getting error 1920 spooler error. is there a safe way to install? Why would I want to have to go to config.sys? Win 8 doesn't allow easy access to "start", please explain best procedure, least dangerous in Win 8 terms

I have this error, I am installing on a Win Server 2012 machine.
The only link I have found relating to this error describes solutions for Vista and XP;
"Error 1920. Service Print Spooler (Spooler) failed to start..." when installing Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Product…
This is not helpful for people using Win 8.X or Win Server 2012 who aren't familiar with 10 year old versions of windows and how they relate to modern versions.

You should be able to copy all the files from your old computer, although it might not work if the old machine didn't have an intel processor. When I got a new Mac a few months ago, I used the migration assistant to copy everything from my old computer's time machine backup disk. All my old pro apps, such as Final Cut Pro 6, work fine on the new machine under Lion.
Later, I wanted to install Soundtrack pro and couldn't do it from the original disks. So I installed it on my old machine and copied the files. It worked perfectly.

Forget Logic Pro 8 on your new macbook, it will not work. The "upgrade" to LPX will cost you around 200 bucks and can be acquired via the App Store.

If you own any verson of iPhoto '11 then there is a free update to version 9.5.x in the App store
If you own a previous version of iPhto (iPhoto '09 or earlier) then as always an upgrade to a new version (in this case iPhoto '11) is a paid upgrade and you purchase it in the App store
and no OS update/upgrade contains a version of iPhto - it is a seperate program and although it is included as part of every new Mac it is not a free program and never has been sinve version 1 or 2 (I forget when it changes)
