How do I "Install OS 9 System  Support"on my iMac G5?

I have read most of the posts discussing this topic but none of them appear to answer my problem.
My iMacG5 is running OS X 10.4.9. Classic 1.1 is listed in the system library. When I attempted to open Classic by clicking on an OS 9 application I got the message "Install OS 9 System Support". There is no OS9 System folder. According to the instruction book that should be easy to fix from the #2 blue-gray disk furnished with the computer with a label "Includes OS 9.2". However, the installation proceeds normally to the final Install button which produces the message "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install." What did I do wrong? What should I try next?
I note that the SN of this computer is high enough that it won't boot to OS9,but all I want is Classic.

Thank you EWW.
That article almost did it, but it did not tell me that I had to hilite the chosen language in the bottom panel by wiping the mouse across it before pushing install. Just choosing it from the list and having it appear in the bottom panel didn't work. Also, just clicking on it with the mouse did not hilite it and I got the same error message "Nothing to install".
I played around a little and after getting it to hilite the installation proceeded and now I am happily in OS 9 writing my memoirs with Word 5 (best Word version that Bill has sold us, so far).
Thanks again, Farrel

  • How do I install Agents on systems after I did the discovery and said agentless?

I did a discovery and set everything to agentless. pretty much all this seems to tell me is if the comptuer is online or offline when I go into monitoring? (I haven't added any mangement packs yet)
how do I now change a system to having an agent installed?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
To change an agentless-managed computer to an agent-managed computer, do the following:
Delete the agentless-managed computer from the management group by right-clicking the computer in
Agentless Managed in the Administration workspace and then clicking
    Delete.
Deploy the agent to the computer. For more information, see
    Managing Discovery and Agents.

  • How can I install on a system w/RAID?

I know now that Boot Camp will not install on a system with RAID (in my case mirrored drives). THis is a major bummer as I need to run an engineering program and it only operates in Windows. So I either stick to my less than optimal laptop or I figure a way to use the power of my desktop.
So any suggestions? Can I somehow use an external drive and install boot camp and WinXP there? What if I converted one set of mirrored drives to two separate drives (with an external backup system) and leave one set of mirrored drives (I have two sets of mirrored drives) and install boot camp there? Am I talking about a complete redo of my system?
I need a straight forward solution (and no I don't want to buy a PC to run the software). Also the engineering software will not run in Parallels - it needs full access to the Video system (in my case a Quadro FX4500).
    THanks for any suggestions.

It isn't a problem. I assume also that you don't have the Apple Pro RAID card, and that you have one drive bay that you can install Windows.
All you need to do is open Disk Utility, format a internal SATA drive as MBR and then create one or more FAT partitions. You can change FAT to NTFS later.
Then choose the OS of your choice (XP Pro x64 drivers aren't included or well supported, so I'd go with Vista x64 Business or Ultimate SP1).
No external booting. At least not without a bootable PCIe controller. There are RocketRAID cards that do support RAID in Windows but haven't tried creating bootable Windows. Maybe next week.
With a new raw unformatted drive, all you have to do is boot from Windows and select the drive.
You can also use the ODD ports to use for OS X for two of your drives because Windows can't see or use them.

I would apply or reapply the 10.6.8. Combo Update from Safe Boot (hold Shift down at startup -- give it much more time to boot than usual and leave it in SB for a few minutes before doing anything.)

  • How do you install a file system on an empty partition?

Hi. I'm running 10.3.9 on a B&W G3. I've formatted a 100Gb drive with a 40Gb partition on which Panther is installed (and which is running even as I type) and several empty partitions. I was going to install OS 9 on one of the empty partitions, but Disk Utility doesn't seem to want to let me do install a file system on an empty partition. Hence, the OS 9 installer can't find the empty partitions, and therefore can't install.
Is there another way to put a file system on an empty partition?

    Matt--
One suggestion: if you can't figure out how to put a file system on the empty space, you could clone your current partition to an external drive, re-partition the internal drive drive and then clone the external back. Like John, I've heard of utilities that can re-partition a drive without erasing your data, but I just can't imagine using one if I didn't have a clone anyway. So that's what I've done when I want to change a partition size.

    One, pacman -S gnome gnome-extra.
Two, pacman -S gamin and allow it to replace FAM.
Three, add hal gdm to your DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf, and remove fam if it's there.
    Four, /etc/rc.d/hal restart && /etc/rc.d/gdm restart.
    Five, profit.

There is no opportunity to download it, Richo. Your best bet is to have an acquaintance in the USA, Latin America, or Canada order the recovery discs and ship them to you.

  • After installing new operating system windows 7 on imac 27, mac stopped working.

We bought new imac 27, late 2012. Installed windows 7, mac stopped working. We restarted mac os, but system cant see hard disk. Cant install mac. What to do?

