how do i install mac os x on a previously owned macbook without their password?

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

  • How can i install mac os x snow leopard on a macbook pro new hard drive

I replaced the hard drive on my macbook pro and I'm having difficulty installing Mac Snow leopard on the new hard drive. I press "C" when rebooting with the disk inside and all I get is "you need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again" any suggestion?

Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
    1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple
          logo appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

  • OS Change: How can I install/activate PS Elements 10 on my new Macbook without buying it again?

I was using PS Elements 10 on my Windows (Vista) Laptop which has now a broken display so I bought a new Macbook Pro (without DVD drive). I now have problems with downloading old version (PS Elements 10) and activation because as far as I understood my old serial/license won´t work on MAC?

    Hi Tank,
Let me address your problems one by one.
If you are facing difficulty downloading from the link I gave you, please first login to adobe.com website. https://www.adobe.com/account/sign-in.adobedotcom.html?returnURL=https://www.adobe.com/ If you don't have an adobe id yet, you can easily make one by signing up. This adobe id would help you register all your adobe products and also many-a-times there are interesting offers.
Once you are logged to the adobe.com, try downloading from the link again. It should work.
For your problem of "write access", I believe its because the flash drive you used is write protected. You can always reformat your flash drive or as pointed by barbara in one of the post, you can get it done easily in any Apple store
Now for the licence problem, I really do believe that you can still use your Windows Key for activating PSE10 on your Mac. You can drop a mail or start another post asking the top posters (barbara, 99jon or John R. Ellis for example) if you can use the key for your mac. If I were you, I would
Download or copy the installtion file for PSE10
    install PSE10 on my Mac
Use the free trail for 30 days.
Try activation my PSE10 on mac using the windows key. If it fails, I would go for buying new key or converting the old one for Mac.

  • How do i install Mac OS X version 10.6.8 on my computer from Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

how do i install Mac OS X version 10.6.8 on my computer from Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • How can I install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Mac OS X Tiger?

Hello. Can someone tell me how I can install Mac OS X Snow Leopard on Mac OS X Tiger? I have the disk, but when I open the installer, I get a message saying that Snow Leopard could not be installed on my computer and it could only be installed on a Intel-Based Mac. This is a PowerPC Mac, so that makes sense.
So, I'm trying to ask how to make my Mac an Intel-Based Mac so I could install Snow Leopard. Or if I can't do that, I need to know how to install Snow Leopard some other way. Please help.

Just an FYI, the Mac App Store was introduced with Mac OS X 10.6.6.    However the rest of what you say is accurate.
10.6.8 is required if you want to upgrade certain Macs beyond 10.7.5 without having to reformat the drive you are installing the operating system on and without having to install some version of 10.7 first.
One can actually install 10.7 or later if you maintain an original copy of the full installer of the operating system in question for your personal use without having to have the prerequisite operating system installed, if the hardware supported it.  But that's a discussion for another forum.
    For HFTaylor,
Consider buying a used or refurbished Mac with an Intel CPU depending on your needs.  Read this tip about the migration of data from PowerPC to Intel before proceeding:

  • How do I install Mac OS X on SSD?

    Hello All,
I will be buying a Samsung 840 Pro Series Solid State Drive to instal into my Macbook (white) mid-2010. How do I instal Mac OS X onto the new SSD? Thanks for your help.

No, because the flash drive is a recovery system. Which is basically the 'Installer' for OS X, and so after you put in the New SSD, you boot to the flash drive (Boot holding down "option" and select the flash drive) and choose "Reinstall OS X" which will download (from Apple servers) and install OS X onto the drive you select. (You may need to use Disk Utility to format the drive to Mac OS Extended {Journaled} first)

How do I install Mac OS X Lion in my macbook?I already have it in appstore!

First off, dont call me guy.  Now when you launch the app store, hold down the option key and click on purchased.  You should see a dark grey button next to Lion that says install.  Click install on the other mac.  Make sure you are signing in with the same apple id that you purchased Lion with.  That should do the trick.

  • How do i install Mac OSX Leopard on other drive

how do i install Mac OSX Leopard on a drive other than my Snow Leopard computer? I need to access old files that will not open with new OS.

Simple. When you get the prompt to install Snow Leopard on your existing computer you will see a button that says "change destination disk..." or words to that effect.
You can select any mounted volume. If that volume already has a later version of OS X installed, you will need to erase it first using Disk Utility.

how can i install mac os x 10.4 an a external hardrive

Boot the Mac from the 10.4 installation disk, confirm with Disk Utility that the external drive is formatted as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) with the appropriate partition type (GUID for an Intel Mac, Apple Partition Map for a PowerPC Mac), select the external hard drive as the disk on which to install, and install.
You posted in the Mac OS X 10.7 Lion forum, by the way. You'll usually get the quickest and most applicable responses if you ask in the forum for the product or service about which you're asking.
