard to a new one running Yosemite. I use Apple Mail for my email client.  I have all my email accounts set up on the new computer, and it's downloading messages..  and all the old Mailboxes survived the migration-- but there's nothing in them.
How do I
1- import the  Message rules to Yosemite's Mail, I have the MessageRules.plist but can't find a Library to put them in! is there another way?
2- Is there a way to import the messages filtered into the mailboxes on the old MBP? The computer has downloaded all the non-filtered ones, but the new ones leave the inbox and so they're not on the new computer.
3- is there a way to set up these mailboxes and rules/ filters on my mobile devices? I have an old iPhone4 running iOS7 and a iPad2 with iOS8.
I use Gmail for most of my mail, but don't much like the UI, I prefer Mails. I monitor 4 Gmail accounts plus the iCloud and 1 with my own domain.
many thanks for any help

Without this capability, which I can't find, it seems that mail collected by the iPhone isn't visible on the mackbook.
If you setup your iCloud mail on all of your devices/computers, it will behave just like any IMAP account will. As for mail rules, not possible on any iPhone. Read here:

  • Import messages from thuinderbird to Mail

I am trying to import my messages from thunderbird 3.1 to _Mail 4.4._ The import procedure suggested from Mail app doesn't work correctly because it leaves several messages without importing them.
I even tried to rename thunderbird's mailboxes to .mbox and import them again but the result was the same.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
    Thank you

OK I did manage to export my messages to a folder as .eml files, but how can I import then into Mail?
If I double click on each one it opens in Mail (default email client) and then I am able to move it wherever I want.
But I can't do this with all my messages... (1000 emails)
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you

  • How do I import an .eml file into Mail

I have a .eml file, which was orginally an email message in Mail, which I saved onto my desktop, "saved as" a raw message source out of Mail a while ago. Now I want to import it back into my Mail program but it won't accept it. Does anyone know how I can get the file back into Mail?
    null

If it's saved as Raw Source, it's not a .eml file anymore. Unless Apple changed them again in 10.5.x, Mail saves messages as .emlx files.
So, you can download this tool, emlx to mbox Converter to convert individual messages or whole groups to mbox files and import those into Mail (you need to choose Other when the dialog window asks "Import data from").
If the Mail file format really did change in 10.5.x to .eml, here's a similar tool to convert multiple eml files to mbox format: eml2mbox. This is a Ruby script, not an application.

The Part interface that the Message class implements describes 3 ways for getting the content of a message. To use an Input Stream, you can call the getInputStream() method on the message itself, rather than System.in.

I have .pst files on an external hard drive (FAT 32), and no access to a Windows OS.  How do I import into mac mail?

From the details provided, it appears to me that your Mac Mail should be able to attach the file without any problem. If you can do that then you are going to have to provide more detail for us to help you.

  • How do I import a Thunderbird inbox using Mail.app?

    Hi all:)
I've managed to convince my mother she should get a Mac, and so far she's loving it. The only problem is that I can't import her emails from Thunderbird (Windows version) onto Mail.app. I followed the instructions on the Mozilla website (http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq.html#export) for exporting emails, but Mail insists that those are not compatible .mbox files.
I then found this article (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050402143519725) on Mac OS X Hints, but even following its instructions, I couldn't work it out (Mail kept giving me the same error).
Does anyone know how to import Thunderbird's inbox onto Mail? Any help it appreciated
    Cheers
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel.
It isn’t clear what the problem really is with the information you’ve provided — what does “Mail insists that those are not compatible .mbox files” mean?
Anyway, you’d get better results using Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion. Eudora Mailbox Cleaner requires rebuilding the imported mailboxes in Mail afterwards, but instead of rebuilding them one by one, you can re-create the entire index as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see any other “Envelope Index”-named file there, delete it as well.
    4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index — Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • How do delete all messages in my all mail folder?

Hi, I use gmail and want to delete the messages in my all mail folder. Whenever I empty my trash, the mail keeps popping up in my all mail folder. I don't like this!

hullabaloo, we appreciate this device info! Should definitely be possible. If you go to your Voicemail Box, you can select Delete>on the bottom right hand corner, the option to choose Delete All should appear. This way you can delete them much quicker.

  • What do i do when external optical drive doesn't show up in finder?  how can i import software, music, etc. when the drive isn't recognized/mounted/whatever?

the internal optical drive on my early 2006 20"imac has mechanical problems ejecting discs.  i've gone thru all the recommended steps to eject discs, and have luckily been able to eject the last 3 discs but only after spending 30-60 minutes going thru all of the steps over and over, and today just trying "eject disc" in itunes since i had itunes open.  i don't want to put another disc in - the drive clearly has problems with the mechanical eject mechanism, and from what i've read that's not unique to my computer.
i bought an external optical drive: lite on, clamshell design to avoid problems with the eject mechanism; i contacted the mfr who said it's mac compatible.
the drive plays dvds, which is all i've tried so far, but doesn't show up in finder.  so i don't know how to use it to load software, or music, or anything besides watch dvds.
is there something i can do to get the drive recognized/mounted/whatever?  i would prefer to not spend the $220 which was quoted to me by an authorized mac repair company, even tho i think that's probably a reasonable cost given the delicacy of the operation as shown on ifixit.com.
    thanks!

I have an external LaCie burner and it will not show up on my Mac unless I insert a CD or DVD - in that case, the media will show up (I have these settings in the Pref Pane):
If you want to burn files or music to blank media, you can use Finder or Disk Utility for files, but should use an iTunes playlist/iTunes for music and a movie burn app for videos/movies (such as iDVD, Roxio Toast, Burn, etc).
If you simply want to drag files over as a backup, an external hard drive is a much better solution than a burner.

  • How do I import .eml emails, etc. from Windows Mail 2011 (online version) to Lion mail program?

I have tried to find out how to import my stored .eml emails from my previous PC into my new Mac Mini Lion Mail program, so I will not lose them all.  I have tried going through Thunderbird, but all it keeps giving me for choices is Apple Mail and Eudora.  Then the Mail on the Mini only gives me choices that do not include the .eml files.  Please help!  I have a gazillion emails saved and don't want to lose them!  Thanks very much!

The export function from iCloud creates one single .vcf file with all the addresses in it. If you click on it on the desktop, it starts displaying each and every address as a separate vCard. However, "Tools/Import...Address Books...vCard file" doesn't do anything.

  • HT5361 How to move saved messages in outlook to mail

Could someone tell me how I can move all my saved messages from my Outlook into my mail as I wish to only use mail in future.
    Many thanks

I Wonder if your sitting there laughing at us as if there is some big conspiracy about selecti all and deleting all from our iPhones and iPads.
    The conspiracy.
Why can we not just not select all in the mail inbox and then delete all, if we do not want to delete every single one of them then deselect the few that we do not want to delete instead of having to select the thousands we do want delete individually.
And if you do make a mistake and delete the wrong emails by selecting all, then go to your trash and reinstate the ones you did not want to delete
I think 99% of us know how to DELETE emails individually, as you put it.
That's just sarcasm and if not then then your not fully understanding the question asked.
I would also say that probably 99% of us want to be able to select all and delete all if that's what we desire.
I would just like a honest answer of why we cannot select all delete all rather than giving me a load of rubbish about encase we delete something we didn't want to delete.
