How do I install snow leopard on a 2.1 ghz macbook with 10.5.8 Leopard installed?  I have a 10.6.2 unstall disk.  It says it can't install snow leopard on this computer.

How do I install Snow Leopard on my Macbook 2.1 ghz, with 10.5.8 Leopard installed?
I have the install disk for Snow Leopard 10.6.2, but when using it for installation, it
states that "Snow Leopard cannot be installed on this computer"!
I understand some features of iOS5 cannot be used unless my iMac and Macbook have
10.7 Lion installed.  Correct?

It sounds like your Snow Leopard install disk is the disk that came with another model of Mac (grey lable with no pictures). If so, that's not legal and won't work. You need a retail (white label with the picture of a snow leopard) copy of the installer for each system that didn't come with Snow Leopard.
Regards.

The current version of Aperture requires 10.7.5 or later.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

Do I need to reverse my thought on which to buy first?
I plan on keeping the iMac and PB until they cease to work ( have replaced HD's on both already).  I mostly use the PB-- lots of writing, surfing, email, etc.
    Your thoughts?

The minimum Mac specs (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) are :
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.2 or later recommended (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
So you only need Leopard, not Snow Leopard

  • I can't access my library on this computer. How do I get support that I makes sense?

What am I supposed to do here? I want to be able to sync my iPod Classic but I can't get any library information. Sorry, but this is getting to be more and more BS. I hope you all enjoy discussing my problem. If anybody can help me, let me know if there is some way to do that. Thank you.

Just so you understand this correctly, this is Support - here. However, your question needs to makes sense, and for that, we (or at least I) need more information.
    To add to TheGraywolf's post:
What do you mean by "Can't access your Library on this computer"? If you mean songs that you've purchased from the iTunes Store, have you authorised your computer so that songs download from the Store?
If you can't "access" the Library, do you get an error message when you try? What does it say? (Precise text please.)
Have you previously been able to access this Library?

  • Mavericks can't be in stalled on this computer

My MacBook (2009 or 2010) stopped working on Friday after I was finally able to remove a stuck CD. I was getting the gray screen. I tried to repair the disk and was told it couldn't. I erased and reloaded MAC OS X. On start up when prompted to transfer from back up, I did so. Not all files are accessible since I was running Mavericks. I tried updating software and after the update I could not get past the login screen. I reloaded MAC OS X and then updated Snow Leopard only, not the other 3 updates it also wanted to run. I tried updating directly to Mavericks now that I'm at 10.6.8. The download took more than12 hours. This morning it says I can't install OS X Mavericks on this computer. I am now trying to download Mountain Lion which is what I purchased in August before upgrading to Mavericks in January. It doesn't show it's downloading. I restart the computer and when it came back up, the download showed in my dock as paused. I tried to resume but it wouldn't. So I cancelled, restarted and tried the download again. It doesn't show it's downloading but I think it is.
I have also tried to repair the disk again and it says it appears to be OK. I have done a hardware test and all seems fine.
How can I get Mavericks back on this computer and running well again???

I was able to get Mavericks installed. I erased again, loaded MAC OS X, applications, and iWorks; updated Snow Leopard and all softward, downloaded Mavericks, installed Mavericks, updated all iWorks apps and THEN loaded data from my back up. It worked.
I am looking into SSD. Why should I install SSD instead of another HDD? Is there a way to find out how unstable I am without installing new HDD or SSD?

  • ITunes can't run cover albuns in this computer

"iTunes can't run cover albuns in this computer". Do you know how to solve this problem? This problem is already extending to my iPod, I can't see all the cover music album that I have.

  • I go to sync my phone and it says,"The iphone could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iphone". When I go to authorize it says it's already authorized.

Getting frustarted with itunes. I had to recently do a hard reboot ny iphone and attempted to sync my phone to get m apps back. When I go to sync my phone and it says,"The iphone could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iphone". When I go to authorize it says it's already authorized. Help!!!!

I first called apple and they patched me to a technician who ran a test and determined that I had a virus. He gave me some price quotes and who to call. After my conversation with him, which I knew was BS btw, I immediatley called Geek Squad with whom my computer has a warranty through after they installed virus software on my new laptop (4 months old). I had a VERY long online session where they ran several virus test and found nothing. Although I was VERY happy that my computer didn't have a virus, I still had the problem of my itunes not working. After several hours, he made sure that all of my apps were down loaded, and then restored my iphone to factory settings, and sync my device. It worked perfectly and all and I mean ALL 240 apps were downloaded back onto my iphone along with my music and all of my tones. When asked why my itunes was acting in that manner the answer that I got was,"...apparently you had a correct file some where in itunes and everything had to be reset". Regardless, everything is back to normal and I don't have to get a new phone or delete itunes from my computer. Hope this helps!

Try putting it into "Disk Mode" http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Then with it in this mode connect it to the PC and try to run the latest iPod updater to do a restore and update software if you have the option. the latest iPod updater is 2006-03-23 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

i have an ipod nano 7th gen and when i plug it in for itunes my computer says 'one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it'. what do i do?

As I said above, some of the new lightning cables have been known to be causing problems for some users.  Have it replaced if at all possible by bringing it into your local Apple Store's Genius Bar.

  • HT1386 When I plug my iPhone into my iMac via USB I can choose to "back up to this computer".  On another sync to my iMac, can I choose to " back up to the iCloud"?  This way I could restore all my info and settings from either source.  Is this possible?

When I plug my iPhone into my iMac via USB I can choose to "back up to this computer".  On another sync to my iMac, can I choose to " back up to the iCloud"?  This way I could restore all my info and settings from either source.  Is this possible?

On the phone, under Settings > iCloud you can select to turn iCloud ON or OFF.
One iTunes, it senses that toggle and if you had selected iCloud it will say backup to iCloud. Here you can change the toggle to backup to computer and click "Apply" prior to syncing.
I do both for good measure. I backup to computer and then after i disengage the device from the computer, I set the iCloud toggle back to ON and then perform the iCloud backup over wifi.
I found that using iTunes and saying to backup to iCloud isn't always successful in the "last backed up" time and thus I do it separately.
