How do i install a SATA 150 HDD in MSI KT6.

How do i install a sata 150 HDD in MSI KT6.
I will build a new rig.
The HDD drive is virgin. I put windowns xp cd in the cdrom then set the bios to boot up from the cdrom, and then?
When will i install the HDD drivers? Or the SATA drivers?  I'm confuse!
One more thing please... When should i install the mobo drivers? Are that drivers the: VIA_Hyperion 4IN1_V449vp2 ? And the sound driver, it's included in there?

Hi,
Read all this:

  • How can i install a sata hard drive in my compaq nx6110

There is a rediculously small hard drive installe in my laptop 40gb. I want to install at least a 240 gb but only can find sata drives that size. How do I go about installing the sata drive.

You cannot install a SATA drive, and you can't go up to 240
because the BIOS is not "48 bit" compatible.
This limits you to 137 GB or less. There are plenty of 120 GB drives
on Ebay for pretty good prices; just search this phrase:
    "2.5 PATA 120"

It's going to be impossible to install Mavericks unless you have a working Mavericks-USB-installer or an  "install OS X Mavericks.dmg" that YOU have downloaded from the App Store in the past.
You should use a Snow Leopard install DVD to install 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on your Mac. From there, you can use your  "install OS X Mavericks.dmg" to install Mavericks. If you don't have that, you can download and install Yosemite from the Mac App Store instead.
If you don't have either a Snow Leopard install DVD or a custom made Mavericks-installer-USB, you should call Apple and buy a Snow Leopard install DVD from them. They're still for sale.
The other option is to use another, still functioning, Mac and connect the two using a firewire cable. Then you can use Target Disk Mode to install Mavericks or Yosemite on your Mac http://support.apple.com/nl-nl/ht1661

  • How to re-install windows 8 on my ssd msi ge60

I bought this msi ge60 a few months ago. I suffered windows update problems because of the nvidia card error and as a result i wanted to install a fresh copy of windows. Now originally the windows 8 is already installed on my ssd. I just wanted install on it again. I have had made the recovery disk however while recovering though disk one an error arises and says the installation was unsuccessful. When i go to my desktop and open my computer i see that the recovery infact tried to install windows on the HDD instead of the ssd drive.
I used the second recovery option which avoids formatting all the drives and an error arisies which says "1. Make sure the disk partition layout is factory default setting. 2. Make sure the current OS HDD is in the master HDD place."
What to do now? recovery disks wont work and neither will the f3 function :(
EDIT: I cant remove my hdd for fresh installation as it will void the warranty while i remove the cover

You can use a usb thumb drive or an external optical drive. IMO it is easier to use an external usb optical drive, no creating images, making the thumb drive bootable, or copying ISOs onto the thumb drive. External optical drives are cheap.

  • How do I install 5'th internal HDD in optical bay?

    Hi,
I am planning to purchase a new Mac Pro. I would like to use the standard 4 HDD bays for a RAID 5 set for data, and then ideally a 5'th internal drive for system/applications/boot.
Is it still straight forward with the early 2009 model to mount a HDD in the second optical bay slot? Do I need any special kit to do it?
    Thanks

Not sure if this helps, but I asked the same Q on another forum and this was the reply:
+"I'm not sure on the mounting yet in the new pros, but if you have a braket kit for a 3.5 to 5.25 mounting, it would probably work. i have some brackets like that, so they are available.+
+the power & data cables would be the same, but may need to buy longer ones or different orientations for the plugs. not sure if the cables are there if you buy only 1 dvd drive, but they should be, everything is SATA now from what I've seen.+

  • How do i install sata hard drive?

ok, i am using right now my sony dvdrw on ide1 as master and ata hard drive on ide2 as master, booting to the hard drive. i am going to install an sata hard drive and use that as the boot drive, the normal ata as a storage drive only. how will i install the sata drive? do i install it to sata 1 and then durring the install of windows xp tell it to hit f6 for third party scsi drivers and then use the intel sata floppy driver disk that came with my board? it's the MSI-6728 board. or is there anything special i need to do in the bios or what?
oh yeah. what connection for power should i use? my powersupply has sata and normal, so should i use the sata power connector? and then what's this about legacy or something in the bios, or am i wrong?

