How do I install iMovie 11 on Mavericks?

I have a new, late model iMac, which is a great machine, but the new iMovie 10 does not have chapter markers. I would like to install iMovie 11(which does have chapter markers)  in a folder within the appications folder. When I try to install the program, however, iMovie is grayed out and I can not install it. Is there a way to install it on an iMac running Mavericks?

Pacifist worked great! It is shareware, and the author requests a 20.00 donation. I was able to use Pacifist to extract iMovie 11 (version 9.0) from my old iLife disc and install it to a folder that I created in my applications. I opened iMovie and it works perfectly, but I of course tried to run update, and was able to download iMovie 9.0.9 (the latest update), but it would not install. I got an error message saying, "You already have the lateset version of iMovie installed."(iMovie 10 (version 13)) Needless to say I just turned back to Pacifist and extracted the .pkg into the same iMovie folder I created. I was able to open the updated iMovie 9.0.9 and then just dropped the "old" 9.0 into the trash. Thanks for the great tip.

  • How do I install iMovie on my iMac?

I recently bought a new iMac computer.  I own a MacBook Pro and purchased iMovie and about three other apps on this device.  When I tried to sync all of my apps to the new iMac I noticed that iMovie (and the three or so other apps I bought on my MacBook Pro) does not appear in my iTunes library.  Also, when i go to the apps store to search for iMovie, it states that it's already 'installed' and won't let me select it.
My question: How do I install iMovie (which I've already purchased) on my iMac when it doesn't appear in my iTunes library?
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

I tried to redownload the app - but was not given that option.  When I search and find the app in the app store, it states that the app has been installed and won't let me select it for download.

  • My Mac book doesn't have an OS. How do I install OS X Mavericks on it?

I recently fixed my Mac book and had to blew out the entire hard drive and with that the OS disappeared. How do I install OS X Mavericks when you have to download it from App Store which I don't have?

Install OS 10.6 from the DVD. The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

How do I install OS X Mavericks on my 2010 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo?

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • How do I install OS X Mavericks on a Macbook that wont even start up?

I got on it this morning, it booted up fine. Then stopped responding.
So I turned it off, and turned it back on.
It refused to open the operating system. Just kinda sat there with the Apple logo and the spinny 'loading' wheel.
I ended up in Online Internet Recovery, since my recovery system wouldn't work.
And I'm pretty sure I just deleted the operating system off of my mac.
Because I had no other option.
I don't have discs. I bought the darn thing a little over 2 weeks ago off ebay.
So I'm putting it back through the online recovery since when I retired restarting it, it told me it couldn't find the operating system.
(Folder with the question mark flashing)
If I open online recovery, can I possibly install OS X Mavericks onto my laptop and start all this over again?
I'm at the point where I don't care that I lost everything. I just want the darn thing to work, since I have limited options it seems.
If you have any idea on how to help, I'd really appreciate it.
    Thank you!

Macbook Pro 13" (Mid-2010) Though information says 2009 as well.

  • How do I install iMovie HD and iDVD on a new iMac?

    I have a new iMac, running 10.9.3.
I want to install iMovie HD and iDVD on this iMac.
I have the old install disks.
    How should I proceed?
    Thank you,
    Hal

The improvements provided by iDVD 7 over version 6 are not confined to themes.
Happily having two version of iMovie is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.
Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks. Update it to iMovie 6.0.3.
Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
    Then reinstall iMovie 11.
iMovie 6 works great with iDVD 7.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.

  • How do i install iMovie 6 onto my new imac with iLife 8?

I have a new imac with iLife 8 installed with Leopard.
I can't get used to the new iMovie 8 and want to instal iMovie 6 (which i am used to and find great).
Can anyone recommend how i can do this?
I don't want to change the other iLife apps, only iMovie 6.
Also the new imac is not at home and not connected to the internet, is there anyway i can do this without being online? can i download a DMG on a different mac and instal on the new one?
    Thanks very much

basicly: think twice before setting any checkboxes and hitting any 'install' button
I would try the installer disks of your G5.. probably contains iMHD6 ..

  • How do I install iMovie '06 on my iMac?

I have the original iLife '06 and am having a problem installing iMovie '06 on my iMac 3.06, 2GB, running Mac OSX 10.5.8. I thought I had installed it, but when I booted it, this message popped up. "You cannot open the application “iMovie HD” because it is not supported on this architecture". I tried to install it again, using the "custom" install, but the name is gray and it cannot be selected. Could someone state the step by step installation instructions. I must be missing something.
    Thanks, Rick

I tried the easy way as suggested by Silly rabbit and installed iMovie '06, but it altered iDVD, and now iDVD will not launch. The way I did it was: 1. booted the iLife '06 installation disk; 2. Moved iMovie '09 and iMovie '08 to the desktop; 3. Selected iMovie '06 from the "Custom" install option; 4. and clicked "Install". While iMovie '06 installing, I saw the iDVD icon flash a few times. After installation, I moved iMovie '09 and '08 back into the application folder and all three iMovie programs booted up, but iDVD did not. Help!

  • How do I install iMovie 06 with iLife 09 ?

