How do I interpret Step 5 of Apple's calibration instructions?

Apple provides instructions on calibrating the MacBook Pro battery at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1490
Step 5 says "Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more."
Do they mean, noting my use of commas:
Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep, for five hours or more.
or
Turn off the computer, or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
If it's the latter that means I can proceed to step 6 immediately after turning it off?
And my second question about step 5, is how do I turn it off when it's asleep? (At the end of step 4 it's asleep).

If you think it's missing a comma, in my opinion it would be missing two commas.
"Turn off the computer, or allow it to sleep, for five hours or more."
Or, maybe even parentheses:
"Turn off the computer (or allow it to sleep) for five hours or more."
You need to wait the five hours, regardless of method. (At least, that's my reading of it. The battery needs five hours of rest after calibration.)
I will ask that the Apple Knowledge Base article be altered for clarification.

  • I recieved a scam email from apple. then sent me the same email using my own email account. how do I report this to apple. can't find any contact details.

hi over the past month have received maybe 5 scam emails from apple.
I opened one the other day cause I thought well maybe it is from apple.
went through the steps and it was  amazed at how well they did at copying apple website. you could even go to the apple shop page from their page!
what set me off that it was fake was that I tried to open the other apple pages along the top and it wouldn't let me. so I opened my own apple page and logged in. and realised that they don't ask for your bank details in your Apple ID account.
anyways so now what has happened is I got an email today " from myself" with this same scam email. it is as if they have hacked my email account and sending me these emails. I want to report this to apple but am unable to find any contact details apart from call back options. does any one have any advice on this.

I've had that same exact issue, I received the first e-mail claiming to be from Apple last night (though over the past week I've received two other scam e-mails from different addresses claiming that my bank transactions have been aborted). It said it was from my own address, and I checked it closely to make sure it wasn't a spoof account but found it was indeed my own e-mail address. Five minutes ago I changed my password, and I have just now received a second e-mail exactly the same, still coming from my own account. My best guess at an explanation is that it may have been sent before I changed my password and there was just a delay in the message sending, resulting in it coming through after changing my password.
I've now forwarded the e-mail on as an attachment to the [email protected] address, however this still doesn't help me with regards to stopping these e-mails. It concerns me that even though I changed my password they still possibly have access to my account. I tried checking my account activity but as opening the mail app on my iPhone is considered as a log in and I check it almost twice an hour, it's impossible to tell which could possible be an intruder logging in.

  • How do I find old forgotten apple id's

Here's a question and a story......Once upon a time in a land far far away......okay it's not really a fairy tale so seriously ....I have had my iPod Classic for ever and a day, love it, it goes with me every where BUT it is registered to an old Apple ID or at least the apple web site tells me it is.
Now, and here comes the story, once upon a time I owned a steam driven clunky old computer which I had spent many hours downloading my cd collection on to, I went away for a few days and on my return my clunky old computer was nowhere to be found neither was my VHS video (told you it was some time ago). My flat screen tv and various other electrical goods (including an electric toothbrush urgh!!) had also all mysteriously vanished. There was however a gaping hole where a window should have been!  It would appear I had been burglarised. Little did they know how slow that computer really was! Still there was 30 gigabytes of music on it. Fortunately the CDs were in the garage as I couldn't think where else to put them after I had uploaded them all so they didn't get nicked.
As a side note they never did catch the delightful young men who were so thoughtful in making me upgrade my electronics (expletive deleted)!
Anyway ............ I had to replace everything and while I was at it I changed internet supplier and therefore my e-mail (in the days before Hotmail g-mail and the like was so popular). As I had a company laptop by then and because I never got round to reloading my CDs on to any other PC and I was happy with the iPod as it was I never bothered to set up a new iTunes account until I got my IPhone. I now have an active Account with Apple TV, iPad and iPhone all registered to it. (I even got round to uploading all the Cd's again to the cloud). However in a moment of clarity and possible insanity I realised that although the new iTunes works with the iPod it is not registered to the new Apple ID.
So to cut a long story short....too late I hear you cry....I, for love nor money, can remember my old e mail, old security questions and therefore my old Apple ID, so I cannot deregister and re register my iPod.
Does anyone out there have any ideas as to how I go about asking Apple in a nice way to supply my old ID?
    Any ideas? Please? Anyone?

