How do I integrate Ipad2 into a Windows Home network?

I have a Windows home network setup consisting of a number of computers running Windows Vista and Windows 7. I need to integrate my newly purchased IPad2 into this network; at the very least, I need to access the network printer.
Thanks in advance,
s660117

The only way to get your iPad into your network is if your network has wi-fi. You configure the iPad for a wi-fi network in Settings/Wi-Fi.
To print to your printer it needs to be an AirPrint printer. If not you may be able to print to the printer if it is USB and connected to one of your computers or your network's router. To print to a USB printer, you may be able to use an iOS printing app, available from the iTunes App Store or by installing AirPrint on the computer.

  • Persistent sharing problem with Leopard/windows home networking

as new Mac user I am surprised by the user friendly Mac+Leop.
So I assume it must be a bug (xp or leop??)that makes correct networking difficult.
1: The PC-xp sees the Mac and the shared folders but the content of folders is not possible to open nor is it possible to write into the folder
2: shared folders and files on the PC have read and write access from iMac (works correct)
    3: error message:
//mycomputer/public is not accessible you may not have permission to use this network resource
Contact the adminstrator of this server to find out if you have access permission
    4: my configuration

Any suggestion welcome , I followed already the "simple guide to Leopard/Windows Home Networking" from Mac support but the problem is persistent.

I'm having a very similar sharing problem. Did you ever get it resolved?

  • Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

  • How can I integrate iCal into my website?

Are there simple instructions on how to integrate iCal into my website? I'm looking for a traditional looking iCal calendar, but a table view would be OK, too.

I don't believe this can be done directly from iCal. A work around might be to save it has a .pdf file and put that in the site. Or save and upload it to Google Calendars and then insert it into the site with the supplied code. There is software that will sync iCal with Google, but I'm sorry, I can't remember what it's called.
    Good luck

  • Photos: How to best integrate Mac into existing photo structure?

    Hi,
We've just purchased a new iMac to integrate on our home network with a couple of PCs, printers, and other shared devices across the network. We currently use D-Link DNS-323 RAID drive as a NAS server on which we store all pictures in a Directory like structure -> Photos\Summer 2010\Paris... etc. I know that iPhone uses a different system where all the files are stored as a library on the local Mac.
My question is what is the best way to integrate and manage existing photos on the NAS server? Is there a way to use iPhoto so it does not break the existing structure?
    Many thanks,
    George

The best thing to do is not use iPhoto. It has no cross platform ability whatever. It can't run a library on a NAS (or any disk not formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)) and the file management tools in a situation where the Library is on one volume and the files on another are not good. See this thread for a full discussion of that:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3062728?tstart=0
So, it's really not the right tool for you.
    What is?
Well the first question is are you looking for something to manage your Photos? Or simply view them?

    TD

  • How to connect the Airport Extreme to Windows 2003 network?

    Hi there,
I recently bought an Airport Extreme. I plugged the wired cable to the Airport that previously was in my MacBookPro and gave me access to our Windows network.
What do you need to do in order to access the Windows 2003 network from the Airport Extreme?
Thank you very much in advance your help!
    Wildeagle

    Thanks Tesserax!
    for your support..
I changed it the way you told me..
it is very simple... and sounds very logic..
But after I did changed it in the correct IP address of the server
and I changed the IP address of the Internet Router (this was a must concerning the AP utility)
1> the internet was slown down..
2> the server was not reconisable by the iMac.. he gives the server a PC status ?!?!
3> the connection was poor and was not found in the AP network
very strange so I changed it to the old version
    is there really no option?
perhaps with the DHCP? or with the Internet router?
    FYI
    I have:
1: Internet/ connected with a HUAWEI router, recieved from my internet provider
2: connect the Huawei router with the AP Extreme Router
3: connect the AP Extreme router with the Server NAS
4: AP Extreme router is the basis.. and from there I do have an Apple Airport Network

  • How to setup password to protect my wireless home network

    Hi everyone.
Please bear with me...Im a newbie in Wireless Home networking.
I just bought today a WRT54G wireless router and I was able now to connect a (wired) desktop and WiFi laptop to it.
    My questions now are:
    1) how do I configure it such that it asks for a password before a device can connect to it?
    2) how do I know if someone else, or a neighbor is connecting/ connected to it?
    3) Is there a way for me to see list of all devices/PCs that are connected to it...just to know if an "outsider" is connected to it?
Im asking this because when i tried to connect that WiFi laptop, it connects easily without asking for a password. When I clicked on the Wireless network Connections....I found my router that says "Unsecured Wireless Connection"
However I wanted to have it "secured" or password-enalbled so that no one else can have free access to my Internet connection.
Please advise a newbie....will be greatly appreciated