I have installed iLife 09 on my MacBook. I don't like the new iMovie version and want to go back to iMovie06 but keep the rest of iLife 09. I don't even care if iMovie 09 is still there, I won't use it. I have the install disks for iLife 06 from my old computer. How do I do the installation? Do I first need to remove iMovie 09? Or do I have to remove all of iLife 09 and re-install all but iMovie 09 after installing iLife 06? What is the easiest path for me? I want all of iLife 09 except I want iMovie 06 in place of (or in addition to) iMovie 09.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Many people use iMovie 06 with iLife 09 & 08
There are 2 ways to do this.
    1) Use Pacifist to install just iMovie 06 from the iLife 06 disk.
Pacifist is an application for Mac OS X that opens up .pkg installer packages, .dmg disk images, .zip, .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2, .pax, and .xar archives, and more, and lets you install individual files out of them. This is useful if you need to install just one file out of a package instead of the entire package.
    2) Delete iLife 09, install all of iLife 06, then re-install iLife 09.
When iLife 09 is installed, all of the old iLife applications are automatically deleted EXCEPT iMovie 06, because Apple WANTS you to have it.
I like method number 1 myself.
    I use both iMovie 06 and iMovie 09 (iMovie 06 about 90%, iMovie 09 about 10%).

  • How do I install iMovie 6HD on a new iMac

My neighbor just got a brand new iMac (nice!) and I was telling him that iMovie 6 has features that he would find helpful. He purchased iLife 08 when he bought his iMac, but when we download iMovie 6HD it won't let him install. Does anyone know a work around?
    Thanks

We tried that but when the installer is launched it says that iLife 08 must be installed on the machine - and it is. Somehow this machine does not recognize that iLife 08 was preinstalled from the factory. Any thoughts?

  • How do I install iMovie and iDVD?

Hi. I recently acquired a Powerbook from my wife's employer. It came with OS 10.3.9 installed and running, but no software CD's.
I immediately noticed that iMovie and iDVD (and some others) are not present in the Applications folder. I copied them (via Toast) to a CD from my old iBook, but was not able to open the CD on the Powerbook. I also tried to copy the aps to an external firewire drive (via drag and drop), but it would not let me do that either (error 50 message, I believe it was).
I do have all 3 OS 10.3 installation discs, and tried to do an archive and install, but was unable to boot from the CD (screen froze with the Apple on it).
    Thanks for your help,
    Howard

If you have iMovie on your install/restore disc for the iBook, you should be able to extract the iMovie package and install it with Pacifist to your Powerbook.
I could be mistaken, I never used it, but from reading threads over the years this is the impression I got.
    It's a $20 Shareware (however I think you get a trail period)

  • How do I install imovie plugins?

Do I just drag them into the imovie plugins folder?
And how do I access them? ie will they appear in the imovie Titles/Transitions/Video Effects tabs?

    Yes ..and Yes.
(..But some Plugins arrive as compressed files (possibly with the suffix .dmg or .tar or .gz or somesuch), which should automatically un-compress themselves, and it's the resultant uncompressed item which needs to go into the iMovie Plugins folder. Occasionally, the compressed files don't automatically uncompress themselves, so you may need to double-click on the file to start the un-compression routine. Additionally; some - well-written - plugins automatically do drop themselves into the iMovie Plugins folder by themselves ..others have to be manually dragged there. If you see something with an arrow which seems to be saying "drop me in the iMovie Plugins folder", then drop it there manually.)
HOWEVER, be aware that (a) some iMovie Plugins which were created for earlier versions of iMovie may not work correctly with iMovie HD 6; and (b) iMovie Plugins written for 'PowerPC' processors - previous to Macs moving to Intel processors - may force your Mac to run iMovie via the 'Rosetta' PowerPC emulator, instead of running it as a proper Intel application.
    These two considerations mean that..
    (a) some 3rd party plugins may not work properly (written for a previous iMovie version)
    (b) some 3rd party plugins may not work properly (written for PowerPC processors, instead of being the latest 'Universal' plugins which work with both PowerPC and Intel processors).
So as long as you were careful to download only plugins which say that they work with iMovie 6 (..or "iLife '06"..) and are 'Universal' and therefore work with Intel processors ..then everything should be OK.
Even if your plugins are not Universal, if they're for iMovie 6 they should work, but iMovie may run a bit slower, because instead of the Intel version starting up, the PowerPC version may start, and ought to run under the 'Rosetta' PowerPC emulator. (No message will appear to say that it's running under Rosetta: the process is "invisible".)
    Phew!
In all probability everything will be fine, but if it's not, either (a) or (b) above (..or both!..) may be the reason why not!

  • How do i install windows on mavericks using MDT?

I have no problems installing 7 thru dvd or usb, but cannot get it to install using MDT

Well, what happens when you try?  Are all the Mac drivers installed?  Where does it fail?  What specifi steps are you taking to accomplish this?
I suggest you stick with searching Google and the TechNet forums, as while we're all Mac users here, not everyone uses Windows, let alone MDT.  And certainly nobody here would know anything about your MDT, WDS or SCCM environment.
