How do I join clips in iMovie, the join clip in the edit menu is never available?

I am desperately trying to edit some footage and I have split the clips and then added the footage I want inbetween the split, however I cannot join them back together as the joinclip in the edit menu is never highlighted, am stuck on what to do now, anyone help please?

The Join Clip command is meant to restore a clip that you split and then decide you want to "undo" the split.
It's really not particularly useful or necessary for editing.
The clips you use in your Project will all be effectively joined together when you export (Share) your finished project.
As you're editing your Project it appears as a bunch of separate clips but the finished project will playback as a seamless whole.

Yesterday and today the top half of my Edit Menu in Safari 5.1.10 is grayed out and unusable.  I have tried everything I can think of including reinstalling Safari, repairing permissions, restarting.  I am at a loss.  Can someone tell me what to do to get the menu working again?

I'm replying to my own question - I have no idea what has changed in five hours, but I just logged on again to see if anyone had repllied to my question - and the problem is fixed!  A total mystery to me, but thank you anyway.  I think these discussions are of great help when you have a problem and no "guru" to go to.  Thanks.

Just curious as to why it's coming up as a copyright violation?
Hard to say.  I think FaceBook errs on the side of abundance caution when they detect anything that sounds like music.
It's also possible to that people use samples of various pieces of iLife audio contest to create a piece of work that they then copyright.

  • How to delete iphoto movies in imovie

    Hello,
I imported all of my iphoto movies into imovie and now I can not figure out how to delete them from the imovie event library. The import used 8GB of memory and I need the space. I searched the forums but I can't figure it out. All help is appreciated. Thanks

    Hello All,
I found out what happened. For some unknown reason, when I imported the movie clips into imovie they were copied within the iphoto folders. Before the import they were just in the Originals folder. After the import they were located in both the Data and Originals folder in the iphoto path. I was speaking to an Apple Care rep when we found them. At first he was sure that imovie would not copy thm and asked me why I thought that my disk space had been reduced by 8GB. I knew because I watched my free space dwindle during the two hour import and noted the space available before and after the import. He said that this was very odd and imovie should not have not have copied the files and he will report it to Apple. Thanks,

  • Selecting multiple clips in Imovie for Iphone for plus Ipad 2?

hi guys first post on these forums i hope you can help.
I recently downloaded imovie from the app store for my iphone 4 and so far have been really impressed with it. However there is one problem i'm having. I would like to select multiple clips from my camera roll without having to keep going back into the media section and having to scroll down to find the clips for everyone i want to add. Is there a way of selecting multiple clips? any help appreciated!

There is a way to load multiple video clips at once on iMovie's timeline on the iPad.
I have been able to load multiple video clips into my iPad's iMovie's timeline at the same time, but this process requires the combined use of iMovie and iPhoto and won't work if you have iOS 8 running on your iPad.
This is the way I do it.  You create an iMovie project (Movie) on your iPad.  iMovie will show the video clips that you can load to the timeline, but, as you have probably already found out, you can't load more than one clip at a time in iMovie's timeline.  My videos have sometimes 100-200 clips, so loading them into the timeline one-by-one is a very long and tedious process. I do this instead:
    (1)  I go to iMovie and load the first clip on the timeline using iMovie. (This needs to be done to avoid iPhoto importing its background music to your video clips in iMovie.)
    (2) Then I get out of iMovie and go into iPhoto.  iPhoto shows you all the photos, but more importantly also all the videos in your Camera Roll.
    (3) In iPhoto, I select the next video in the Camera Roll (the one right after the clip that I already placed on iMovie's timeline).
    (4) Next, I hit the icon at the top of iPhoto that takes you to the "Share" section (the icon is a square box with an arrow pointing to the top).  This will open a dialogue box that has a section there for "Apps" and you will see the iMovie icon.
    (5) Select the iMovie icon, it will open a dialoge box that reads at the bottom: "Choose Photos...".
    (6) Select "Choose Photos..."
    (7) Now you can select up to 15 video clips in iPhoto to load into iMovie's timeline.  You select each video by tapping it, it becomes encased in a white square and will show a check mark.
    (8) After selecting up to 15 video clips, hit "Next" in the top right corner, you will be taken to iMovie.
    (9) In iMovie, you will be asked to select the project into which the clips are to be placed.  Select the project and the clips will all be loaded at once into iMovie's timeline.
Repeat the process again each time to load more clips; the process will place each new group of clips on iMovie's timeline right after the previously loaded clips.  When you return to iPhoto, the clips that appear encased with a heavy white border are the ones that have already been placed in the timeline for iMovie; select the next uncased clip and 14 more and load them into iMovie in the same way as described before.
One word of caution:  This process only works using iMovie and iPhoto together.  iPhoto does not work with iOS 8!  (Thank you, Apple!)  That's why I don't have iOS 8 on my iPad, so, the process works fine.  I hope this helps.
    Cheers,

  • How to use iphoto movies in imovie?

