How do I import my iMovie to iDVD so I can burn a DVD

I finished my iMovie HD 5.0.2 project and want to burn it to DVD 5.0.1. I know I have to go through iDVD, but it will not import when I click on "share." Apple walked me through this once, so I know it can be done, but I've brain-cramped. Please help! Thanks

When I try to "share" my IMovie project via "File", the process "fails", after a short time.  I am following the instuctions;  Click share>file>next > except it hasn't download to save.  The blue circle never completes its circle before I says it failed.  What am I doing wrong?

Are you trying to transfer it from the iPad to your desktop?  Have you tried AirDrop?

the image file copy and the horizontal

I am not quite sure what you are trying to do since you mention copying an image file. Let's start with an iMovie project and you now want to encode it. You have a choice of programs to do the encoding, Toast being one of them. If the video is less than 2 hours, iDVD offers more options and does a great job encoding the movie too. I use both programs. If this is the process you are trying to follow, then Toast 7 allows you to drag the iMovie project file directly into the Toast window (after selecting the Video tab)and it will locate the right file to encode. Set the various options for menus, etc. and then go. Usually, it is best to Save As Disc Image, and then burn the DVDs later from the image file again with Toast using the Copy tab (copy image file selection). If I create the image file with iDVD, I still use Toast to burn the DVDs. Toast 7 works great with iMovie 5, but I have not used it with iMovie 6. There could be some incompatibilities.

How do I import into IMovie from a cd?
I am trying to upload a movie from a cd but when I go into import movies no file shows up but yet I can view the movie in IDVD.

Remove the checkmarks for the songs you do not want.
To prevent songs from importing, click "no" after you insert the CD.
When the list of songs appears in the iTunes window, click to remove the checkmark next to any songs you don’t want to import.
To add the selected songs to your library, click Import CD near the top right of the iTunes window.

  • How do I fit my iMovie onto iDVD

I am trying to make a DVD. I set up the DVD ready to import my iMovie. I realized my movie is 27.8 GB because of all the clips! I compressed the movie to quick time (.mov) and it says 981.2 MB on disk. I then try putting this onto the iDVD, but it says it's still too big! And with it compressed this small form it's original size, it looks terrible. How do professional movies get burned onto a DVD and have it great quality? How can I make my movie still look good, but fit onto a 4.7 GB blank DVD+R, just like people burn real movies onto these exact same blank DVDs, but they look good?

While in iMovie HD, use the send to iDVD button. Customize the iDVD project. Keep the iMovie HD project under 2 hours unless you have anew Mac that can burn DL DVDs.
Use Verbatim DVD-R for best results.

Why can't I import old imovies into idvd?

I have 68 GB free and the movie is a small one. The iDVD file is on my hard drive and in the dock.
Today I found a work around for this problem.  While I cannot open the original movie, I can access the clips in the media folder.  I put the clips together and made a new movie.   And I can import this to iDVD by going to "share" in the menu and selecting iDVD.

  • How do i import an iMovie 08 project into Imovie 11?

How do i import an iMovie 08 project into Imovie 11?

I don't still have iMovie 08, but this method works in iMovie 11.
Go to...Home, movies, iMovie projects, find the project you want and right click and click "show package contents".
That will show a movie file and some other files. Drag the file to the desktop and rename it .mp4.
then go to iMovie, import, navigate to the mp4 file on your desktop and it will let you import to the events section and then you can add it to your movie.
Takes a lot longer to describe than to do. The quality seems to be preserved though I don't know if titles etc get transferred over, kind of doubt it.

  • DVD created in iMovie and iDVD appears cropped when played in DVD player

    Hi all.
I have created a MPEG4 movie in iMovie 5 and exported it to iDVD 5 and brunt it to DVD (PAL). Now, when I play it in a DVD Player it appears to be cropped or zoomed in a bit. But when it is played through computer DVD player it works perfectly.
I have fiddled with settings and tried it in a few different DVD Players (PS3 made it worse!) but to no avail.
I cannot for the life of me work out what it happening. I haven't changed any settings in iMovie or iDVD because I can't find anything to change.
    Please help me!!!

    Hi
Most certainly nothing to do with either iMovie or iDVD if viewed on a TV (CRT)
Old TVs had to have what's called an OverScann (about 10% isn't viewable) but when
such material is played back on a Mac or LCD screen one will see all strange lines
and dotted bands that Text-TV uses etc.
To be able to get a perfect match:
    • Nobody can't - different TV set's varies
    • You can adjust to a specific TV but then You need FinalCut and by trial and error
get the precise shrinking of Your movie.

  • How can I reclaim memory/storage so I can burn a DVD with iDVD?

How can I reclaim memory/storage so I can burn a DVD with iDVD?

Move your iPhoto Library and/or your iTunes library to and external HD that is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and run them from there. Be sure to try the libraries on the EHD before you delete them from the boot drive.
This should easily free up the 25 GB minimum needed for iDVD to create and burn video DVD efficiently.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

to create standard-conform DVDs = playable on any DVDplayer, there's much more to do than just converting to mpeg(2)...-
you need a DVD-authoring app, as iDVD, Burn, Toast ........... drag any iMovie export into it, 'burn'.

  • What software do I need so i can burn a DVD from iMovies?

I simply want to burn a DVD from my iMovies and send to another party to be able to play on their computer or DVD.

Apple don't want you to do that.
The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.
