How do I install 10.3 with 9.1?

I've been always using 9.1 for everything but now I want to try X.3
So, what´s the way to install X leaving 9.1 running as well as now? (I´m afraid of doing it after all the strange things I´ve read here)
I use Quark 3.3, Photoshop 6.0, and Dreamweaver 4, mainly. Which of these can be run in X?

9.1 should work as Classic under 10.3, but if it doesn't, the upgrade to 9.2.2 is fairly painless and is free. Apple has the updaters from 9.1 to 9.2.1 and 9.2.1 to 9.2.2 on their site.
You can install 10.3 by getting a set of 10.3 CDs (there are three, not counting the developer CD) and then installing by inserting the first CD into the drive and launching the installer.
Quark 3.3 is definitely a Classic/OS 9 app. You'll need Classic to use it, and you'll need a font manager which can manage fonts in Classic, too. That means Suitcase 10. Suitcase 11 doesn't do Classic, or at least I was never able to get it to do Classic. Apple's Font Book is not ready for prime time, is not designed for pro font management, and doesn't do Classic. Lino's Font Explorer X doesn't do Classic.
I'm not sure if Dreamweaver 4 does OS X. If not, it's a Classic/OS 9 app.
Photoshop 6 does OS X. It'll work natively, no problems.
If you're going to OS X, you might think seriously about redoing your workflow to use OS X-native apps, such as Adobe's Creative Suite, which includes InDesign. InDesign will read Quark files. Creative Suite 2 ships either as Standard: Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, for $900; or as Premeir, which is Standard plus GoLive and Acrobat, for $1300. Quark 6 goes for $700-1000, usually closer to the top end of that scale. Quark 7 is now in beta. Many things are turned off in the beta, they won't tell you how much the release will cost, and you have to fill out a truly idiotic form to get to the beta. (It's now a mere two pages. It used to be four. They want lots of marketting data. I didn't give it to them. They were upset.)
You're going to need to make sure that you have lots of disk space available; OS X's VM is always on, and can eat up to 3-4 GB of disk space without even trying hard if you're like me and have a lot of apps running at the same time, but don't have in excess of 512MB RAM. You're going to need to make sure that you have a lot of RAM; 10.3 won't install with less than 128MB, and you can't get much done with less than 256 or 384 MB. For serious work 512 is a realistic minimum, and if you add more you cut down on the disk space VM will grab. This speeds things up noticeably.
If you have a G3 or an older G4, then you should know that the money spent on bringing that machine up to spec (more RAM, larger hard drive, USB2 card, etc) will be more than what a nice shiny new Mac mini costs. And the Mac mini will be faster and have more RAM and larger hard drive than the older machines, anyway. And it'll come with 10.4, so you don't need to get hold of 10.3 CDs.

    Thank you!

Do you see the menu bar or anything else? As for the missing toolbar, this is the case for 90% of Firefox users, for instance the Google Toolbar. To restore it, you need to install Mozilla's Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15003 and restart Firefox twice.
As for the white screen, I am not sure what you mean, but your install looks corrupted, you probably need to uninstall Firefox and reinstall from scratch. You may spend too much time and effort otherwise. Back up your settings first if you have any, like Firefox bookmarks.

    Lion cannot BootCamp XP.
You can install XP under virtual machine software (Parallels, VM Fusion, VirtualBox).
And Windows 7 Pro has XP mode.  XP will requires probably days of pathing after install and will be completely unsupported by MS within 1 year, but Windows 7 Pro still has great support from MS.

  • How can I install InDesign CS6 with my newly purchased serial no. when I have deleted the trial?

    hi guys,
I need to know how I can install InDesign CS6 with my newly purchased serial no. when I have deleted the trial version? In other words I do not have the trial version any longer so I need the actual download files/folder to link the serial number to. I have CC as well but that shouldn't make a difference - I need to run InDesign CS6 for third party plugins.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi there,
If you have purchased CS6 Indesign Download from Adobe Online, then you can go ahead and login to your Adobe account and navigate to "My Adobe" > "My Orders" to locate the Order, its download and the serial number.
You can also download the same trial version again and just use the serial number to activate it to a full version. Below is the link for the trial versions for CS6 versions:

If you don't have Oracle Linux support, you can use our public Yum repository. Instructions for setting this up can be found at http://public-yum.oracle.com.
If you do have Oracle Support, follow the instructions at http://linux.oracle.com to register your server with the Unbreakable Linux Network for updates.

  • How do I install OS 9 with this 1.67 mHz G4 PB?

I am currently using OS 10.4.10.
I'd like to wean myself from my old beige G3.
    Thanks for your time.

