ive gone as far as extracting it grom gz to cpio... the thing is... im totally clueless on how to actually install it. anyone with an easy to follow step by step documentation on how to set this up successfully?

I've been trying to download the newest version of itunes for the past month and I have yet to be able to install it. I haven't been able to connect my new iphone to my itunes to sync my music. When trying to install the newest version I come across this message:
"There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." The same thing occurs when trying to download the newest version of QuickTime.
What do I do???

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

For the other software I don't know, look at the sytem requirements and choose to download accordingly.

How can I install the SD version of a video instead of the HD version?

I purchased a bunch of Curious George TV Shows from iTunes for my son to watch on our iPad. These shows came in both SD and HD versions, and I can see that I have both versions on my hard drive.
Unfortunately, when I add them to my iPad via iTunes, it installs the HD versions of the shows. This takes up twice as much space as the SD versions, so I can't install all of them. The iPad runs of room.
We really don't need HD quality --- these are just Curious George cartoons and he'll just be watching them on an iPad, not on an HD TV set. I would expect there'd be some way to tell iTunes to install the SD versions, but I can't find any way to do that. Is it possible? Do I have to delete the HD versions from my hard drive?

iTunes in Mac OS X Tiger is outdated. Open  > Software Update to install the latest iTunes version for Tiger.
If you need iTunes 10.7 or a newer version, you have to upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. First, check that your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 If it is, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After buying Snow Leopard, make a backup of your data, insert the DVD and upgrade to Snow Leopard. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the latest Snow Leopard version. When I try to install 3.6.18 I get a message that the installation failed because an other copy of Firefox was running. But this is not the case. How may I install the downloaded new version?

I have tried to install this new version several times, but each time I got the same message. I have no other program running on the PC when I perform this installation. My present version is 3.6.16.

That file might have moved to a different location on the server. I think you'll need to check with RefWorks support or your local IT department on why the install page links do not work.

You weren't allowed to download it 'free' from the Mac Apple Store. You were allowed to download the 10.8.4 update from the Apple Downloads site which would allow you to update your currently installed version of Mountain Lion to the 10.8.4 version.
Go to the App Store in your Apple menu and buy Mountain Lion if you want it.

I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook. It runs "Linpus Linux Lite" OS. It came with Forefox 2 installed. I have searched the web for advice on how to upgrade to Firefox 3.5.
I had a go at it, I have now lost Firefox 2, but failed to install a later version.
Can someone tell me how t0 get either Firefox 2 back, or better still, unstall Firefox 3.5?
I should say that I'm a novice so I need really basic instructions.
If this plea for help doesn't work, I'll take my netbook to my local PC chap & ask for Windows to be installed on it!