I called apple customer care but they were unfortunately not helpful.
I have imported pictures and videos into iphoto and I would like to use the videos there under imovie.
Some videos (both taken on iPhone and a digital camera) appear in the imovie "iPhoto" section. but some just simply dont appear there.
When I called Apple Care, I was told that only Iphone movies were compatible through iphoto and imovie, but I can see videos i took on a camera in imovie under iphoto.... but only some...
On the apple website, it says that you should be able to access videos on iphoto from imovie.
I have looked up other support forums etc.. but I dont seem to find the right solution for me.
I did try to uninstall both iphoto and imovie, and re-install, but that made no change.
I imported videos into imovie separately, but I assume that takes up twice the space on the SSD. Since its only 256... i would rather avoid any extras...
If anyoneone knows a fix around this issue, please help! Thanx.
Also, is there a way to migrate the whole imovie library onto an external drive as it wil take up a lot of space?

  • Procedure and Format for emailing a short video clip from iMovie 08

I use one of the new Panasonic HiDef AVCHD digital video cameras. iMovie 08 works great, no complaints there. From time to time I would like to email very short (5-20 second) video clips, rather than putting them up on iWeb, YouTube, etc.
There are so many "sharing" options, and I haven't had much luck with emailing these short clips. Many of the recipients are Windows users, so I'm not sure QuickTime is the answer. What is the best way to email short video clips from iMovie 08?

What is the best way to email short video clips from iMovie 08?
Assuming you and your recipients' mail clients all allow attachments up to 10 MBs, then a 20-second clip can have a combined data rate of up to 500 KB/s (4.0Mbit/s). This means you can use any share/export compressions format option available to you from within iMovie '08. Therefore, the real question becomes, what compression formats can your recipients play. Have you tried asking them to see if there is a single compression format that everyone can play? If no QT compression format is compatible everyone, then you will likely have to perform a secondary conversion to one that will be compatible. H.264/AAC would provide the smallest files for a given level of quality but require QT 7 (or similar multi-media player). MPEG4/AAC would probably be the most compatible format you can export directly from within iMovie '08. (Would have recommended Sorenson 3/IMA but data rate limitation appears to be ignored.) MPEG-1 files can probably be played by everyone but have higher data rate requirements which may restrict files to SD dimensions and require additional software to create external to iMovie '08. DivX or WMV would probably make your Windows users happy but requires Mac users to have a compatible component for viewing in the QT Player.
Try the "Export using QuickTime" Share menu option ("Movie to MPEG-4") settings:
    Video
    MP4 File Type
    MPEG-4 Improved Compressor
Data rate in the range from 1,000 (640x480) to 3800 (near HD dimensions)
    Current (or user specified) dimensions
    Current Frame Rate
    Key Frame every 24 frames
    Audio:
    AAC-LC Music
    Mono
    64 Kbps Data Rate
    44.1 KHz Sampling Rate
    Better Quality

  • Cannot import clips into iMovie 08

I have a few clips that were spliced together with QTPro and now I cannot import them into iMovie08. I have checked the movies themselves and I do not see any specific info that would cause a problem.
I cannot drag and drop the clips into iMovie nor can I use the import function, as the .mov files are greyed out.
This didn't happen before I upgraded to QT Pro.