    Hello there, Confused Apples.
The following Knowledge Base article offers some step-by-step instruction for changing the email for your Apple ID:
Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
Sign out of iCloud, the iTunes Store, App Store, FaceTime, Find My Friends, Find My iPhone, and iMessage on each device that uses your current Apple ID for these services.

  • I have iTunes on my laptop but it is registered to an apple id for an ipod which I have not used/owned for years.  How do I add my new apple id which I use on my iPhone to my iTunes on my laptop?

I recently purchased two songs which refuse to download on my iPhone 4s.  Other songs from the same albums downloaded just fine.  In an attempt to recover these songs I opened iTunes on my laptop which I have not used since I sold my ipod years ago.  The iTunes on my computer is associated with an old Apple ID that was connected to my iPod.  How do I get my new Apple ID synced with the iTunes on my laptop?

    Hello Leanna,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing.  You can sign into iTunes with your Apple ID using these steps:
Use your Apple ID with the iTunes Store
Open the latest version of iTunes.
    Choose Store > Sign In.
Enter your Apple ID and password and click Sign In.
Click Review when asked to review your information.
    Enter your billing information.
Click Continue after you enter your credit card and billing information. You can remove or edit your credit card information at any time. Learn more about updating your iTunes Store account information.
Using an existing Apple ID with the iTunes Store, Mac App Store, and iBooks Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2589
You will also need to authorize your computer to play purchases with this Apple ID:
    Open iTunes
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer. (In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
With the latest version of iTunes on Windows, the menu bars are hidden, so you may need to enable them to get to the Store menu.  You can follow these steps to enable the menu bars:
To keep the iTunes menus active, change the setting by selecting the Menu icon in the upper-left, and then selecting Show Menu Bar. Alternatively, you can press Control-B.

  • HT5312 How do I make a new apple account and delete the one I have now? I don't know my password for the id they use and it won't let me use my current email address?

How do I create a new Apple ID and delete my current one?

You can't delete an account, all you can do is remove any personal info from in and stop using it - but anything that you downloaded from the stores with it will remain tied to that account.
If you don't know the password for it then try this page to get it reset : http://iforgot.apple.com
If you also don't know your security answers, then if you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then steps 1 to 5 on the page that you posted from should let you reset them : go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account, then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you won't get the reset option - you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.
Contacting Apple about account security : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
When they've been reset (and if you don't already have a rescue email address) you can then use the steps half-way down the page that you posted from to add a rescue email address for potential future use.

  • How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my bush LCD32TV022HD which does not have an HDMI port but does have 1)S-Video I/P, 2)Video I/P, 3) L

How can I connect my 3gen apple tv with HDMI to my BUSH LCD32TV022HD
This does not have an HDMI port but does have:-
    1) S-Video I/P,
    2) Video I/P,
    3) Audio Input (Left & Right)
    4) Audio In jack (for VGA and DVI source)
    5) DVI input
    6) VGA input

    Welcome to the Apple community.
The Apple TV doesn't officially support a DVI connection, however you may be able to get it to work. You will first need to check that your TV supports either 720p or 1080p as well as HDCP. If you are able to get the video working over the DVI connection, you may also require a DAC in order to connect with Apple TV's optical audio output to the TVs audio imput.
You may well wish to make sure that the DVI connection works before spending any money on a DAC..

  • How can I turn my French apple account into Australian one to be able to buy a Iphoto book I've made?

    hi
How can I turn my french apple account into an Australian one , to be able to buy a Iphoto book I 've created ?

And you need to set the "Print Products Store" in the iPhoto Preferences "Advanced" to the country you are in. The credit card you will be using with your AppleID needs to be valid in the country your AppleID is registered to. Will you be staying permanently in Australia? Maybe it wuld be simpler to create a second AppleID just for the time of your stay there.
