Please explain me as in what kind of old software do you intend to install on your macbook pro.
-    Please tell what OS X do you wish to run on your macbook, as you said you hate Yosemite.......??
-    Do you wish to do a clean install of your favoured OS X and later reinstall your old software...??
-    Also, do you want to restore the entire system files means the OS X along with the old software or just want to re install your old software on the existing OS X ...??

you could see if that make of printer has an uninstaller (may come with the installer)
or go to preferences, print and fax, and press the minus key ( - ) which should maybe remove it. Or ,do a a find, then type in the make of printer, and anything that looks like a printer driver for that make, well, maybe it's gotta go

For the other software I don't know, look at the sytem requirements and choose to download accordingly.

I don't know if this will work or not, but if your machine shipped with Lion, try booting while holding down the Command, Option and R keys. You may be able to format your drive and then reinstall Lion on it.

There is no macbook of any vintage that doesn't have a dvd drive if it has any kind of optical drive, but you can always install the trial and enter your serial number into that. You will lose the special link to uploading to costco if you do it that way, though.

How do I install the ScanSnap software on my new iMac / Mountain Lion?

I have been everywhere trying to figure this out. Fujitu's site tells me to simply update the software already installed. Problem is that it's not already installed. I don't have a disk drive and so I cannot install with the disk. I downloaded v3.2 (which seems to be the software itself) from the Fujitsu site but when I double click to install I get a small box indicating 'The following disk images cannot be opened' and underneath it leasts the ScanSnap.dmg with a reason of 'not recognized'. I know this is a popular scanner (I have the S1300) and so I am hoping someone has faced this and figured it out. Fujitsu's site is rather confusing on the topic.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I erased everything on my computer hoping to start from scratch... I went too far. Now I can't install 10.7 nor 10.6. Background... Thank you for replying. Nothing as in when the computer tries to install Lion from the internet it says 'not available at this time' or something along those lines.
How would I reboot to recovery partition? When I click on the Recovery disk, it states it is unable to.
I do not have an external drive.
I do have an other Mac, but it's ancient... it is 2003 17" iMac with no Intel and the highest OS it has is 10.5.8. It does have a Firewire, but in the article you stated, it said I needed to have 10.8 or higher as the host computer. :-( I also tried to put the System on USB from the iMac and then try to install in the Mini... nothing. But at the same token... I'm not 100% sure on everything I am doing. LOL!
If there is some way for me to start completely over from scratch and install an OS X in there, I am willing to do that. But I need step by step instructions... when I say step by step, pretend I don't know anything about computers. I have had Macs for many of years (20+ years), but have never had to go inside of it.
I also forgot to mention... before I erased EVERYTHING, I tried, okay I did go in to the root screen to try to copy what someone had posted to start for the install screen... that's when everything went wrong.
