How do I install Mac OSX Lion client on the new Mac Mini Server?

If Apple would have had the quad-core processor option for the non-server Mac Mini, I would have just bought that, but I wanted the quad-core. I do not, however, need the server software. I found this article talking about how to disable the server functionality, but this article highlights how little that method actually does.
Ultimately, I just want to do a clean reinstall like I used to do prior to Lion. This process used to be so easy. Create a disk image of the desired operating system on USB, option boot, and you're done. Now it appears that Apple purposely impedes this process, as every time I boot from the USB I created with Mac OSX Lion client, I get a circle with a line through it. Is there any way around this restriction? Editing firmware, editing .plist files, etc?
Very disappointed that Apple is limiting what used to be such a simple process on Hardware and Software that I paid for but now can't get the functionality I want.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but what I don't think you can do what you're asking for.  Closest thing is going to be disabling the server components like it says in the article, but again, that doesn't do much.

Try using VLC or installing both QuickTime 7 and Perian. Nothing will work with all AVIs; some of them require codecs not available for Mac OS X.

  • Changing to a new Mac... how do I move my Logic prefs over to the new Mac?

    Hi Guys,
I'm selling my Mac to upgrade to a newer one.
I'll be re-installing Logic on the new device. However, after all the time I've spent configuring Logic on the current computer, I don't want to lose my prefs!
How do I save and transfer my preferences to the new Mac?
And... how do I save the Templates I have created? (Is it as simple as storing them, and then dropping them into the new templates folder?)
Any tips on this (or any other warnings that might help me have a smooth transition to the new Mac) would be great!
    Cheers,
    Mike

If you've respected the distinction of System and User on OS X, you should be able to use Migration Assistant to handle everything (save Licensing) -- not just logic prefs and settings.

  • I just purchased a new MacPro to replace my existing 2006 MacPro which cannot be undated with the new operating system.  My question is what is the safest way to transfer all my files.  1) simply install my existing 2TB HD into the new Mac Pro or 2)

I just purchased a new MacPro 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor to replace my existing 2006 MacPro 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon because it cannot be undated with the new Lion operating system.
My question is what is the safest way to transfer all my files to the new computer.  1) simply install my existing 2TB HD into the new Mac Pro, set it as the startup drive, and update its10.7  operating system or 2) or use the migration program.
I'm concerned that simply installing the existing 2TB HD, I may have issues with it not recognising some infromation written for the old 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon.

your new system runs 10.6.8 just fine as has been said and stated many times.
    I would clone it first.
I would even clone the original system it has.
And if you have or want to use Lion and then Mountain Lion, fine - I would still keep backups of every OS.
I am not a fan of putting the OS and Apps plus all the data all on one drive. I like to keep them separate.
Whatever OS, rerun the last combo update is all and any other updates.
And by "new Lion" I assume you don't mean 10.7 but "Moutain" 10.8.  Part of me says keep Lion and SL around, and test and try out ML with your apps and other hardware you may have. After too many years, waiting for 10.8.1 - and give everyone time to update their apps and retest.

  • How can I move my three SATA HDDs to the new Mac Pro without backing up?

    Hello,
I am doing initial shopping for the new Mac Pro but have come to the frustrating realization that I cannot move my HDDs to the new computer for free. Sure, I can migrate my OS drive to the new one, but my other three disks inside my 2007 Mac Pro are in a pickle. I want an economically viable method of getting those three drives to the new Mac without backing them up, formatting or something like that. Also, I would prefer a transfer method that will rival the speed of it being internal. I don't think USB 3.0 can do this, but Thunderbolt 2 can? Everything I've seen online has been outrageiously expensive or requires me to reformat (RAID).
    What I'm looking for:
Connect three or more HDDs of various capacities to new Mac Pro
Have the transfer speeds rival or exceed that of my current grandpa computer (Mac Pro 1,1)
Have it not be incredibly expensive (anything over $300 is ridiculous)
Have it be no more than two devices, one prefered unless they are individual enclosures that can either daisy chain and/or are inexpensive.
    Safe for my drives.

