How do I install Brother MFC-5840CN scanner driver to eMac OSX?

I've done the installation but the icon doesn't exist to show that the scanner driver was installed. Plus, when I go to open it up from the CD, it asks me to choose an Application to open it. So far, nothing has worked. Do I need to uninstall it however many times I installed it? And/or what am I doing wrong?
The Brother printer is an all-in-one w/photoshop. I feel like I must be skipping a step but instructions are not helpful in troubleshooting this. Any help is greatly appreciated!! And I cannot wait until Monday to call Brother. We need the scanning feature for a school project due Monday.
(And for those of you who offered suggestions to my previous post about which all-in-one printer to buy for an eMac, I thank you very much! For some strange reason, I wasn't notified when your answers came in even though I checked off that box.)
Thanks again!
lablady

a brody,
I'm installing the file from the CD that came w/the Brother printer. It seems to successfully install to a Mac OSX but when I try to install and open up the BrotherTwain.pkg, it asks what application to use to open it. There aren't a lot of choices and so far, the 2 I have tried don't seem to work. Still trying to figure out what step I'm missing. I'm normally quite good at these technical issues.
Thanks,
lablady
What is the name of the file you are attempting to
install the drivers from? If it is a .exe that only
works on PCs. You would be looking for a .pkg, .app,
or .dmg file. If it there are none, please let us
know what they are.

  • Difficulty installing Brother MFC-J825 printer driver

    Hi
I'm trying to install a Brother MFC-J825DW printer to my MacBook Air running OSX 10.8.5.
I have downloaded and successfully installed the driver from the Brother website.   However when I connect the printer via a USB port:
-- I can see the printer in 'Print and Scan' preferences
-- but I can't find the driver downloaded from Brother
-- instead I get prompted to dowload te driver from Apple
-- After clicking 'Install' - a few moments later, I get a message saying: The software is currently unavailable.
How can I use the drivers as downloaded directly from Apple?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Krish

... However when I connect the printer via a USB port:
The MFC-J825DW is a wireless printer. Assuming you have a wireless network, it's best to not use its USB connection at all.
Make sure the printer is connected to your wireless network. You can use its front panel control for configuration: Menu > Network > WLAN. Refer to its manual, page 34:
    http://download.brother.com/welcome/doc002847/cv_mfc825dw_eng_net_b.pdf
Once you get it working, check Brother's website for firmware updates. An update was released for it about a month ago. Don't update its firmware until you get it working reliably.

  • How do I install DW CS6 in PC drive other than C:?

How can I install DW CS6 in PC drive other than C:? I have "only" 6GB of space left in C:, and got an error message when I tried to put the Adobe Installer into another drive.

    Thanks, Mylenium...
It's not about the cost of a new drive. I've already added 2TB over the past couple of years, and partitioned thim into higher drive letters. Most programs let me install them into those drives and still save enough in C: to be happy. But I'm uncomfortable messing with any root stuff. For some dumb reason, I partitioned the original drive (165GB) into 3 virtual drives (c,d,e) and the C: is only 60GB, which had 6GB free.
I've temporarily offloaded a lot of files and now have 13GB free space. Maybe I'll try the install again tonight, as it takes many hours to download DW CS6. If that doesn't work, maybe I'll have to ditch the 165GB drive and replace with larger. Do you know of a program that will do that exchange without losing anything? The thought of having to reinstall a lot of legacy software that I still use is scary. And I don't have any spare SATA ports left.
    Thanks again...

USB on Intel Macs has always supported booting, that is what MacBook users have had to deal with. With a Mac Pro you have four internal drive bays, Firewire, and all of those are more suited and capable.

  • How do I install Lion on a bare drive?

When major OS versions are released I wipe a drive completely and install the new OS and my apps. I do not use Migration assistant. I install clean.. from scratch. Over the years this has helped maintain a very stable OS and eliminated 90% of slowdowns, reinstalls, and troubleshooting.
But.. how do I do that with Lion? I do not want to install 10.6. I want to use a bare drive and install 10.7.
Do I download 10.7 burn the download to disc then use that? Will the download allow burning a boot disc?
    Thanks!