Remember that you can't install OS 9, per se, as a bootable operating system. You will, however, be able to use OS 9 in Classic mode. By the same token, not all things from Mac OS 9 will function as they did in native mode.
I myself have a "lot" of Mac OS 9 applications that, believe it or not, are critical in my work. One of the reasons I don't want to move to Leopard, and prior to that, not made the jump to Intel-based Macs. I used to have a machine--PowerMac G3 All-in-One--that I had reserved for Mac OS 9 stuff, but finally retired it (just last year, I think) and found Classic to be sufficient.
But again, there are quirks, since essentially, Classic is like running Windoze in virtualization mode. In this case, running Mac OS 9 in virtual mode within the OS X environment. So things like printing from an OS 9 application can be a headache, some things will NOT work, like using iMovie from OS 9 in Classic mode, etc.
So I recommend, before retiring your old beige G3, to see if all the critical apps you use from OS 9, work in Classic mode once you get it up and running on your PowerBook G4. If it works fine, get rid of Mr. G3. If not, maybe keeping the old thing won't be so bad after all.
If you have your original install/restore discs with you, pull those out and pop them in. You'll also have to make sure all the drivers for OS 9 are updated for use with Classic. Usually your Mac will tell you that when you run Classic.
There is also a "Classic" preference pane in System Preferences that lets you adjust settings for such.
Here, also, are some tips from Apple that I compiled for you that you might find helpful:

My laptop's operating system is Windows Vista.

  • How do I install iMovie 06 with iLife 09 ?

I have installed iLife 09 on my MacBook. I don't like the new iMovie version and want to go back to iMovie06 but keep the rest of iLife 09. I don't even care if iMovie 09 is still there, I won't use it. I have the install disks for iLife 06 from my old computer. How do I do the installation? Do I first need to remove iMovie 09? Or do I have to remove all of iLife 09 and re-install all but iMovie 09 after installing iLife 06? What is the easiest path for me? I want all of iLife 09 except I want iMovie 06 in place of (or in addition to) iMovie 09.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Many people use iMovie 06 with iLife 09 & 08
There are 2 ways to do this.
    1) Use Pacifist to install just iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk.
Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages, .dmg disk images, .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .pax, and .xar archives, and more, and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package.
    2) Delete iLife 09, install all of iLife 06, then re-install iLife 09.
When iLife 09 is installed, all of the old iLife applications are automatically deleted EXCEPT iMovie 06, because Apple WANTS you to have it.
I like method number 1 myself.
    I use both iMovie 06 and iMovie 09 (iMovie 06 about 90%, iMovie 09 about 10%).

  • How do I install on computer with corrupted internet Explorer?

Computer cannot get online because IE is corrupted. I would like to install firefox. How can I download the file to work around this issue?

Do you have access to another computer with an internet connection? If so, you can download the latest FF version to a USB or other portable device and then install it to your PC.
    Do the following:
    Go to [[http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html]]
You will find a grid with all of the different languages that FF comes in.
Select "english (US)" and click on the "download" link for your operating system. You will go to another page where it states that your download will begin automatically.
You should then see a message box come up and ask if you want to save the file. Click on "Save File" and save it to whatever device you are using to transfer it to your PC.
Take the device with the file and plug it into your computer. Using "My Computer," navigate to the device and double-click on the file. It will then start the FF installation process. Follow the on-screen directions from there. The file is about 8.2Mb so allow yourself enough space on your device.

  • How to re install Snow Leopard with Mavericks running?

    Hello,
Not long after it was introduced I upgraded my Macbookpro from Snow Leopard to Mavericks.
(Apart from that it also has a Bootcamp partition with MS Windows 7)
But Compared to any other Mac around me, mine has been extremely slow and the Mavericks upgrade did not solve that.
It has Microsoft Office for Mac and Mackeeper and I suspect either of those could have something to do with it.
To see if that helps I want to do a complete reinstall of the OS X.
I already made a full backup of both the Mac and the Bootcamp side.
But when I load the original Snow Leopard install DVD it says it can't do the install because it there is a later version (being Mavericks) running.
    What should I do?
    Thanks,
    Sander

Thanks a lot for your quick responses.
I was able to do what Mende proposed and have also removed Mackeeper.
I don't know what the cause was but the Mac appears to be back to it's normal speed now.
However, stragely enough, when I start up using the option key to choose between the MacHD and Windows partition, I suddenly have three partitions to choose from.
Mac HD, Windows and a new one called Recovery which of course I would like to get rid of without damaging anything.
Do you know how to do that safely?
    Thanks again