    >  a 3 TB, a 1.5 TB and a 500 GB.
Most 3TB drives are going to be "green"
The 1.5TB may or may not
The 500GB is likely old, due for retirement if not worse.
A pair of two drives of 2TB likely would be enough for now and plenty of dual drive USB3 cases.
For a single drive and Thunderbolt docking adapter for using one drive at a time:

Or this one is fine and USB3

  • How do you import music from a CD on the new mac

I can't seem to find a slot to insert a CD so that I can import music from CDs onto my new Mac... Do I need to buy an additional drive for this...?

You need to purchase a third party manufacturer external optical drive.
People, you need to start paying attention to things before plunking down thousands of dollars on a Mac that you have no idea what features it has or has not.
The whole reason the iMac is super thin, now, is because of its lack of an optical drive!
There is no optical drive thin enough to be able to be installed into iMacs, now.
JUst by looking at this iMac, common sense should tell you there probably isn't any room for any DVD or memory card slots of any kind on the sides. That's why Apple designers had to place the memory card slot on the backside of the iMac, now.
If an internal optical or SuperDrive isn't mention in the new iMac's features specifications list, it no longer exists.

  • How to connect an old ADC flat panel to the new Mac mini?

I am thinking of getting one of these new Mac mini's for the kids in the den and I have an old 20" flat panel ADC from Apple that is still going strong. Is there an adapter that will work with this configuration?

Somewhat ungainly, but you'll need the mini-DVI-DVI adaptor (supplied with the new mini), and a DVI-ADC adaptor (http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8661LL/B?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MjE0NTg4NA)

  • Hello !, can i install Mac OSX Lion to my PC (not mac)  i have got Intel Core2 Quad processor and Gigabyte P35-DS3 and 3GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD4850 Sapphire graphics Card ?

    Hello Guys
i want to install MacOSX to my pc
i heard something about that (like OSX86 project ?)
i have got Intel Core2 Quad processor and Gigabyte P35-DS3 and 3GB RAM and ATI Radeon HD4850 Sapphire graphics Card ?
    please answer .......

Teknus...  Here's the issue.  For starters, I understand software licensing issues may not be interpreted the same in all countries (although they are still applicable).  I also understand that everyone is not familiar with what software licensing is.  It is technically possible to install OS X on a PC (as you have seen on your friends computer).  However, Apple has designed OS X to only work on Macs.  In order to get OS X to work on a PC, it must be modified ("hacked").  As these forums are owned by Apple, we are not permitted to provide you with instructions on how to hack their OS.
Having said that, I have used OS X on PCs.  It is not a pleasant experience at all.  The experience is actually poor enough on a PC that I would not even use it... opting for Windows or Linux instead.  You're simply sacrificing too much of the true OS X experience when you try to run it on standard PC hardware.  If you want to try  a different operating system, give Linux a try.  There are many free versions out there and they will run on just about any PC.  The forums are also very helpful.  Linux is much more similar to OS X than Windows.
I understand that Macs are expensive and that you would like to use OS X on a PC.  The simple fact is that using it on a PC would not be the same as using it on a Mac.

  • How to resolve Tuxedo 6.5 error  getting on the new HP-Itanium server

    Hi guys,
We had tuxedo 6.5 installed on old server which is HP-PA Risc server and Os is HP-UX B11.11.
Where as we cloned and migrated that file systems related to Tuxedo to new server which is Configured with HP_Itanium and Os HP-Ux B11.23.
We freshly created Oracle instances with same naming conventions on Old server as Our server is HP-Itanium that oracle files created with .sh extensions.Where as in Old server they were created with .sl extension. While moving file systems from old server to new server we exclude the oracle part. But we moved the Pleopelsoft home location as it was on oldserver.
But when we try to start application server we are getting the below error

    Hi,
The processors are different archiectures and you can not use binaries from one architecture to work on the other.
Library name suffix differences is an example of the importance of this. Tuxedo 6.5 was separately built for each of those architectures and
is available on the PeopleSoft distribution as distinct binaries. If your migration was purely from HPUX11.11 to HPUX11.23 you might have
succeeded but the processor difference will not work for you and a core dump would not be unexpected.
    Bob Finan
    FYI:
Tuxedo 6.5 is end-of-lifed and, since it's EOL has passed the stage for extended support possibility, no new patches will
be created for it by engineering. You should look to migrate to a newer version of Tuxedo/Peoplesoft at the earliest
    possiblity.
