How do I install Lion on a partition on a 2012 Macbook pro running Mavericks?
I need to run software for which the latest OS that it is compatible with is OSX 10.7. How can I install 10.7 on a partition in my Mavericks Macbook pro?
Another way to find out is to call Apple (or stop at the nearest Genius Bar) and give them your serial number - they will be able to tell you with that.
FWIW, if you bought it used and it had Mavericks on it but the original OS was anything earlier than that, the seller didn't do you any favors as any OS (or app) purchased/downloaded from the app store is tied to the Apple ID used to obtain it forever - and it is not transferable. What that means is that unless he did a complete erase and reinstall the original OS (as required by the licensing agreement), you won't be able to update any apps and/or won't be able to reinstall as you'll be prompted for the seller's Apple ID/password.
So, let's figure out what it came with first; then you can try internet recovery (press Command + Option + R keys during boot up until you see it is connected to Apple's servers); in the Utilities screen, choose Disk Utility and erase your drive. When finished, back to the Utilities screen, choose reinstall OS X. While in Disk Utility, you should be able to re-partition - although I can't guarantee that'll work at that point because I've never tried it, but I don't see why it shouldn't. After you have it installed on one partition, install it again on the other partition. Once that's done, you can download/install Yosemite (or whatever) on one of the partitions using your own Apple ID.
Note: you must erase your entire drive in order to do any of the above.

I changed my wireless broadband to a landline-base DSL wifi and it works like a charm. Sun was the culprit even you fiddle with its router and disable firewall, it won't work.
try changing yours too and let me know how it goes. -
Can you install Adobe Creative Suite CS3 on a 2012 Macbook Air running Lion?
Can you install Adobe Creative Suite CS3 on a 2012 Macbook Air running Lion?
Are you talking about adobe creative cloud?
If you are, the Adobe Creative Cloud give you most of Adobe's tools (and all that most would need) to do anything. I will warn you about this though, is that it is a subscription, and you are basically renting it. that means you really do not own it.
About the hard disk space, all Adobe apps seem to take up at least a GB (and this does not matter if you get the master collection or the Creative Cloud). so ether way, it will take some space.
Also, if you want to try-before-you-buy, you can go to creative.adobe.com, and get a free account and try out all of he adobe apps available for creative cloud. The best part of it, your apps will be updated to CS7 (if or when it comes out) instead of buying the apps again in your subscriptions. if you need even more information, you can go to adobe's site to find out more (www.adobe.com) -
How do I install dell v305 print drivers on my new macbook pro?
how do I install dell v305 print drivers on my new macbook pro?
Dell's drivers are only for Windows. If you can find out who makes the printer and what model it is, then you may be able to find OS X drivers for it. Or you can see how well it works using the Generic driver.

Virtual machine of Lion OSx 10.7 server on my MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7?
I'd like to create a better disaster recovery plan. My thought was to create a virtual machine of Lion OSx 10.7 server on my MacBook Pro running 10.7. Is that even possible?
Disasters for you primary tends to take down the disk. That would kill your VM 10.7 Server fail-over.
Yes, you can VM "server", but I advise using CarbonCopyClone to keep a copy of the main disk but on an external drive, two separate external drives if you can afford it. CCC will clone the Recovery Partition, and the odds of all three drives failing at the same time are very low. Just keep the clones current by backing up at least once a week, if not once a day. You can rotate one of the clones to a freind's house for better protection. -
Hi! is it possible that Logic X has upgrades that work only with mavericks and does t work in mountain lion....since in my macbook pro with mavericks i have new views of the equalizer, etc and in my mac pro with mountain lion it still the old view...
Any OS version of 10.8.4 or later has all features that are not OS depended. The plugins are one example. You probably haven't updated all versions of Logic Pro X to the latest one.