Well first of all, you dont install the Intel S-ATA Driver Disc unless you are going to create a RAID Array....Go into the BIOS and on the "On-Chip IDE Configuration" Page Set the Options like this.........
On-Chip ATA Operate Mode : Legacy
    ATA Configuration : P-ATA+S-ATA
Keep S-ATA Enabled : (Greyed Out Yes)
Keep P-ATA Enabled : (Greyed Out Yes)
    P-ATA Channel Selection : Both
Combined Mode Operation (At first you have to set this to P-ATA Channel 1, then switch after you Move Windows to S-ATA)
Configure S-ATA As RAID : No
Then you are Going to have to Install the OS on The SATA and Just Move the Files that you want to save from the P-ATA HDD and then Remove the P-ATA Drive from the "Boot Device" List in the BIOS....
You really should List Your Full System Specs. When you POST...Create a "Signature" with your Forum User Control Panel...........Sean REILLY875

  • How do I install SATA driver?

I've got a Raptor and I'm running it in a K8N Neo Platinum. I've also got a Sony DVD recorder.
Which SATA do I hook the drive to and which IDE do I hook the recorder to?
Also, how do I install the SATA driver? I don't want to use RAID so do I still need to intall a SATA driver?
I ran into a problem when I was installing Windows XP and it said it couldn't load the device driver for my diskdrive and CD ROm Drive. I'm not sure why but I thought it might have something to do with SATA.
    Thank you,

Oh man it's been a long 24 hours!  The reason I'm just getting back is because I removed my IDE HDD from this PC and installed it in my new K8N Neo. Well, it wasn't the SATA HDD causing the problem. I then removed my PS from this computer and installed it in the new one. Well, it wasn't the PS. Then I swapped my new PC3500 Mushkin Enhanced Memory 1GB (2x512) for my 1GB of Corsair XMS PC3200 in my old PC. Well, XP installed without a problem. It was my DAMN RAM. I guess it's bad or the Neo just doesn't like it. Anyway, I finally got this computer (old) back up and running so I could post.
I put the Mushkin back in the Neo PC and tried to install XP again with just one stick at a time. It still wouldn't let me. I then lowered the speed of the memory down to 166Mhz from 200Mhz with one stick and XP loaded without a problem.
So what do you guys think? Is my memory bad or does this board just not like Mushkin PC3500?
Will I get hit will a restock fee from newegg when I return this memory and what memory should I get to replace it?

  • Maxtor 6Y160MOSTD 160GB DiamondMax Plus 9 SATA/150 -- on -- MSI K8N Neo4 Plat...

Hello there... I have a Maxtor 6Y160MOSTD 160GB DiamondMax Plus 9 SATA/150 on my MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum. I've had this problem before but it wasn't important enough to report until now.
I have the latest BIOS (1.B)
Now... I did have a dual boot - XP and Fedora Core... then I decided since Linux would only install the base text system, to get rid of it. I formatted using Windows disk manager. BUT the GRUB MBR was still on there. It resulted in an error. So I took my winXP disk and popped it in. I tried to first repair the MBR. I used the command BOOTCFG DEFAULT. that didn't work. So without thinking I decided to reinstall XP all together. When It got to the restart, the GRUB was still there, therefore didn't boot.  Well what I ended up doing is trying the repair again. Used the command FIXBOOT - didin't work. I tried agian. Repair - found the command FIXMBR DUH! So I ran that and it recognized that the original MBR had been replaced. So I fixed the MBR and rebooted. XP wanted to install. So I let it. I came back some time later and found out it was stuck on "Initializing Devices...". At first I thought it was the graphics card. b/c linux had problems before probing the graphics card. I decided out of the blue to swap my 160GB HDD for a smaller PATA 2.1GB HDD and installed XP seemlessly. The obvious reason: XP couldn't detect the hard drive. The reason this is confusing is because I installed XP before on my HDD and no problems. I tried figeting with the chords, switching SATA slots. No luck. I really wanna know whats up with that. Help PLEASE.
Did I leave some info out?

Have you tried to download the Firmware for your HDD? Maybe you can refer to this site ==> https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?action=profile;u=77029

  • Does dv6-6153cl support SATA III HDDs?