I'm unsure of the firmware for version 7 but most of my adivce should still hold.
after doing some searching on WPA and WEP and WPA2, WPA is better, with WPA2 being better than that
so once you configure it for WPA (or WPA2 if a 54g v7 supports it) it should be as simple as entering a password and remembering it
as for seeing whose connected, that's the only way I know of doing it (on a 54g v5 since that's what I have) is to go into the mac filters and then check and see the wireless mac's that are connected. That's one of the only things I don't like about the 54g, is that there is no easier way to see who's connected.
if you want even more security, you could get the Mac address of your laptop, add it to the mac filter, and configure it so only that mac address can access the wireless router, though going this route means everytime you want to add a new wireless device to the network, you have to add it to the mac filter list.

  • How can I Access TC outside of my home network?

    Hi everyone:
I am new to the MAC World. We just bought my daughter a Mac Book Pro to use in University then added the time capsule at home so she would be able to back up her work over the internet and we would be able to use the WIFI and TC here at home.  We get to the University, set everythin up and Airport goes into a loop searching for the TC; it appears it cant see the TC.  We are using the wired internet through the school then go to a wireless router in my daughters dorm to allow her to access the internet both with her phone and computer.
Is there a simple fix for this?  I also have three other PC's other laptops and several cell phones accessing the home network at any given time but only need access outside my home to the TC for the MAC Book Pro.  The sales rep at Future Shop said it would be easy to hook up and access.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Martin

Ok.. you have to work out the way you are going to access the TC..
    There are basically three methods..
    1. Direct access using AFP.. you need a static public IP and the TC as the main internet router.. then you need to turn on internet access and password the hard disk. The college has to have port 548 open.
If you do not have a static public IP then you can use ddns service but there is no client in the TC.. so you will have to figure out a way to update the service.
    2. Use BTMM with icloud. This is the Apple method. It actually uses vpn..(the vpn is locked to apple use only but it is not available to end user).. The requirements are 7.6.1 firmware and lion or ML on a Mac computer. I am not sure of the ports because the link to the Apple cloud is separate from the vpn to your home system.
    3. VPN.. that means you need to bridge the TC and use a decent quality vpn modem / router or combo thereof.
VPN are not for the faint of heart.. it can take a lot of work to get running but offers the best security.. you will need to change the network equipment in your house more than likely.. using a pc / mac as a vpn server is possible.. but messy.
There are also easy ways to at least access the home computer.. teamviewer for example. This is likely blocked by the college though.
Double NAT is where you put a router on a private IP behind another router on a private IP.. that makes port forwarding close to impossible.

  • How to integrate Mac into a Windows environment?

My wife recently signed up as a volunteer in a non-profit.  She would like to use her MacBook Pro to access email on the organization's local network using Mail.app, rather than buying the Office Suite just to get Outlook.  Is that even possible?  If so, any suggestions how or where to get more information?

  • How do I integrate SpeedGrade into my Photoshop workflow?