    BackupLionBootable 10.7  Disk
Purchaseanddownload Lion from the Mac App Store on any Lion compatibleMacrunning Snow Leopard.
Right click on “Mac OS X     Lion”     installer and choose the option to     “Show Package Contents.”
Inside the Contents folder     that     appears you will find a SharedSupport     folder and inside the     SharedSupport folder     you will find the “InstallESD.dmg.” This is         the Lion boot disc image we have all been waiting for.
Copy “InstallESD.dmg” to         another folder like the Desktop.
Launch Disk Utility and click     the     burn button.
Select the copied “InstallESD.dmg” as the image to     burn,     insert a standard sized 4.7 GB DVD,     and wait for your new Lion Boot     Disc to come     out toasty hot.
With this disc you can boot any Lion compatible Mac, andinstall10.7 just like you installed previous version of Mac OS X. Youcaneven use Disk Utility's Restore function to image your Lion bootdiscimage onto a external drive suitable for performing a cleaninstallon a optical-drive-less MacBook Air, or Mac mini server.
    Installing Lion clean
How will customers perform a clean     upgrade of Lion?
And how will IT departments install Lion across multiple     Macs?
The answer to these questions is a MacFirst Aid Kit, a specially formatted external hard drive thatcontains the required operating system and software to install Liononto any compatible Mac. All it takes is seven easy steps.
Purchase and download Lion from     the Mac App Store on any Lion compatible Mac running Snow Leopard.
Launch Disk Utility and go     straight to the restore tab. Drag “InstallESD.dmg” the Source     field, and drag your external hard drive from the left side of the     Disk Utility window into the Destination field. Check Erase     Destination, and begin your restore. (It goes without saying this     process will erase everything on your external hard drive.)
Once Disk Utility's restoration is     complete you will be the proud owner of a Mac Frist Aid Kit capable     of booting and installing Lion clean. Test out your creation by     restarting any Lion compatible Mac while holding the option key, and     choose Mac OS Install ESD as the startup volume.
Once booted from the Lion enabled     partition on your external drive ou will have the opportunity to run     Disk Utility and erase your Mac's primary hard drive. From the Erase     tab select your Mac's primary hard drive and choose “Mac OS     Extended (Journaled)” as the format. Before you erase the drive     confirm you have a known good backup then click Erase…
With your Mac's primary hard drive wiped clean it is now time     to begin installing Lion. Quit Disk Utility to go back to the Lion     installer. Choose your Mac's primary hard drive as the destination,     and continue.
When the installation process is complete your Mac will have aclean copy of Lion installed on its primary hard drive, and you willhave an Mac First Aid Kit suitable for installing Lion on other Macsin the future.
Shipping software costs money, burns fuel, and requires a trip tothe store. By releasing Lion exclusively though the Mac App StoreApple is saving money, reducing its carbon footprint, and giving itscustomers convenience. Customers who own a MacBook Air or Mac miniserver will benefit most from the lack of installation media becauseApple saw it fit to ship these computers without a built-in opticaldrive. Performing a clean install of Lion is not required, but withan external hard drive it is easy to do across multiple Macs.

  • How do I install base system on external drive to boot MacBook Pro?

I have a MacBook Pro 2.2 core 2 duo. I use an external HD for storage. Want to make external drive bootable (i.e. to run apps like DiskWarrior on MacBookPro).
How do I install the base system?
    Thank you.

First, be sure the external drive is partitioned using the GUID partition scheme. If it isn't then you will have to re-partition the drive which will erase anything you have on the drive.
Second, the external drive must be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
Last, boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer and install OS X onto the external drive. Do not do an Erase and Install if you don't want to erase the external drive. You can customize the installation to omit any additional components you don't need such as language localizations, Asian Fonts, unneeded printer drivers, etc.

Keith first I would recommend installing applications on the same drive/partition which contains your operating system.  If you are utilizing a SSD for your operating system then much of the benefits of the SSD are lost when running applications from a traditional hard drive.
What version of Photoshop Lightroom are you wanting to install on this drive?  Is Lightroom included as part of a membership or do you own a license?
