How do I install my MAS apps on a 2nd hard drive?

I have a large number of purchases from MAS on my iMac.
I have Lion installed on an external drive and Snow Leopard on the internal drive.
All my purchases in MAS show up as installed when I am booted off the external drive in Lion, but are not available in the Applications folder.
How do I force MAS to install in the external Lion System Applications folder?
Peter

Never mind I have discovered Apple's "Magic" solution.
Open the MAS purchasers window, which is in chronological not alphabetic order and compare it with my internal hard drive's Application folder which is in alphabetic not chronological order. Compare that to the contents of my external drives' Applications folder
Then individual pick out every uncommon application and drag them across.
So obvious! …and barely tedious at all.
I look forward to having to do this repeatedly.

  • How can i save itunes game apps to an external hard drive?

Im trying to do a clean install of osx mountain lion since i noticed computer is starting to get slow but was wondering if theres a way to do that since im a complete noob and also on how to save itunes game apps data to an external drive since i dont want to loose them can someone please guide me on how to do this?

Do a Time Machine backup to an external drive. It backs up everything.
Instead of restoring from time machine backup, go into time machine and drag out the things you want to restore.
    Good luck

  • How do I install programs and files from my backup hard drive?

I had my computer reset to original settings after I backed it up to an external hard drive and now I'm not sure how to reinstall everything from there.

Time Machine is not a application installer, it is a backup and restore app. If you erased or lost an App then open Time Machine, navigate to a time when you know you have the app and then restore it.
Have you done any backups using the Seagate drive or is it a brand new external HD? Remember we are not there to see what you are attempting to do so we are relying on you to be as descriptive as possible.

  • How do I install an operating system on my erased hard drive when I get the error "This item is unavailable"?

So i erased my MacBook's hard drive trying to get a fresh, clean system install. After erasing, I tried to install a new OS X with the Recovery drive but after entering my Apple ID it simply says "This item is currently unavailable, Please try again later." So now my computer has no operating system on it, and I can't get one.

You may need to do the following. Check this to be sure you can: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If you are OK:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If the above does not work, then you have to first install Snow Leopard:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You can now upgrade from the App Store, but right now Apple's servers are not working for Snow Leopard users, so be patient and keep trying to download Yosemite.

  • How do i install the osx software onto my new hard drive?

I have just recently replaced my hard drive due to a fault from the previous one. how do i install my software without a cd? Everything is done by internet cd's just dont exist anymore. What are my options?

I don't know if this will work or not, but if your machine shipped with Lion, try booting while holding down the Command, Option and R keys. You may be able to format your drive and then reinstall Lion on it.
It may work - it might not; give it a try.

  • How do I install and BOOT Windows 7 on External Hard Drive?

Please please please help! I've been browsing the net for 2 days straight and can't find a decent answer.
I've partitioned my external hard drive (Western Digital Passport) using Disk Utility.
I have 4 paritions in total; 2 intended for Mac and 2 intended for Windows.
I used a GUID partition table for all 4 as displayed on the below picture.
Although I should note that when my external hard disk is booted in Windows it says that it uses Master Boot Record, please see picture 2 below.
I formatted the Mac Partitions to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and the Windows Partitions to ExFat.
The Macs work beautifully; having successfully installed and booted Snow Leopard on them, and then backed up my 2 internal Mac Drives to them.
However, the Windows ones are a complete nightmare and I have no idea how to installl Windows 7 and then use them from there.
Can anyone offer a solution? I've heard so many conflicting ideas about this that it's made me dizzy just reading it all.
    Thanks!

Yeah, I use Windows on bootcamp for both my Imac and my Macbook Pro.
In fact, seeing as my Mac partition on my external hard drive was successful i.e. I installed and can boot from them any time I like, couldn't I just use the external hard drive's partitions' bootcamp assistant and install/boot windows on there?

  • How can I install OSX on a new third-party hard drive in my Macbook Pro?

I'll start off by saying that I bought my MBP (Mid 2009, 13 inch) used two years ago, and the seller never thought to mention that he had installed a third party hard drive not long before selling it to me... First problem.
Anyway, the hard drive crashed. I'm installing a new hard drive, but I'm worried about getting back to having Mountain Lion. I'm confused by the process - Some say I can start by ordering a retail copy of Snow Leopard on Amazon, some say I need the OS disc that originally came with the computer (which obviously I don't have), and some make it seem as if there's a special version of Snow Leopard I need to order from the Apple store?
    Help.

