How do I ingest Sony FS7 footage into Premiere Pro?
Hi! I was told the Sony FS7 footage can natively ingest into Premiere. But my footage is crashing every time I try to import. Any ideas?
Perhaps depends on the camera. I've ,,, in my little experience ... come across some that was. Don't remember which brand/camera was used ... but it was a total stopper. It was the first AVCHD I'd worked with, and I copied (as is not uncommon for the uninitiated) the folders that seemed to have actual video content. Finally got VLC to play it from my computer, but it was only video ... so after a bit of learning over the net, figured out the error of my ways. Sure enough, soon as I added the folder that seemed to have something odd in it but not video ... I had sound. And from the things I've seen around here with the problems of those that have trouble with sound in AVCHD (among other things) ... perhaps I'd just assumed the same thing applied universally.
I've done only a little AVCHD with my GH3, just enough to test out the comments from others that the AVCHD was noisier than the MOV files ... which, yes, they are. Not terribly, but ... MOV is simpler to work with, why shoot a noisier codec?

PrPro should work natively with the Canon C100 footage ... it works with almost everything out there. And with the C100 shooting MP-4, AVCHD, & H.264, those are all handled easily by PrPro.
My question ... I would surmise (from what little info you include) you are shooting AVCHD? The reason I say this is that format splits audio & video into different files ... so it's a bit trickier to "import" than others that have the a & v in one file. Make sure you copied the whole top-leveL FOLDER and all sub-folders (not just the footage or contents of a folder) from the cam/card into the computer for AVCHD ... and then when you import into a project via the media browser your audio & video should be all connected by PrPro.
There have been numerous threads here where AVCHD users have "lost" their audio, only to find they'd simply left it behind by NOT copying all the folders & subfolders their camera had created. -

Premiere Pro CS6 doesn't support MKV formats. To import MKV to Premiere Pro CS6, a recommended solution is to convert MKV to AVI.
I've been reading so many different forums on how to convert MKV to AVI. Finally, I summarised three solutions:
First one: HandBrake . This tool is a free and open-source multi-threaded transcoding app. It supports nearly any videos including MKV format and has Mac version and Windows version.
Cons:
1. HandBrake is too professional to handle for most people;
2. It doesn't support MOV as output format.
Second one: there are many third party software which supports converting MKV to AVI. I just test one of them. It's professional yet easy to use and the service is excellent. And there is a step by step guide about how to use this tool .
Cons:
1. Most of them are not free.
Third one: Online-Converter . This kind of converter does a great job on file conversion.
Cons:
1. Like most online converters, the free version of this tool only allows you to convert videos smaller than 100MB. It's too small for video conversion;
2.Your MKV video should be upload to the internet to be converted. This means the risk of pravite information leak is possible. -

Importing DVC PRO 50 footage into Premiere Pro
I recently imported some DVC PRO 50 footage into Premiere Pro. I used a rented DVC PRO 50 deck via firewire 400. The footage came in at 480 x 720. Is this the actual resolution of that format or is it the default setting in the Premiere Pro import module? A few months ago, I imported some HD footage from a tape format using the videographer's camera via Firewire. It also came in at 720 even though it was supposed to be 1080 footage. Is there a way to set a target resolution in the PP import module before importing? Or does it bring in whatever resolution the source has?
DVCPRO50 is standard definition footage at 50Mbps. So 720x480 is correct.

So why would so many of the small software companies, in competition with Adobe, have recognized the importance of the format and come up with solutions to read and edit the format when Adobe has not?

I've been coming back to Adobe's web site for months hoping to find they are working on a solution and I have found nothing. I have been a huge fan of Adobe software for years and have pumped many a pay check in keeping my Adobe software current, the most recent being the purchase of the CS3 Master Suite. I'm not trying to bash the company but Adobe if your listening I really want to know want to know what the real story is. This goes beyond the "we are just busy and will get to it when can" statements I have been seeing on the adobe sites. I cannot figure out how to edit my h.264 footage in Premiere Pro. Please help.
I have been trying to import AVI video into Premiere pro CS5. I have a new Dell Laptop with Windows 7. Every time I try to import the video into Premiere it only shows up as audio files. However, Windows Media Player plays the files just fine. I've tryed converting the files with Media Encoder but that sees the files as only audio files as well. I've used the G Spot program and it tells me that the Codec is the H264 codec and that the name is H.264/MPEG-4 AVC. It also tells me that the codec is already installed on my computer.
I've had problems trying to edit h.264 stuff for longer than I'd care to admit and I just want to figure it out once and for all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is not going to help in the OP's circumstance; if the video doesn't play in Premiere, it's not going to magically start playing once dropped on the New Item button. That sets up a sequence with parameters that match the footage (is that what you mean by letting "PPro analyze the file?"), but Premiere is pretty black-or-white when it comes to format/codec support--it plays everywhere or it doesn't play at all.
If that were not true, DV footage would have to be edited only in a DV sequence, and AVCHD only in an AVCHD sequence. Of couse, that's not the case--sequences are format-agnostic. -
How do I import mp4 video files into Premiere Pro Cs4
For sometime now, I've been finding it practically impossible to import video files into premiere Pro cs4 especially mp4 files which happens to be the commonest to me now, as I currently shoot with a Nokia Lumia 920 phone with Windows phone 8 OS. I have tried severally to convert the videos into various other formats using Xilisoft video converter version 7.7.2 and each time I do this, they would either not play fine in cs4 or not import at all.
Please what can I do to be able to import these mp4 files into Cs4 or what format or how do I convert them into a format that would play seamlessly for better editing?
Funny enough, I had once imported video files that were shot with the same phone and they worked well, just wondering why they aren't now.
Please any assistance would be appreciated.