This will likely sound insane, since SpeedGrade is obviously geared toward video projects, and Photoshop toward processing of still photos, but please hear me out.
I love Photosop CS6, and my absolute favorite new feature is the Color Lookup adjustment layer. So far, I've been extremely happy with the effects I've been able to pull off by combining that with other adjustment layers, channel work, etc.
However, I've gotten to the point where I realize that my next step -- much like a user who graduates up from using actions he/she downloads off of DeviantArt -- is to make my own color lookup tables. The only tool at my disposal for this is SpeedGrade. (I have a CS6 cloud membership -- off topic, but way to go, Adobe, that made it feasible for me to "graduate" from only having Photoshop CS5.1 to having the full suite at a very reasonable price!)
I've used SpeedGrade on video clips I've shot with my Canon 5D MkII to great effect. Nothing I'd post publicly yet (I'm still learning how to shoot motion), but I considered the results to be very positive. I've managed to save several test .look files, as well, both on video footage and still images (JPGs, to be specific).
I always shoot RAW, and my usual workflow is to start in Aperture (I'm a Mac user), do some basic RAW adjustments, then export a 16-bit PSD and get down to the real work in Photoshop. SpeedGrade doesn't yet seem to support PSDs natively, so in order to create a .look which is appropriate for my image, it currently looks like I need to export a JPG (down to 8-bit sRGB, ugh) from Photoshop, then open THAT in SpeedGrade, do my work, save my .look, go BACK into Photoshop, and use the .look file there.
I could live with that if -- IF -- the .look file actually gave me my expected results. However, the only time the .look behaves exactly the same in Photoshop as it does in SpeedGrade seems to be if I open the image as a JPG -- thus losing all my layers, adjustments, smart objects, etc. When I apply any of my .look files to a PSD, they come entirely too dark, every time. Many of them have simply turned an image into a large 22 megapixel black rectangle.
So my question is this: How do I make a SpeedGrade .look file behave predictably in Photoshop, in a 16-bit-per-channel PSD file? I'm OK with changing the color space if I have to (even if it's to sRGB, the bane of my existence) -- but I need to see the same thing in SG that I do in PS. Is this possible today, or am I waiting on the next SG release? Or, and I assume this to be the case -- as I'm a software engineer by trade, and know that this is almost always the case! -- is this a case of user error? And if so, what can I do to correct my user error?
Or, sacriligious as it may seem since I have all of Adobe's tools, are there other Mac-based products I can use to create color lookup files compatible with Photoshop?
In case it matters, here's my platform:
Canon 5D MkII, latest firmware, always shoot RAW
Apple Aperture 3.2.3 (sorry, Adobe, but ... y'know.)
Mac OS 10.7 (late 2011 MacBook Pro 17", 16 GB RAM)
Adobe Creative Suite 6 Cloud Subscription (photo, illustration, video tools installed; no Flash nor web tools)

Speedgrade does some funny things converting the image encoding with video, jpegs, exr files, etc.
Unfortunately, I never found documentation of exact what they do with each input format.
Sometimes they seem to convert the image data to linear (gamma 1.0) before processing, and sometimes they leave it alone.
So, it is possible, if you can figure out the rules that SpeedGrade is using, and if you can figure out all the controls in SpeedGrade.
As you may have noticed, that is not an application for a casual user :-)
Also, Photoshop only uses the color part of the .look - not the blurring or vignetting stuff that SpeedGrade can also do.
Now, I'd keep at it -- it took me about a week to learn the basics of SpeedGrade (even if I didn't figure it all out).
But in the end, I wrote my own tools to create most of the color lookup presets that ship with Photoshop CS6 (because it was easier in some cases, and because no tool existed to do what I wanted in a few cases).
Yes, before you ask, I'm trying to figure out ways to make my tools more user friendly so we could include them in Photoshop.

  • How do I integrate Apps into passbook?

I don't understand how the passbook is supposed to work.  It seems like the app is just a connection to the app store.  I added the Starbucks app and then loaded my gift card into it.  It only shows up in the Starbucks app.  How does the Passbook app help?

Kind of agree Apple didn't really explain this one too well..
I had the error where it couldn't connect to the iTunes store and thought you had to grab special Passbook apps... The apps that work with passbook are just normal apps that, well, support passbook.
I am flying later today and already have/use the American Airlines app. Went to check my boarding pass in the app and noticed I had the option to add it.... I clicked to do so (wasn't entirely clear what this was doing)... but then, Voila! My boarding pass is NOW in my Apple passbook.
Apps you already have or are avialable now that support passbook you just download and away ya go. Like the AA boarding pass 'add' option- I'd expect it's similar for any of the supported apps where you'll have this option where you view the pass, coupon, gift card, etc.
Would be nice to search for 'passbook' and see all the apps that support it... but not so unfortunately, at least not at the moment. Update those keywords!

  • How can i integrate canoe into labview?

I'm having trouble using canoe from labview.
I want to receive and send can-messages with a vector cancardx (pcmcia). Using the internet i found out, that this sort of thing is possible, but didn't find any tutorial or any hint on how to do this. Could someone please hint me to the right direction?
    thnx in advance.
    merlin

If you look in the back of the CANcard manual, you should see some info about interfacing to the CANcard driver DLL. You can then interface Labview to the DLL for the CANcard. I Don't know anything about interfacing to the CANoe program, but you probably will not be able to interface Labview to the CANcard at the same time as CANoe, because the CANcard can not be shared.
