How do I install Firefox upgrade when I get a messasge that another version is already running (which it is not)?

Every day I have been getting a notice saying that installation of a Firefox upgrade (v. 3.67.8)is strongly recommended. I have been a very happy user of v.3.6.3, with Vista.
I clicked on the installation and it did not work! It began downloading and then I got this message in a little window:
The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.
If I click OK in that window, or if I close the window, the downloading starts again and I get the same message!
I do not find Firefox in my list of programs, and the icon for my previous version (3.6.3) no longer works!

Before you run the installer, make sure Internet Explorer is closed.

I have been trying to install firefox but when l get to the setup type, firefox tells me to close firefox to proceed with installation, when l do it ask me if l want to cancel, l want firefox but l can't get it. tell me what to do next.

I want to make sure you're using the auto-update system, because that's the safest most reliable way to go, and it shouldn't appear in the download manager, so I lets make sure you're doing it right. <br/>

When i try to open firefox, I get a message saying another copy is already running. I have tried shutting down comletely and computer still thinks there's another copy running. How can this be?

There are two separate desktops on this computer, one for me and one for another user. Her Firefox is not affected. I have looked everywhere for this second copy supposedly running but I don't see how it can be because I have shut down all programs several times.

Firefox v 3.6.3 running Win 7 Home premium. About every 6th or 7th time I go to open Firefox from my desktop I receive the same msg as the original poster receives. I must restart to clear up the problem. When I select restart it states a forced shutdown is required and asks if I want to proceed. I click yes, the computer restarts and problem is fixed until the next occurrence.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

The browser appears to close ok. When attempting to restart it, I get a notification that the browser is already running, and to close it before it can restart.

the only way that I can then use Firefox is to reboot the system.

You probably have a "hung" firefox.exe process.

When I close Firefox and then try to open it, it says it is already running and I have to close it which I can't do. The only way to open it is to first restart my computer which is a pain. If I can't fix this I will use an other brouser!

I am not sure what more I can tell you. I close firefox. So when I click on the icon it should allow me to open it again but I get a message that says it is already running. Either close it out which I can't do since I already did that or restart the computer.

Try holding control, alt and delete down in succession and then a dialogue box will appear with windows task manager. Once open click on the Processes Tab and look for firefox.exe. Highlight this and then click end process. It should come up with a warning but just click Yes. This should then close firefox and allow you to reopen it from your desktop without shutting down your computer. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you downloaded the OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 Update or Combo Update. Neither will work on a version of OS X prior to OS X Mavericks. Those are only used to update an existing install of OS X Mavericks. The Combo will update any version from 10.9.0 thru 10.9.4. The Update will only update version 10.9.4.
You need the full installer of OS X Mavericks from the App Store. However, the App Store no longer offers OS X Mavericks. Yosemite is the new FREE OS X.

None of the stuff in " http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite " helps. I have tried and tried and I have even wipe the computer clean still didn't help. I got the same problem as he/she has got in the first posted. Can add some web pages but not all the web pages I want.. I should have never updated to 3.6.13... That's when it all started for me, from that version..... Now Version 3.6.14 is out, I was hoping the version 3.6.14 might would fix the problem wrong again....
Funny thing is i can not even Bookmark Firefox.com!!!!!...lol
So any ideas on how to fix it other than the link giving would help.

IMO, the best version of Flash for WinXP. Adobe kept up with security updates for 10.3 for WinXP users long after Flash 11.0 came out in 2011 for Vista and newer versions of Windows.
Run the uninstaller, then reboot your operating system.
Then you can run the Flash installer, with Firefox closed, of course.

I installed EasyPeasy in 2010, which is a netbook variant of Ubuntu, but that project hasn't been updated recently and I think the builders have lost the incentive to come out with a new version because the Ubuntu 11 versions have much better netbook support than back in 2009 and 2010.
I'm looking for a "lighter" version of Linux for my EeePC 900, like maybe Puppy Linux. I don't use my EeePC for anything except for "surfin" and Ubuntu installs too much superfluous crap for installing it in the 4GB SSD, and I can't figure out how to tie both the 4GB and 16GB SSD's together as one "drive" as it was with the Xandros operating system. The first Ubuntu program updates I got after installing Easy Peasy filled up the 4GB drive, and I am too much of a Linux noob to try a figure out how to fix the mistake I made when installing it to the smaller SSD. Firefox 3.6 works fine for me and that is good enough for now.
