How do I install the Mac App Store on my OS X?

The download is not under Software Update. Do I have the right version?

You can get a free copy of Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.8 if you have a Mobile Me account. It is being offered to allow Leopard users to migrate to iCloud, but it will automatically give you the Mac App Store.

Well, you can cancel your Snow Leopard order if it hasn't already shipped. You need not wait on it as you can download Mountain Lion now that you have a redemption coupon (I assume that's what you meant by the email.)
After Mountain Lion is installed you can download a free copy of Mavericks. This all assumes that your computer meets the requirements for Mountain Lion.
Before you do any upgrade I strongly urge you to do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Personally, I would erase the hard drive then install the new OS X version. First, make a backup of your files from which you can later restore.

    Delete the App Store app by dragging it and dropping it into the Trash.  Then download and install the appropriate update combo for your version of OS X;

  • How can I install the proper App Store app to complete my upgrade?

I have Snow Leopard (10.6.8) installed on my iMac 27 (late 2010) but the app store app is not supported on this version. How can I get the proper app store app for SLP? My goal is to get back to Maverick.
I was running Maverick just fine but ran out of disk space. I had Best Buy install a Seagate 3TB drive. I reinstalled OS X 10.6.4 from my Install Disk. Then I upgraded the "software upgrades" to get 10.6.8.  Somehow I upgraded the App Store app to a version that is not supported on my current version of 10.6.8.
I appear to be stuck. Unable to go to App Store to down load Maverick.
Also, with the new Seagate 3TB drive, the fan runs continuously. Any ideas how I can move forward?

Regarding your fan issue I believe I am correct in assuming BBY did not install the correct HD. My suggestion is to first do several SMC resets which are designed to help with running fans, carefully read http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964. for information on what a SMC reset addresses. You can find instructions for doing the SMC resets in https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3603. A SMC reset will ONLY help if the correct HD was installed though.
If the reset does not fix the issue then return the machine to BBY, inquire if the drive they use has heat sensors integrated into the HD they installed and if not then get them to install the correct HD to address the issue.

  • How do I disable the Mac App Store?

I have a special needs son and for this reason I have to limit what he has access to on his iMac.
With the Mac App Store coming I had made the choice to simply not install/download the Mac App Store. I realized that this morning that is not an option, it is installed as part of the 10.6.6 update.
I removed it from the dock but still I realize it is installed on the Mac and for example it's an option on the Apple pulldown menu and I know there is an option of when a file cannot be opened there is an option to open the app store to find an app.
I looked at Parental controls but unless I am wrong could not find an option to completely disable the app store. I don't mind enabling it when I want to install certain apps on his mac that he will need. This may be convenient but simply don't want him to be able to get into the app store to install apps.
    Thank you for your help.

I agree. Current MAC is my first and I was happy with it. But this new direction means it will be my last. I've deleted AppSotre.app (or whatever it was called). but I still be Finder offering to search App Store for me !!! It is well and truly tied into the OS.
With windows you take what Microsoft what you to have. Now with Mac you take what Apple require you to have. So looks like Linux (where you still seem to have a choice).
Seems to be a lot of bad feeling caused by the fact that it cannot be globally disabled. Fanboys love it and hate any criticism yet many others are disappointed. For me, I'll give Apple a wek for a global disable/remove, them commit to Linux. (Of course I'll keep the Mac for Photoshop but no more updates and no replacement).

  • How can I reset the Mac App Store?

    Hello!
For some time now, I did not get any update in Mac App Store meaning that there was nothing when klicking on "Updates". Yesterday, I finally looked under "Purchases" (or how is it calles in the English version?) and saw that there were a couple of updates. So, I updated all of them. When returning to the purchases, they were still marked as Applications to update. After repairing the rights in Disk Utility, I got a new update this morning using the "Update" Button again. But all other programs do still have the update button as described even as they are updated already. The version of those I checked was the new one.
    What I did already:
    - I deleted 2 Apps in finder and installed them again - afterwards, again the Update-Button
    - I deleted cache and resetted everything in iTunes
    - I activated the debug menu and deleted the cache and resetted
    - I deleted files in ~/Library as described in https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0
It seems as if the MAS saves somewhere again which programs are installed in what versions. Probably it couldn't modify that file and is still showing the wrong details. Where can I reset that file? It's just not good if you don't know which App is updated and which one isn't.

