How do I install iPhoto on 10.7?

From the Mac App Store, or an iLife DVD, or your computer's original disks if it shipped with a client version of Mac OS X prior to 10.7.

  • How to reinstall iphoto on my iMac.  it is currently installed but wont open and says i need to reinstall from appstore

my iphoto is not working and it says to reinstall from appstore but in the appstore it shows already installed and there is no option to reinstall. do I need to try to move my current iphoto to the trash? if so what about all my pictures

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

how to install iPhoto after upgrading to yosemite?

Download it from the App Store as Matt suggested.  You may have to move the current version to the Trash Bin (don't delete yet), go to the App Store and look for iPhoto 9.6 under purchases.  It will be free.
What iPhoto version did you have prior to the Yosemite upgrade?  If it was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll also have to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on your library before opening it with iPhoto 9.6.

  • How do I find out if iPhoto is installed on my new computer?

After visiting the Apple website section which discusses migrating from a PC to a Mac. Working out how to copy photo's from a PC to a Mac (easy) I have one question. Why am I told to use iPhoto to view pictures if it doesn't come installed with my Macbook Pro?
I'm guessing I'd have to get iLife 08 to get iPhoto. I don't believe it's worth it. What would you recommend instead?
In general can you guys ame a good Freeware Mac sofware website?
    Regards,
    Bobspizza

Basically, but there are a few ways to narrow it down and save some time. PLUS, you do not want to be installing the system again (that could lose you data if you select the wrong one).
When the disk appears on the desktop, look in the panel for a brown file (you may have to scroll down a bit). This is a "package". It is marked "Bundled Software".
Double click on that and you will get some options. All you need to select are the parts of iLife that are not already on your system (and before you do this, please do check again -- the application should be in the Applications folder and you should see others in there like iMovie, iSync and iTunes).
Also, have a look in the Pictures folder to see if you have an iPhoto library file there.
Once you have selected those that you want to install, click the button at the bottom, and you should be asked for the Admin. password.

  • How can I re-install the last version of iPhoto, I hate this new version.

How can I re-install the last version of iPhoto. I hate this new version "Photos 1.0" which installed yesterday on my iMac. Please help. My operating system is OS X YOSEMITE 10.10.3. THANKS.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.

  • How do I override the app store? A previous owner purchased iPhoto and now I can't accept/install on my MacBook Air.

My husband purchased a previously owned MacBook Air for my birthday. The computer had been used a total of ten times (verified by Genius Bar, along with a full diagnostic scan). Everything is okay with the computer. After it was wiped and I created my own account, I no longer had iPhoto or iMovie installed. Went to the App Store to install, clicked "accept" and received this error:
These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID, and they will be available in that Apple ID's Purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the applications.
I understand that the previous owner must have purchased iPhoto and iMovie, but how do I override this? I'm willing to purchase instead of just "accept;" but I can't find where to do that.

  • How can I install iPhoto on a 10.6.8 Macbook?

    Hello all-
I had a quick question regarding the newest version of iPhoto '11.  Quite a while ago, I had to replace the hard drive of my (very old) Macbook Pro, and during this process I installed 10.6.8 on the new SSD.  Everything works perfectly, but I did lose my iLife install when the process was finished (I used the upgrade version of 10.6.8 as opposed to the full version, forgetting that the new drive wouldn't have my previous 10.4 install on it).
Anyway, I'm looking to buy iPhoto '11, but the requirements on the App Store claim that it can only be used with 10.7.4 or later.  I can't find an older version of iPhoto that I can buy, so my question is-
Can I use iPhoto '11 with a 10.6.8 Mac?  Has anyone successfully installed (not upgraded) iPhoto '11 on a 10.6.8 Mac?  If it won't work, how do I find/buy an older version of iPhoto which will work with my computer?
    Thanks for your help!

I contacted App Store support, but it doesn't look like they'll be able to help me- apparently you can't buy the CD version.  I did find this on Amazon, however- I believe it's what you're talking about.
However, I'm not sure if this version will even run on my Mac- any idea on whether it'll work or not?
Additionally, I found my old 10.4 discs that came with the computer when it was new- I'll try to get iPhoto installed off the bundled software installer and see if I can upgrade it from there.

  • HT201272 How do I download from itunes Lion and iPhoto to my imac which I have perviously installed

I have recently installed os Lion but I am not happy with the way it is operating and wish to reinstall it. I understand I can do a clean install by holding down the option key on start up and selecting the hidden drive. This leaves me with a problem of how to reinstall iphoto which I purchased at the same time but I am given no option to reinstall/download from the app store
    any help please ?

If you purchased iPhoto from the Mac App Store, it will be available to re-download once the App Store application sees that iPhone is no longer installed on your system. Once you have Lion reinstalled, just log into the Mac App Store and go to the Purchases area and you'll be able to download iPhoto there.
    Regards.
P.S. For future reference, there is a forum specifically for the Mac App Store:

  • I duplicated a picture and now iPhoto (11) is cloning that picture replacing all the other photos and only when I click directly on them I can see the real picture! How can I solve the problem without losing any saved picture? Shall I re-install? Thanx

I duplicated a picture selecting CMD and D but, suddenly, iPhoto (latest version '11) started cloning that picture and replacing all the other photos with it.
Only when I click directly on one photo I can open it and see the real picture it is.
But the preview is always the duplicated one...
I tryed to duplicate another picture just to see if it turned out ok but the only changement was the duplicated picture!
I started repeating the second duplicated one instead of the previous one but my issue remained the same.
So, how can you help me to solve this problem without losing any saved picture?
    Shall I re-install iPhoto completely?
Thank you very very much in advance!!

As Larry says, restoring the back up is the fastest and best solution. Otherwise:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • I have iPhoto 11, 9.4.1 installed. When my library was upgraded, I got a message the photos couldn't be imported and I need to repair iPhoto permissions. How do I do that? My photos are there, but I can no longer drag them to the photo stream.

I have iPhoto 11, version 9.4.1 installed. When my library upgraded, I got a message that the photos couldn't be inported and I need to repair iPhoto permissions. How do I do that? My photos are there, but I can no oonger drag them to the photo stream.

Disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's preferences and then go back and reenable it. See if that will jump start the process.  If that doesn't help try this:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto check its preferences to meka sure all is as you expect and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • How do I install iphoto for my mac with my start up discs for my mac?

I have an mac OSx which was bought in may 2005. Mac gave any new mac users the iphoto program into the mac installed discs. ( I have 2 I dont know which one its on)
My iphoto needs to be reinstalled as its not importing photos anymore. I need to instructed know how to use my disc to get iphoto in my computer. I dont want to reinstall my whole mac system. I just want iphoto put on.

Start by getting Pacifist (versiontracker.com). Launch it. Then. in the Restore disk, go to System/Packages (something like that), and try to find the package you think is the right one. It will be obvious. Drag it onto the Pacifist window. Search for iphoto, and install.
Before you do that, search for "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" and delete it. relaunch iPhoto. If that doesn't work, hold down opt+cnd, and launch iP. Rebuild it's database.