How did you install Windows 7?  Via Boot Camp, using a Windows 7 system builder disk, or with Parallels or VMWare's Fusion?
If you installed using Boot Camp, it sounds as if you goofed and installed Windows onto the Mac partition instead of the Windows partition.  What happens when you hold down the Option key when you restart the Mac?  Do you see a Mac partition and a Windows partition?
I would suggest seeing if you can use the Recovery mode on your new iMac to reinstall your iMac's operating system if you installed Windows over it by mistake.  Please see this Apple Support document on how to accomplish this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11273?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If you installed Windows using Parallels or Fusion, I can't help you, as I've zero experience with either.

  • I just bought a new iMac and only have the aperture cd, how do i install aperture 3 back to my new iMac

i just bought my new imac but i only have the aperture 3 cd and do not have a drive how do i install aperture 3 or where do i download from and then just insert the cd key.

You either burn a disk image of your CD (using Disk Utility) on a mac that still has a drive and transfer the disk image on a thumbs drive or network, or download the Aperture 3 Trial Installer.
Download it here Aperture 3.1 Trial
After running the Trial installer go immediately to Software update in the -menu, and only after updating to the most recent version launch Aperture and enter your registration code to unlock the Trial.  Then launch it by double clicking your Aperture Library or clicking the Aperture icon.

  • How do you install new/updated system without DVD drive?

I have a Macbook Unibody C2D 2.0Ghz with a dead DVD drive that won't even accept a disk. I need to update the system on this. How can I make a disk image of system install disks on a thumb drive or an external HD to install system?
    Thanks

For Leopard or Snow Leopard you need an installer DVD.
    1. You can purchase replacements for the original discs from Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Apple - Support - Contact Apple Support.
    2. Buy a new Snow Leopard DVD.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

  • How do I install the operating system on a store bought hard drive?

I purchased a hard drive from best buy to replace the one that died on my hp G60-501.  When I try to run the system install disk, it runs through the entire thing (around 1.5 hours).  When it finally finishes, it says that it needs to be reinstalled.  I have done this several times but to no avail.  I was told that the drive needs to be tatooed for HP.  WHat does this mean?  How do I do it?  Is it something that I can do on my own?

There should be no need to tattoo anything. What type of system install disk are you using? Is it the one you made when the computer was new using the DVD burner? I am suspecting a problem with the recovery disk. What brand of hard drive is it? We can get you a utility disk for the drive and I suggest wiping it clean and starting over. You should be able to order an HP recovery disk or just use a retail or OEM Windows disk.

  • How do I install an operating system on my erased hard drive when I get the error "This item is unavailable"?

So i erased my MacBook's hard drive trying to get a fresh, clean system install. After erasing, I tried to install a new OS X with the Recovery drive but after entering my Apple ID it simply says "This item is currently unavailable, Please try again later." So now my computer has no operating system on it, and I can't get one.

You may need to do the following. Check this to be sure you can: Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery. If you are OK:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
If the above does not work, then you have to first install Snow Leopard:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You can now upgrade from the App Store, but right now Apple's servers are not working for Snow Leopard users, so be patient and keep trying to download Yosemite.

  • How to re install mac operating system?

    what is my problem?
I downloaded a pirated version of Iwork. After that My computer got slower and I am having problems with connecting wifi Internet.
    What İ want:
I want to reinstall my Mac operating system and start from new. May be My Mac is affected by virus...

    Details of My Macbookpro...
    MBP 13.3/2.5/2*2GB/500/SD-ITP
    Model no. A1278
    Thanks for reading it...

I don't think this is iServices, as that's quite old at this point and would seem to be extinct. Plus, as MadMacs0 points out, Mac OS X includes built-in definitions for iServices. (Of course, depending on how you downloaded it, you may have bypassed Mac OS X's security. Some torrent apps or other downloaders used for illicit purposes don't properly set the quarantine flag, so Mac OS X's security system never looks at the files downloaded.)
However, any time you install pirated software, all bets are off. It may not actually be iServices, but there's nothing to prevent someone from embedding something malicious in what you downloaded. It may not even be truly malicious... could be legit software used for malicious purposes.
I'd agree with nbar that you should wipe the hard drive clean and start fresh. (I disagree with him that a secure erase is necessary... that will not make your computer any safer than just erasing normally. The only thing that will do beyond a normal erase is ensure that file recovery software can't recover anything from your hard drive.)
If the instructions for wiping the hard drive are giving you trouble, try my instructions here:
How to reinstall Mac OS X from scratch
In the future, never install anything pirated on your computer! That's like handing a known criminal your wallet and trusting him to give it back to you intact (or at all).

  • HT4718 How do I install the seperate system recovery partition after installing OSX on an external drive?

My Mac Mini (2011 - Mountain Lion) died on me and I'm trying to get Internet Recovery (or ANY recovery) to work.  I have done the hold down D on boot hardware test and the extensive test and it says all is well. However Internet Recovery downloads (or appears to) and then I just get a never-ending spinning wheel and Apple logo.
I just installed Lion 10.7 from my older Mini that can't run Mountain Lion onto the newer Mini's hard drive as an external disk.  How can I get the recovery partition added to that disk too?

Google recovery disk assistant. Hopefully that'll be what you need.