There is no special version of Snow Leopard (other than what ships with a Mac of that vintage). There is a regular retail version. It is a good idea to have a copy.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After you install the new hard drive boot the computer from the OS disk, and install OS 10.6.
If you want a more recent OS, sign in to the App Store - use the same ID and password you have used here.
There you can download Yosemite, it's free.
I assume your MBP meets the requirements for Yosemite. If it does not, or if you want an earlier OS than 10.10, you should be able to find it at the App store.

  • How do you install windows bootcamp on a second internal hard drive?

I have a SSD as my main hard drive then installed the old hard drive internally in the internal optical bay slot. Whenever I try to install Windows and reboot, I get the No Bootable Disk error. Any ideas?

Disconnect the hard drive (assuming you want to install on SSD) and put the optical drive back.
Even on a multi-drive Mac Pro (tower) or an iMac (with SSD and 2TB hdd) there are extra steps.
You can't install Windows on one and have a drive with OS X or even GPT partition type on second.

  • How can one restore or replace apps lost in a hard drive crash? All usual channels exhausted.

I've restored most of our files from various backup sources but roughly half of our apps have not been restored to our computer. The Apps section in iTunes lists them all, but half have the circled-exclamation-point icon, meaning the files cannot be found (nor does a search on the computer &/or external hard drive find them). The iTunes App Store "Purchased" section does have a list of all purchased apps, but when clicking on a "lost" one, it says that it has already been purchased. There is the "download from iCloud" icon on a few of them (but not most), but not for the ones I really want.
Is there another way to reaquire the apps I've already purchased, but have been lost due to an iMac hard drive crash?
Thank you, helpful person of the future.

I don't know about apps but with music if there is an entry in iTunes, even if broken, iTunes thinks the item is there and doesn't need downloading.  There the cure is to delete the item completely from iTunes and redownload.

I recently purchased a Segate FreeAgent Go Flex external memory that is compatible with both Mac and PC, but I have not been able to successfully install it.

    Hi Ariana_bebi,
Article: HT1427 Mac Basics: Time Machine
Time Machine can’t backup to an external drive that's formatted for Microsoft Windows (NTFS or FAT format).
That may be one reason it is not showing up in Time Machine.

  • My Hard Drive is lost, how can I install my second installation on my another Hard Drive?

Hi, I have a license of CS4 Master Collection and installed it on my laptop and on my personal computer. But the HD of my personal machine was lost and could not deactivate my installation. Now I need a new installation on my PC with another HD and I am not getting.
How can I cancel the previous installations so I can reinstall my license?
    Thank you very much
    Paulo A. Teixeira

My laptop was fried by lightening and had to buy a new laptop. Of course I was not able to deacivate mine either since "Thor" did not send an advance notice. What worries me more is that Adobe has not responded to your post. I have contacted them online and am waiting for an answer. I will let you know what they say when I get a response.

  • How do I install Snow Leopard onto a COMPLETELY BLANK hard drive?

My Macbook Pro's hard drive bit the dust last week so I bought a new one.  This has NOTHING on it.  No operating system, no files, nothing.   I have a Snow Leopard installation disk avaliable to me.  I can put in the disk and it will show the Apple logo but before long my computer beeps at me.  I looked up that problem and it seems that there is something wrong with the RAM, however, there was nothing wrong with it before my hard drive died, so I can't imagine what could be wrong with it.  I tried to take it out and put it back in but that didn't work.   I have tried starting up with the alt/option key, but I cannot get my  computer to connect to my wifi, not even through a direct  connection.  I "stole" a neighbor's and clicked on the internet recovery option (the only one that showed up on the screen.  It then said, "Internet Recovery Starting.  This may take a while."  And the little globe started to spin.  But then the globe stopped and there was a triangle with an exclaimation point in the middle of it.  Underneath it said "apple.com/support" and underneath that in pale letters it says "-1005F".   I have NO idea what that means.  I tried typing it into my internet browser (on a different computer, of course), but to no avail.  I have given up for now, with the hope that someone out there holds the answer.  Thank you so much for reading and I hope you know what to do because I am going absolutly insane.

I need to know the model MBP you have.  On the bottom is the serial number.  Enter it here and post back.