Hi, From about this Mac, my only HDD is full. When I have clicked and opened Storage screen when I've saw that there are 144 GB on Backups. I don't know which backup is it. and I really need help to find and delete it. I have Macbook pro running Maverick OS X.
I have a external HDD for time machine, but this backup I didn't know yet.
Please pleople... someone could help me? I'm in troubles.
SandroLinc Davis, According below: could I delete those snapshots from MobileBackups folder? would it solve my problem? ( if I want not my HDD 80% full) - Thank you a lot in advance.
Ordinarily, the best way to view your Local snapshots is via the normal Time Machine display, perquestion #15. If for some reason that's not working, you can see them via the Finder.
From a Finder menubar, select Go > Go to Folder and type /Volumes in the prompt, and select theMobileBackups folder. You'll see the same structure as for Time Machine backups on a separate volume: a Backups.backupdb folder containing a folder for your Mac, which contains a time-stamped folder for each snapshot. Inside each of those is a folder for each disk/partition that was backed-up, containing the same folder structure as on the original, with the contents as of the time of the backup.
Note that nothing in the size column is meaningful (if you Get Info on the MobileBackups folder, for example, it will show the total amount of space on the drive it's on! It will show dashes for the Backups.backupdb folder, or any of the dated snapshot folders). -
Question: How do I sync contacts from my iPad to my MacBook Pro running Mavericks?
How do I sync contacts from my iPad to my MacBook Pro running Mavericks?
rbargeContacts sync via iCloud.
Set up iCloud on your iPad and your MBP, with the same iCloud account on both, with the same Apple ID.
On the Mac you set this up with System Preferences > iCloud, and have Contacts checked in the box on the right.
It looks very much the same on the iPad, Settings > iCloud.
If you have set this up and it's still not working, then sign out of and then back into your iCloud accounts. -
How can I install Final Cut Studio 2 on my new MacBook Pro with Lion?
I just purchased and received a new 15" MacBook Pro (non-retina) last week. I need to install Final Cut Studio 2 on this computer. I have researched this and found that I need to install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD in order to do this. This is the first Mac I've bought ( although I've been working with them for years), so I don't have a Snow Leopard DVD. I am a high school teacher and we use FCS 2 for my classes so buying FCP X is not a viable option for me since I teach FCP 6. The iMacs we use in school run Leopard and were never upgraded to Snow Leopard (budget cuts and all), so I can't even borrow one from my district.
Does anyone know how I can obtain Rosetta? Or another way to install this without it?
Thank you ! :)There is no way to add Rosetta support because it is not supported by OS X Lion at system level. This has been documented before the release of OS X Lion by itself.
If you really need Final Cut Studio 2, I would return your computer if possible, and purchase a Mac that is capable of running Snow Leopard (all 2010 models, early 2011 MBP and some other 2011 models) -
How do I install base system on external drive to boot MacBook Pro?
I have a MacBook Pro 2.2 core 2 duo. I use an external HD for storage. Want to make external drive bootable (i.e. to run apps like DiskWarrior on MacBookPro).
How do I install the base system?
Thank you.First, be sure the external drive is partitioned using the GUID partition scheme. If it isn't then you will have to re-partition the drive which will erase anything you have on the drive.
Second, the external drive must be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
Last, boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer and install OS X onto the external drive. Do not do an Erase and Install if you don't want to erase the external drive. You can customize the installation to omit any additional components you don't need such as language localizations, Asian Fonts, unneeded printer drivers, etc. -
I have been trying to figure out how to transfer Photoshop CS5 from my Macbook Pro to the my iMac. The Macbook Pro was running Mountain Lion until I updated a few days ago to Maverick. The iMac is sill running Mountain Lion because when I went to update to Maverick it let me know that I would not be able to run Photoshop CS3. Under normal conditions I would not be concerned, but I don't have the Photoshop CS5 disk anymore to install it, so hence my problem.
I tried backing up to time machine and that did not work, I tried a transfer using firewire and it transfer the problem but then when I try to open it on the iMac it is looking for the serial number.
I would appreicate any help on resolving this.Hi landonw
The HD will probably have to be removed from the MacBook Pro and connected to a USB adapter or placed in a dock to get your data off of it. I would take the MacBook Pro along, the folks at the Apple Store should be more than happy to help transfer your data to a new iMac.
{quote:}All I am really concerned about is my iTunes database and my firefox profiles.{quote}
What no BACKUP'
To protect your data in the future, pickup a USB External HD +(for under a $100)+ and use Time Machine.

How do i install OS X 10.5.4 on my macbook pro?
I cant get OS X 10.5.4 to install on my macbook pro anone know what I can do?
Well if your going to bother to install OS X, 10.6 is much better than 10.5 on Intel Mac's.
You get a stripped down OS without the legacy PPC code Apple doesn't want to support any longer and you get updated video drivers so your Mac performs faster.
Apple has abandoned all hope for 10.5 users, it's really a shame, but I guess it didn't make much buisness sense to keep employee's around for a processor that had no future.
So pop in a 10.6 disk and install that, Snow Leopard is the greatest OS Apple ever made, Lion is a complete and utter train wreck, but hopefully a year from now it will be somewhat usable.
Unfortunatly you will have to buy iLife, unless you can extract the programs from the 10.5 grey disks using Pacifist.

How can i install mac os x snow leopard on a macbook pro new hard drive
I replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro and I'm having difficulty installing Mac Snow leopard on the new hard drive. I press "C" when rebooting with the disk inside and all I get is "you need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again" any suggestion?
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
logo appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
Clean Install of Snow Leopard
1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc. Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key. Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
dark gray Apple logo.
2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.) Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window. Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X. You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current. -
Using Lion time machine to recover files to MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion
In order to partition my "vintage" MacBook Pro to run Bootcamp, I've had to go back to the previous OS (Mountain Lion), and before erasing my hard drive I did a full backup to Time Machine. Once I connected the external HD to the "mountain lion" laptop and I went to the Time machine, and was prompted to start it up. After a backup process I looked at my time machine disks and see the backup, but the times prior to this last backup are greyed out. If I go to each prior backup session I can see the files and even copy them to my laptop, but they won't open. I receive a prompt to install them from the original disks.
I don't seem to be able to recover files from the Lion Time Machine backup to the Mountain Lion.
Is there a "trick" or workaround.
ThanksI'm a little confused. You say the previous OS was Mountain Lion, but Mountain Lion is the most recent there is.
Then you say you're unable to recover files from the Lion backup.
Please clarify exactly what you have, and what you're trying to do.
If you want to restore your entire OSX partition, including OSX, apps, user accounts, settings, and data, you can do that from any backup, but not via the Time Machine browser (the "Star Wars" display). Instead, you do a full system restore, per Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14. -
How do I fix a kernal panic on my mid 2012 macbook pro 13?
My Macbook Pro mid 2012 OSX version 10.7.5 has been crashing at least 15 times a day for 3 days. I'm working in a 3rd World Country without any Apple stores for support, so I'm really, really stuck. Can anybodykindly give me some advise? I have recently updated to Itunes 11.01 and started using ICloud, I have also bought and downloaded a few Apps and books in the past week. The problem seems to happen when I am not typing - when it is in sleep mode/standby.
I started running Norton for Macs yesterday and nothing comes up on the scans.
Here is the crash report. Can any of you guys help me fix this, please?

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