NKCI'm happy to announce to you all that my "mp4 importing" issues has been sorted out. Now I import mp4 shot with the same Windows Phone 8 Device into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. Only that for the moment, it doesn't play as fast as with ordinary player.
But how did I get it to work, you may wonder;
I simply installed Itunes on the system, I also installed an app called media monkey. I can't say which of the apps did the magic but the next time I tried to import mp4 files into Premiere Pro after these installations, it imported seamlessly.
Obviously there's a link between the required codecs and the itunes itself.
You may want to try it and hope it works for you.

I've been trying to import a Final Cut 6 project into Premiere Pro CS 5.5 without any success. The footage is originally imx 50 codec. I do an xml import and I get a error message saying it cant read the .mov codec. It can see the sequence but can't associate any of the footage to it. I also tried transcoding the FCP sequnce to prores and then doing an xml export but with exactly the same result! Can anybody help?Hi Colin,

Porblems importing Canon C300 footage into Premiere Pro CC 2014: only import 30 seconds
Hi! I'm having problems importing Canon C300 footage into Adobe Premiere Pro 2014. I'm taking the files directly from the media browser to I can only import the first 30 seconds of each clip.
Why can be that? Do I need a specific plugin?

editorSince you did not perform the copy process yourself, my thinking is that maybe something went wrong when it was done. Far too many people don't understand or follow the process that works.
My recommendation would be to get your hands on the cards and do it again, making sure to use only Explorer or Finder for the task. -

Once you install it, in FCP you go to the File > Import menu and choose XDcam. It will launch XDCam transfer and will put the clips in your project.

Imported Sony F55 footage into Premiere and AME is overexposed.
I am importing a series of .mxf files into AME directly into AME in order to save JPG sequences, however, we are encountering an unexpected issue. It looks like it's not properly processing the color space for these source clips and most of the exported frames are clipping or over exposed. Using the Sony RAW Viewer outside of Premiere, the clips look just fine.
Is there a way to tell AME to use a particular color profile, in order to correctly process and export the clips? Since CC came out everyone says these files import "natively", but it doesn't appear to natively handle the color out-of-the-box. Since I'm using AME, vs Premiere, I assume the setting would have to accessible in the export module?
EDIT: Dug around the RAW Viewer a bit more and it appears to be using the Cine+709 Profile in AME by default. This is purely based on observation as the image in the viewer matches the preview in AME. When I select a different option, such as LC_709 in the RAW Viewer, you get back a lot of that detail.
So the trick now is getting AME to chance which profile / LUT it uses. I'll keep plugin away but any suggestions are appreciated.

If I convert my files to AVI with the setting Apple DV then I get files that look reasonable and are not jumpy in PP. They do appear a little pixellated and I need to switch audio to uncompressed otherwise it removes the audio.
Also there seems to be no option for Type 2. (You can select codec, and these include PAL DV, PAL DVPRO, etc. but not much else for export type)
Is this the kind of approach you were thinking?

Trouble importing MXF files into Premiere Pro CC
When importing MXF files into Premier Pro (CC or CS6) from a Canon C300, If I have stopped and started the Camera (during an interview for instance) ie, if there are several takes, multiple duplicate verions of my fooatge appear in the folder on my card, when viewed through the media browser in Premier Pro.
If I try to ingest the footage into Premiere Pro (CC/CS6) or use Prelude (CC/CS6) the conformed footage file does not start in the right place. Example, an interview with two takes once ingested (as one file) has the second take first.
Has anybody else encountered this?Yes, MXF should play perfectly in PP CS6, but if you can't work this out at this point, you may wrap your MXF video to something intermediate. as a matter of face, Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 seems to work fine if you import your MXF clips directly from a camera or camcorder, but if have already copied MXF recordings your HDD or you downloaded them from somewhere else, the import error may occur.
So i suggest you convert the MXF footage to something mezzanine we would recommend DNxHD.mov (if you are on a PC) or Apple ProRes .mov (if on a mac). those two intermediate codecs are good mezzanine codecs that handle recompression well and standup well in other areas of post-production (color grading, graphics, compositing, etc,). How Best to Import iPhone 4 video into Premier Pro CS5 - Settings for new import "sequence preset"?
Shooting video with my iPhone 4 (ATT version) and am trying to import file into Premiere Pro CS5 (5.0.3) running on Macintosh OS 10.6.6.
The problem is that I am simply guessing on how to import sequence, and the result is that I am getting motion artifacts and generally inferior quality. I am using iMovie 11 as my basis for comparison. Not surprisingly, iMovie 11 imports from iPhone beautifully, but when I've looked around inside of it for properties, there isn't much to see.
From using Apple's built in quicktime "inspector," it is possible to see that iPhone4 video has following properties:

When I follow your approach, I don't get the same "sequence preset" dialog box popping up.
FU question, though, the motion is frequently jagged. Is there a way to smooth out/increase the quality of the rendering? I have 16gb ram, Mac Pro. which is able to handle iPhone video rending fine in quicktime. (I've tried rendering for "performance" and "memory" but both seem to produce, eh results.).