I'm having trouble with my laptop and I think I've narrowed the problem down to the HDD. I want to replace it, and upgrade it, but I'm not sure what HDDs I can use.
I'd like to know if I can install a SATA III HDD into my dv6-6153cl laptop. From what I can tell it currently has a SATA II HDD installed. Can I upgrade to SATA III or am I stuck with SATA II?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Get the SATA-III. Even if the motherboard would only support SATA-II (not true in your case) you can use SATA-III drives. SATA is fully backward compatible. But, again, your motherboard has the HM65 chipset which supports SATA-III. A good rule of thumb is if it has USB 3.0 it also has SATA-III. Not 100% true but awfully close to always true.

  • How can I install Win XP on Satellite U300-150 PSU30e

    How can i install win xp on U300-150 / Model : PSU30e
I try to boot from CD Win XP SP2 but cannot not detect any HDD.
How can i do it ?
There is no option on bios for SATA support or IDE
    please help me

    Hey buddy
You will not find any SATA or IDE settings in the BIOS. The problem is that you have not installed the SATA driver which is necessary to install the XP on this notebook.
The key is Intel Matrix Storage Manger!
The Storage Manager has to be included into the Windows XP OS during the setup procedure using the button F6.
At the other hand you could include the Storage Manger using the free application called nLite.
Search a little bit in this forum. There are enough threads and postings regarding this theme.

  • How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??

How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??
i have 2 IDE hard disks & 2 CDROM drives: can install SATA hard disk added to these drives or do i have to remove some???
& if it can be added, can i install 2 SATA drives???
    THX in advance

The 3 versions of this board that are available are:
    875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0)
    875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)
All of these boards will have the following ports provider by the chipsets ICH5R south bridge.
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
    2 x PATA (Supporting 4 IDE devices)
All 6 of these can be used at the same time (provided you are using win XP or 2K) you just need to make sure yor BIOS is set right.
    ->INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS
    ->ON-CHIP IDE CONFIG
ATA CONFIG: S-ATA ONLY or P-ATA ONLY
    S-ATA/P-ATA KEEP ENABLED: YES
    OPERATE MODE:
If you set to "legacy mode" S-ATA are set to channel 1 and 2 and P-ATA to channel 3 and 4. If you set to "native mode" P-ATA are channel 1 and 2 and S-ATA 3 and 4. You can only use the raid functionfon SATA in native mode.
If you have the 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0) you will also have the following ports provided by the Promise PDC20378 PCI controller:
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
1 x PATA (Supporting 1 Master IDE HDD drive)
The PATA port is limited to 1 Master HDD by the lite BIOS. This can in theory be upgraded to the full BIOS supporting a master and a slave, but this may obviously void your warranty.
So the answer to your origional question is:
    2 x SATA HDDs and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0) or 875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    or
    4 x SATA HDDs, 1 x IDE HDD (2 if you modify the BIOS) and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)

  • How should I setup a SATA HDD on K8N Neo2 Platinum?

I bought a 200Gb SATA hard disk (Maxtor 6V200E0). This is the first time I work with SATA HDDs.
I plugged the HDD as I always did with an IDE HDD, and installed Windows XP -I have configured nothing-. The problem I'm experiencing is that sometimes Windows XP boots fine, and sometimes it doesn't. After the POST, the Windows Logo does never appear. I do not see anything.
Reading the Manual, I believe to understand that no matter if you only have one SATA HDD, I should setup nVRAID in the BIOS. Is that correct?. If I configure the nVRAID in the BIOS and setup RAID 0, should this problem disappear?. How should I setup my SATA HDD?. Is it the same to connect it to SATA1/SATA2/SATA3/SATA4 controller?. Or should it be connected into SATA1 -just because there's only 1 HDD in the system-?.
    Thanks a lot!