    AAC, MPEG-4
For the moment will assume you mean QT MPEG-4 here and not something like Microsoft's non-standard variation. (If not QT then please advise.) In the case that it is QT MPEG-4, did any of the source files contain extraneous tracks like an iPhoto slideshow with its "Tween" track. Such extraneous tracks are not understood by iMovie '08 and it will reject their import. If so, then use QT Pro to delete the extraneous track(s)

  • How can i use cropping  in imovie 11 on the clips that i cut away with and still put it in HD

    Hi there,
I do have one problem dealing with the videos I make in my iMovie 11: I want to set my videos to HD using Quicktime. I already know how to do that. But, the problem is that I use cropping and ken burn effects on my vids when I use cutaway (a really major problem since I use this most frequently in my videos), picture-in-picture, and side-by-side. After I exported my vids to Quicktime, I wanted to look at them. But, for some reason when I was watching my iMovie videos on Quicktime, it included every little bit of my clips. It didn't crop the clips at all. It showed everything. I'm kind of upset about this because I have projects due this month and I really didn't want part of some clips to show. I really needed them cropped and/or ken-burned. Plus, I need to set them on HD.
Whenever I played it back in the iMovie preview, my videos played exactly as I wanted it to play. The cutaway clips, picture-in-picture clips, and the side-by-side clips were cropped and ken-burned just as I wanted it to be. But, on my Quicktime, it didn't do the same.
Here's the procedure that I use to export my videos:
Step 1:  I finish making my video with the cutaway clips, picture-in-picture clips, and side-by-side clips already cropped and/or ken-burned.
Step 2:  I click on "Share." Then, I click on "Export using Quicktime."
Step 3:  I click on "Options."
Step 4:  I click on "Settings." Then, I make sure the Compression Type is H.264, Frame Rate is Current fps, Key Frames is on Every 24 frames, Frame Reordering is checked, Compressor Quality is on Best, Encoding is on Best Quality (Multi-pass), and the Data Rate is on Automatic. After this is done, I click "OK."
Step 5:  I click on "Size." I make sure the Dimensions is on 1920 x 1080 HD (mainly because I really need it in HD for doing projects for school and uploading other videos to Youtube, Dailymotion, and other sites). I also click on Preserve aspect ratio using: Letterbox. Then, I click "OK."
Step 6:  After I set the settings for Sound, I make sure that Prepare for Internet Streaming is on Fast Start. Then, I press "OK."
Step 7:  I save my file name and export to Quicktime.
Step 8:  Once it already exports to Quicktime, I open the file and look at my video that I just made. (At this point, I realized that my videos that were used as cutaways, picture-in-pictures, and side-by-side clips didn't show the parts I cropped or ken-burned on. It practically showed every little part of that clip that I use those effects on. I really wanted it to be cropped or ken-burned as much as possible.)
So, that's my problem that I have at the moment. I really needed it cropped and/or ken-burned and set the video on HD. I would really appreciate your thoughts on how I should fix this problem.

On one of my clips it says:
Format:  Apple Intermediate Codec, 1280 x 720, Millions
                 16-bit integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
    Current Size: 1280 x 720 pixels (Actual)
    Another clip I use says:
Format:  Apple Intermediate Codec, 960 x 540, Millions
                 16-bit integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
    Current Size:  960 x 540 pixels (Actual)

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

I have a lot of HD video on my hard drive that I eventually want to edit in iMovie, but just don't have the time now.  It is clogging up the computer, though.  How do I take the Hd clips off Mac for later editing?

    See "Storage drive" here
    Most commonly used backup methods
Th problem with HD video is it needs a fast external interface, so you should pick a external drive that uses the fastest interface your computer has to offer.
Performance rank fastest to slowest is
    Thunderbolt, USB3, (newer Mac's)
    Firewire 800, USB 2, Firewire 400, USB 1 (older Mac's)
    Newer Windows PC's have USB3, older one's USB 2,1.
You need to format the drive if it comes FAT which a lot do, as FAT has a 4GB file size limit, so this won't work with large HD video files.
So if your  going to use the drive only with a Mac, then head to Utlities > Disk Utility and format it Options: GUID Format: OS X Extended Journaled. (select the drive makers name and click Partition tab)
If your going to use the external drive with a PC, take it to the oldest PC you have and right click and format exFAT.
If you have a Windows XP machine and there is no exFAT, it can be downloaded for free from Microsoft.

  • In iMovie, how do you modify the duration of all the clips at once?

In iMovie, using Mavericks O/S, how do you modify the duration of all the clips at once?

To set the duration of any clips to be added in the future select the project then "Settings" above the viewer.    Adjust the slider to the right of "Clips" to the desired duration.
To change clips already in the timeline, select all of the ones you want to change (so they have a yellow border), click on "Adjust" then click the info button (i in a circle).  You will see "Duration:"  Set the time in seconds and press return.
