How do i install OS 9 onto my OS X (G3 mac)?

i am running Tiger OS X 10.4.3 on an old iMac G3. i want to install OS 9 (which came with the computer) so i can run Classic, and run old applications.
how do i do this?
when i try to install the OS 9 system, i get a message that says
"cannot find OS 9 system folder" (or something like that).
thanks.

hi Don -
well, thanks for clarifying he difference between the terms "OS 9" and "Classic", and for straightening me out on where to find the Startup Disk.
however, i think i really screwed myself now. i'm answering on my Dell PC now.
i went to the Startup Disk in the System Preferences, and then found the OS 9 Startup from USB(?) icon (or something like that), and tried clicking it. nothing happened, after several minutes. so, i tried clicking the icon that said "Startup from OS 9 on Hard Drive" (or something like that.) well, i know - at least i thoughti knew - there was no current OS 9 on my Hard Drive, but i thought i'd just see what happened.
so, the computer re-booted, and the OS 9-style icon comes up - the little computer with the face on it - and then the Mac OS 9 opening graphic pops up. after that, an error box pops up that says "The system software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if copied to another drive". my only option now is a "restart" button.
so i click "restart", and the same dead-end cycle occurs - the OS 9 graphics come up, and i get the error box with the same message. i try to retart my agan) and the same thing happens - a failed OS 9 boot. i try to eject my OS 9 CD from the external iomega drive (thinking maybe getting rid of that OS 9 CD will force the computer to boot in Tiger again), but i have no way of ejecting the OS 9 CD. any way that i try to restart the computer, it now makes a failed attempt at OS 9, with no option to reboot another way.
let me guess - since i cannot get the Tiger CD into the front loading slot to reboot, i am screwed until i get that other stuck CD out of there. is this correct?
how can i now get my computer back to reboot in OS X - (or <either>, so i can get out of this dead-end loop)?
defeated,
korgy

  • I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)?

I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)? It does not have a CD drive.

If all else fails, try this.  i used to do it all the time before. might or might not work with the new office.
if you have access to another computer with a cd/dvd rom, copy the entire contents of the cd on a thumb drive.
insert the thumb drive in your MB and do the install from there.
However, if you have the newer version of MS Office, Bandit's suggestion is much better.

your post title and the message within seem to contradict themselves.
More information from you might be helpful as in  what packages did you install during the installation process? Did you have network connection during the install? Are there any errors that you get when booting.

How can I install my CS5 onto my MacBook Air? I have my serial number, but I can't find anywhere to download the program on the Adobe site. The physical CDs are useless w/MacBook Air.

The physical disks are OK with MacBook Air if you buy a cheap external DVD drive and connect via USB. That's how I install DVD software on my MacBook Air.
That said, you can download the software from http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs5-direct-download-links.html
Follow the Very Important Instructions on that page first otherwise the links won't work.

I am trying to install adobe photoshop onto macbook air with superdrive. How do I do this?

Connect the superdrive and insert the disc, it should start the installer.
If not, Go to Finder > Preferences > General tab > check CDs, DVDs and iPods under Show these items on the desktop.  This should give you an icon on the desktop of the Superdrive.  Double click the icon and choose the installer app on the DVD.

  • How/Can I install WINDOWS 7 64BIT on a 1st Generation Mac Pro ?

Hi, Is it possible to install Windows 7 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro 2.66Ghz? Apple suggests that it's not possible and yet I've seen several Googled posts where the users have successfully installed 64 bit on a 1st Generation Mac Pro. The problem is that they've done this creating a bootable iso disk(whatever that is) using a Windows computer with imgburn and windows commands. I'm pretty good at following instructions but I haven't seen any instructions on how to install Windows 7 on this machine using a Mac based approach.
I'm using BootCamp and was able to partition the drive into NFTS and "proceed" with installation; however all te installations failed during setup and Windows would not boot; disk repair was not possible. Besides, from what I've gathered, 32 bit is problematic around memory issues.
When I try installing 64 bits, I never get past the "select cd rom 1or 2" message where the keyboard won't work. It is at this point where others say they have successfully proceeded with moving forward by creating a bootable iso disk.
Problem is it's all Windows based with exe files and presupposes I already have Windows running.
I'm not sure I really understand how to create an iso disk, but I do have ROXIO TOAST 10 which is capable of burning "ISO" disks.Does anyone know how to do this and/or can you point me to a place where there are instructions on how to proceed?? While I realize Apple says that some mid 2006 mac pros aren't supported, there are multiple posts of windows users successfully installing Windows 7 on a 1st Generation Mac Pro.
    Thanks.

I have a March 2009 Mac Pro dual quad core running Win7 Pro 64 bit. I have Windows installed on a dedicated internal hard drive. There are no partitions, the entire drive is for Windows use.
Here's how I installed it, I did not start with BootCamp. Make sure the drive you're going to use for Windows doesn't have any important files on it because it will be formatted.
    1. Update Snow Leopard
    2. Place the Windows cd in the Super Drive
    3. Shut down the computer
    4. Remove all the hard drives except the one you want Windows installed on. Keep track of the order they are in and at the end replace them in the same order.
    5. Boot the computer holding down the Option key
    6. Boot to the Windows cd
    7. Install Windows and format the drive to NTFS
    8. When Windows needs to restart during installation you'll need to hold the Option key and boot to Windows, not the Windows cd.
    9. After Windows installs, place your Snow Leopard disc in the Super Drive
    10. The Drivers for Windows will be installed along with a Windows version of BootCamp.
    11. Go to Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update
    12. Update again until it's done.
    13. You'll also find a BootCamp under Control Panel, check it out.
    14. Shut down the computer and replace the hard drives in their original order
    14. Now if you turn on the computer it will boot to Snow Leopard, but if you hold the Option key during boot you can select Windows or Mac.

  • How to re-install Elements 10 onto iMac without hard drive?

I originally bought Elements 10 on a disk, which I loaded onto my macbook. I have now bought an iMac, and the file transfer of the elements 10 from the MAcbook to the iMac didn't work. Adobe support tell me to re-install Elements 10 into the iMac. But the iMac doesn't have a hard drive and the adobe products page has my serial number of Elements 10, but it doesn't give me a download option because it was originally bought as a disk, not as software - so how do I reinsall elements 10 into my iMac?
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah,
You can download Photoshop elements 10 from the below mentioned link.
    http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-10-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l
Please read the 'Very Important Instructions' before starting to download the file.
You can use the same serial number which you have in your Adobe account.
    Thanks

  • How do i install an os onto an imac 2008?

I recently purchased an imac 2008 and I don't know how to install an OS.  The keyboard and mouse did not come with it, but I do have a Magic Mouse as well as a wireless keyboard.
Any help would b e appreciated.

Didn't your iMac came with an operating system? Very strange. Anyway, you have two options:
    1. If the iMac didn't come with discs, call Apple to get replacement DVDs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 They will send you a DVD with Mac OS X and another DVD with iLife applications.
    2. Buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard If you get replacement DVDs, you will get Mac OS X Leopard, an outdated version, but if you get Snow Leopard, you will have a later version and you will be able to upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion if you want.
To install Mac OS X, insert the DVD and hold the C key while your computer is starting. Then, supposing that your hard drive is ready, follow the steps on the screen to install Mac OS X