Yes, unfortunatelly there's a major issue with this kind of HDDs and nForce3&4 chipset based mainboards. I found the following article at the Maxtor web-site -I asked them to send me the firmware upgrade; standing by-:
    Question
I have heard or read that Maxtor drives are incompatible with nForce3 or nForce4 chipsets, or that I need a firmware update to make a Maxtor drive compatible with the nForce chipset. Is this true?
         Answer
Note: This solution is only to be applied to the listed products and only when used with the nVidia© nForce3© or nForce4© chipsets. If you are unsure as to which chipset you have, please contact your motherboard manufacturer or visit your motherboard manufacturer's website for clarification.
Firmware updates are not upgrades. They offer no performance enhancements and exist only to provide specific compatibility resolutions. If you have a drive that is working properly in a computer, you do not need a firmware update.
Do not use a firmware update that is not authorized directly by Maxtor as there are variations of firmware for different revisions of drives that can render drives inoperable if applied to the wrong drive.
Applying firmware to a drive that is not authorized by Maxtor will void the warranty on the drive as this would be considered an unauthorized modification. Please see Maxtor's Limited Warranty Statement for more information.
If your drive came inside an OEM machine such as a Dell, Apple, Gateway etc., do not apply a firmware update at all as this will void the warranty which is held by that manufacturer. Please contact your OEM vendor directly.
The following issues have been identified with Maxtor SATA II drives and the nVidia nForce4 controller:
Data Corruption: If you are experiencing data corruption issues, the problem is not with the hard drive firmware. Please visit nVidia's website to update to the latest nVidia chipset drivers to resolve this issue. Make sure to be familiar with your motherboard specifications as there are several variations.
NCQ: If you are experiencing problems with NCQ (Native Command Queueing) please see nVidia's Knowledgebase ID 768 for more information with an issue nVidia is having with NCQ and the nForce4 chipset, and a forthcoming resolution. They also offer a solution to temporarily disable NCQ.
No Detection: If you are experiencing a problem with your Maxtor SATA-II drive not being detected by your nForce3 or nForce4 host controllers at bootup:
Note: This does not apply if your drive is connected to a non-nForce3 or nForce4 controller such as SIIG (Silicon Image), HighPoint, Promise etc. Many motherboards have multiple host controllers onboard so make sure you are familiar with your motherboard specifications and schematics.
The drives affected are those listed in the following table:
    Model begins with:
    Code (Firmware revision)
    6B- or 7B-
    BANC1980
    BANC1B70
    BANC1BM0
    BANC1BY0
    BANC1E00
    6L- or 7L-
    BANC1G00
    BANC1G10
    BANC1G20
    6H- or 7H-
    HA431BW0
    6V- or 7V-
    VA111610
    VA101610
    VA131610
    VA141610
    Example of a drive label:
    Image
To check your current firmware revision on the drive without removing it from the system, use the Powermax diagnostic CD. Drive model, Serial and firmware Revision is displayed in the upper right hand corner after selecting the drive to test.
A firmware update to resolve this issue for Maxtor SATA II drives is available by contacting Maxtor Support. Please have the drive serial number and the Code number available, which will be listed on the top label of the drive itself.
Firmware updates will be issued for those drives experiencing this problem only, not for experimental troubleshooting. Due to the nature of a firmware code update, a drive can be potentially rendered inoperable so it is critical that data is backed up first.

How do I install bootcamp so I half both my ssd and hdd for windows and lion?

Sorry about that one. There are THREE not just two, about SSDs, and the iMac SSD + hdd one.... well  that one was private (not sure why).
Most questions have been asked/answered, multiple more than once, times, and therefore: public bookmarks and search please. (some gets asked almost daily, a few multiple times in one DAY of all things).
I'd like to see pdf guide and error messages, faq and how to articles re-written, updated, and checked for errors.
www.apple.com/support/bootcamp is where I usually send people to seek out the pdf and do some readiing and backups. you will need backup no matter what.
Windows won't install iwth two drives/devices with GPT so you have to remove or reformat the data drive for now.

Can anyone tell me How I can install a new operating system on a new HDD of my Macbook Mid 2010 model. I don't have another Mac to use, I only have a PC, I also don't have access to any discs or bootable USB's.

Thanks for the quick response guys. The fulll story is, I bought the machine as not working from eBay with no HDD. It was listed as water damaged. Im competent at fixing water damage and got the machine up and running again in no time. I put a HDD in that I had lying around that was working last time I checked with hope of being able to format it using a recovery USB download from Apple and then going from there but I can't even get that far. Looking at the model release time it seems it would have been released with Snow Leopard so it makes sense that i'd need to get a disk. Unless you have any other suggestions?
