How do I import photos from another iPhoto library?

Hi. I'm trying to consolidate photos from three macbooks into one central iphoto library on a new mac mini. I started by copying the iphoto library of the largest onto the new mac mini and replaced the existing (empty) library on the new mini. All is good - that's one macbook down.
How do I import the photos from the other two though? I attempted to bring them over using File -> Import to Library, but when I navigate to the iphoto libraries of the other macbooks, the iPhoto library itself is greyed out so I can't select it.
I want to import the photos, events, albums, etc.
Any way to do this?
Thanks for any assistance.

Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
I want to import the photos, events, albums, etc.
So you want to merge the libraries? The only way to do that is with the paid ($20) version of  iPhoto Library Manager

Have you used the built-in migration plug-in? I'm not sure how LR handles iPhoto albums or events. there have been several reports indicating varying levels of success or otherwise, with import.
See my comments on this similar thread which also has a link to users comments on the LR journal blog.

Sounds like an issue with the iPhoto Library
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How do I burn photos from an iPhoto library album to a CD disk as jpegs?

How do I burn photos from an iPhoto library album to a CD disk as jpeg files? I'm wanting to burn the iPhoto library exactly as it appears in the "album", so they appear as jpegs, so you can't tell that the files have been edited in iPhoto. (I have edited some of the photos in iPhoto.)
I tried this using the "share/burn" menu option, however, it included the original files, which defeats the purpose of editing them.
    Any suggestions?

Select the pics in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pics to a folder on the desktop. Burn that to CD with the Finder.

  • How do I add photos from one iphoto library to another library

I own 2 macs and want to take the photos from one library and add them to a different library on a different Mac.  How do I do it?  I've copied the iphoto library from computer 1 to computer 2 but haven't yet done anything with the file.

Best solution is to use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to move photos between libraries
You can move one version of the image with selected metadata by exporting from one library and importing it to the other library - Exporting From iPhoto

  • Import events from another iPhoto library?

I recently went on vacation, and took my laptop with. During the trip I downloaded the photos from our camera's SD cards, but did not delete the photos, so we had a backup on the laptop and on the cameras. The events came in with no issues to the laptop. They're nicely organized and I have properly lablled them so we know what is form where...
When I got home I took the SD cards and downloaded the photos to my Desktop Mac, but it was a different story. It downloaded the photos from the SD cards, but duplicated numerous events and made it very hard to orgaize.
For example one event is labelled "July 32, 2012' and another "July 23-24, 2012". The latter consists of all the photos from the earlier event plus two photos taken on the 24th.
I have confirmed that iPhoto did indeed duplicate the downloads, by searching for and finding the original JPG files with the find command in Terminal:
    find ./ -name DSCN1219* -print
    .//Pictures/iPhoto Library/Masters/2012/07/28/20120728-141002/DSCN1219.JPG
    .//Pictures/iPhoto Library/Masters/2012/07/28/20120728-164601/DSCN1219.JPG
    This is the same photo.
What I'd like to do is just delete all the events from my Desktop and simply import the much better organized events from my laptop. Both are running the same version of iPhoto.

If you want to move Events, plus all associated metadata and versions then you'll need to use
iPhoto Library Manager for the job.
If you have the most recent versions of iPhoto and Aperture you can also do this via Aperture.

  • Importing photos from old iphoto library

i created a new library in iphoto (iphoto library 02) and would like to import specific photos (events) from my old iphoto library (iphoto library 01) into the new. I can import all, but that is not what I want. I want to be able to pick and choose photos. Could there be another place my photos are stored or are they all in iphoto library which is grayed out. All help is appreciated.
    thank you

Hi, and welcome to the forums!
I'm no expert with iPhoto, but I think you just drag the ones you want on the right, to where you want them on the left.
It works with Albums anyway, or Library to Albums.

  • Importing photos from shared iPhoto library

I have all my photos on my Macbook and have home sharing set up to share that iPhoto library with my iMac (within iPhoto…easy enough). Does anyone know if it's possible, from iMovie on my iMac, to access that shared iPhoto library on my Macbook to select photos to add to an iMovie project on my iMac?
I hope that's not confusing. And you might ask why I don't just do the project on my Macbook. I could, it's just a little more user friendly to work on my iMac.
    Thanks!

    Two ways to do this:
    1. Export from the other library to the finder using the File -> Export command. In the dialogue be sure to tick the box at 'Titles and Descriptions., then import to your Library
    2. Use iPhoto Library Manager to move the files plus all associated versions and metadata between libraries.

  • How Do I Import photos from my iPhotos to my MacBook Air?

    Hi All,
I imported the photos in my iPod camera to my MacAir.  I discovered that I still have photos in my iPod iPhotos.  I can't figure out how to import all of those photos onto my MacAir.  What's steps must I take in order to complete this task?

    Hey Illaass,
I was in the process of trying to delete those photos, but I have a question.  I'm in TouchCopy and I clicked on the "Files" in order to trash those pics.  I noticed that there are two files: PhotoData and Photos.  Is the Photos file just my pics on the iPod?  If so, is this the file I would delete in order to clean out my iPhotos?  I would hate to hit the Delete button only to discover that I actually cleared my entire photo library on my Mac.
Thanks for your time and advice.

  • How do i recover photos from my iPhoto library using my time capsule?

I have a shared time capsule between my iMac and Macbook pro.  Now that my Macbook pro's hardrive was replaced I lost all my pictures at iphoto.  I am trying to locate them from my Time capsule. Help.

Don't confuse "Time Capsule", an Apple Wi-Fi base station, with "Time Machine", backup software included with OS X since version 10.5.
What you want to do is to recover files from Time Machine backups on your Time Capsule.  Start by mounting the mounting the disk drive in the Time Capsule, probably still called "Data".  Look in the "Data" volume for a "sparsebundle" named after the MacBook Pro.  Mount that.  Then click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock and select "Browse Other Time Machine Disks".  Select the old backup, then navigate to the iPhoto backup.

  • How to import photos from multiple iphoto libraries to iPad

How do I import photos from multiple iPhoto libraries from my iMac to the new iPad? I have 4 different iPhoto Libraries on my iMac.
I can import photos from  iPhoto library 1,  to the iPad, but when I import photos from iPhoto Library 2, created on my iMac to the iPad,
it deletes the original photos that I imported from the first iPhoto Library and replaces them with the import from library 2.
I only want to import selected photos from each library to my iPad. Can someone plese help me?

As Ralph has suggested, if you want to sync photos from your computer, you must include all photos that you want to sync - with each and every sync. You cannot import photos from another Main photo folder on the computer. You must create an all-in-one photo library in iPhoto and sync from that folder. You can select one level of sub folders from within that main folder, but all of those folders must be included in the main folder - in your case it is in iPhoto. That is just how the sync process works with Photos.
I don't know how using third party apps affects the photos that you have already synced from iPhoto, but take a look at these apps in this Google search. Maybe Wifi transfer is the way to go for you.