    Sorry, that's not it:
If you have updates available there will be a red badge where you see Updates in the menu top of the App Store window.
That's what I did not have for a few weeks. That was the start...
I finally looked under "Purchases" (or how is it calles in the English version?) and saw that there were a couple of updates
Updates are not available from the Purchases tab.
Maybe I did not call that correctly, but updates are shown in Parchases tab as well:
Usually, the "Aktualisieren" Button is shown only, if there is an Update in Update tab as well. But that's exactly the thing that does not fit any more for a couple of Apps.
Just dragging the apps to the Trash does not delete all the associated files.
Download and install this free utility to uninstall apps > Download AppCleaner for Mac - Uninstall your apps easily. MacUpdate.com
I know that and I have AppCleander installed. But that's not the point since I do want to have a correct view inside the App Store. Instead of the red circles, there should the the word "installed".
Now when you re download an app, the latest version will be installed.
Disk Utilty / Permissions has nothing to do with your updates from the App Store.
Correct for the Application itself but all the data used by the App Store needs to be saved somewhere - that's what I'm talking about.
I hope I could make this a bit clearer now!
    Thanks for your quick answer!

  • How can I find the Mac app store if there is one?

I have one Apple ID. When I enter my Apple ID on my Mac I can only access apps for my ipad and iphone but not my Mac. Is there a mac app store?

There is a Mac App Store on Macs with iOS 10.6.6 and above; Snow Leopard, Lion and Mt Lion.
If you have a Mac App Store it can be accessed by a short cut in the Apple menu.

  • How can I fix the Mac App Store "Update All" button?

When I have multiple updates, the "Update All" button appears, but doesn't work. It's not greyed-out; if I click on it, it gets dark while I hold the mouse button down. But nothing happens. No error message; it just doesn't work.
I can manually update my apps one at a time; the "Update" buttons next to individual apps work.
    I'm running 10.8.5 on a MacBook Pro.
I've tried restarting, and repairing permissions, neither of which helped.

You need to update to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 to get the App store. If you're on an earlier version of Snow Leopard, just hit
     > Software Update
If you're on 10.5 Leopard, you'll need to contact Apple and purchase a Snow Leopard disk or a Lion USB Flash drive.

I just purchased a software upgrade to OSX Lion.  I received an e-mail that says, "To install your software, you simply launch the Mac App Store, click "Redeem"• found under Quick Links and enter your content code(s).  How do I "launch the Mac App Store?"

Assuming you are running OS X 10.6.6 or later (10.7.x Lion, 10.8.x Mountain Lion or 10.9.x Mavericks), go to the Apple Menu (top left-hand corner of the screen)>App Store and it should become clear from there.

  • It takes a full minute and a half for the Mac App Store Application to load on my iMac.  How can I fix this.  No other applications launch so slowly.

Whenever I click on the Mac App Store icon in my dock, I get the spinning wheel for a minute and a half.  It then loads.  While in the App Store application, it takes a minute and a half to switch from "featured" to "top charts" for example.  Nothing else on my 24" iMac takes that long to load.  Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Drag the App Store app from the Applications folder to the Trash. Drag the App Store icon off the Dock. It should go "poof"..
Download and install the v10.6.7 combo update.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1361
That should re install the Mac App Store for you. It's ok to do this even if you are already running v10.6.7
If the combo did not re install the MAS for you use Pacifist to extract the MAS from the v 10.6.7 .dmg folder.

  • Don't want the Mac App Store

I'm one of those rare fruit (Mac) users who doesn't care for itunes or anything of the sort (I'm really not a Mac fan; I got the computer because I can abuse it more and have it still function with the solid state hard drive). I hate seeing updates for itunes. I imagine the Mac App Store is similar (although for the OS), and I don't want it. How do I install 10.6.6 without installing the Mac App Store?
Also, I read in another thread that a fruit can hibernate. How would I do this? I hate the battery drain when I put it to sleep, and frequently have a bunch of stuff open because I'm completing a long project, like a 60+ page paper that takes me multiple days, if not multiple weeks to complete. Thanks.

That's a good idea (leaving it plugged in all the time) aside from the fact that I'm cheap as heck. Being poor has something to do with it since I'm a grad student. When I'm not using my printer, can opener, toaster, etc. I unplug them or turn them off. Because of this, during the summer I'm able to have electric bills under 20 dollars a month for my apt. I used to even turn of my router every night when I wasn't using it but got fed up with resetting it every time. I also don't use air conditioning and live in KY (my asthmatic lungs react better to heat with humidity than dryness, and to save $). I know - I'm completely different than the norm, but I get by with my quirks. How much do you think it would cost me extra a year to leave my computer plugged in and "sleeping" every night?
If I go into itunes with the preferences, could I make it so itunes never looks for updates? Thanks again.

I have a MacBook 1.83GHz and I have just downloaded 10.6.8 and I have the mac app store in my dock but it has a line through it and says I need 10.7 to open it. You don't have the Snow Leopard version. Perhaps you didn't install Snow Leopard since you cannot download it. You must purchase it:
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
