How do i keep itunes from tyring to open in other sessions

Is there any way to keep itunes from constantly trying to launch itself in every user session that is currently logged on?

This is usually caused by missing or incorrect ID3 tags. See this web page for more information: http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp

  • How do I keep itunes from putting things into the cloud after I've downloaded them?

Hello - Not everyone lives in Silicon Valley or New York City.  I have a relatively slow internet connection so it takes about 2 hours to download a 45-minute tv episode.  Yesterday I did that, and today I went to watch it and it had been put back in the cloud!  "No problem," says Apple, "You can download it again."  It takes f**** 2 hours to download it again.  How can I keep Itunes from putting things I've already downloaded back into the cloud?

How do I keep itunes from putting things into the cloud after I've downloaded them?
You don't. They are in the cloud as soon as you make a purchase. As in immediately/right now. They don't get uploaded from yoru computer to the cloud.
Did you delete it after you watched it?

  • How do I keep iTunes from automatically transferring purchases from my iPhone?

Well, earlier in the year I had a Hard Drive failure. After having it fixed not all my files where on my Mac, including my iTunes media. So I connect my iPhone and it asks me if I want to transfer purchases? I click yes, the transfer wnet fine but some old media transferd too. I didn't want it so I simply deleted it. But when I plug my iPhone in now, it automatically says transfering purchases from Alex's iPhone. I then clicked on the "X" to cancel the task. But how do I keep iTunes from automatically transferring the old material?

iTunes/Preferences/Devices - Select "Prevent iPods, iPhone, iPads from syncing automatically."

  • How do I keep iTunes from moving files when I add them to my library?

I use a site where artists give away their songs via torrent, so I like to seed as much as possible. But recently when I've added files, they're removed from their original folder and moved to a more generic "music" folder. How can I keep iTunes from doing this, so that my uploads aren't interrupted?

In iTunes, go to Edit > Preferenes > Advanced, and make sure that "Keep..." and "Copy..." are both unchecked.

  • How do I stop iTunes from starting up in the other active Windows sessions?

I have multiple (3) user accounts on a windows (Vista) computer. When I start iTunes from one account iTunes wants to also start up on each of the active windows accounts and continues to attempt to start iTunes after some time period (90 seconds?).
I get a error screen on the attempts for the User that should not be starting iTunes that reads:
You cannot open the application "iTunes" because another user has it open.
Ask the other user to quit the application, then try again.
I want iTunes to run within only one account. How do I stop iTunes from starting up in the other active accounts?

Connect iPhone - iTunes will launch
select iPhone in iTunes' left column
in iTunes' main window untick "Automatically sync ..."

  • How can I keep iTunes from importing doubles?

I am wondering if there is a way to keep iTunes from downloading (pulling from the cloud) doubles of music.  I would like to update my computer and iPad so that the two music libraries match, however iTunes doesn't seem to recognize that some of the songs are already on one or both devices.  So the problem ends up being, that I have doubles of some songs, even though I have chosen the option (Not on this iPad or Not on this Computer).  Any thoughts....

  • How can I keep iTunes from opening when I insert a CD?

I have gone through the preferences again and again, and I can't find a way to keep iTunes from opening whenever I insert a CD. iTunes is not my preferred player/encoder, and I don't want it to open unless I tell it to.
Case in point, I'm converting many CDs to mp3, using an application that gives me the filename format I want (iTunes isn't that flexible enough to do that). It is annoying for iTunes to keep butting in, every time I insert a CD!
    Thanks for any advice.
    L.

When you first insert a CD your Mac comes up with a box saying
"You have inserted a CD" (duuh, Apple...)
Then you choose from a pop-up menu that offers "Open in Finder", "Open in iTunes", etc
At some point you (or someone) has chosen "Open in iTunes" then checked the little box that says "Make this the default from now on".
If you go into System Prefs (as already mentioned) you have a choice to reset what you want to do with a blank CD.

  • How can I keep iTunes from automatically reseting it's library? Or, a faster way to bring my files back?

I have decided recently to back up all my audio to iTunes, seeing at it is a powerful tool for audio archiving. My issue is that I want to keep my hard drive free of the enormous library, so I have an external drive dedicated to it. In the advanced features, I can set that. But, why in the world does iTunes insist on relocating my library when I forget to plug in the external disc? I know why, to make a smooth experience for me in the short term -- since these are built for a mass market that doesn't think -- but for me, I know what I want, but sometimes I'm forgetful. So if Apple wants a smooth experience for me, then how about this oversight? The reorganization process ("keep iTunes organized" preference) goes through all 300 hours of audio library by piecemeal, when it should just be looking for changes and surpassing anything that doesn't look different. Perhaps it is only looking for changes but can only do so by piecemeal, anyhow this seems like something that could be devised in preferences. Am I missing something? Can't iTunes send a warning before importing in to a reset library? Does this question make sense?

If it reverts to default because you forgot to plug the drive in, plug the drive in and start iTunes with the option key held down and show it the library on the external.
    Does this question make sense?
The first part did. I started to drift after the "keep organized".

  • How to I keep iTunes from covering my hidden task bar?

Is there a way to keep iTunes on the windows OS from dominating so that I can't see my hidden task bar?  This is very annoying as with iTunes open, I'm not able to switch programs using the the task bar.
I know I can do Alt-TAB and other things, but I don't like iTunes always on top!  I don't use it to watch TV or Movies on, I use my apple TV for that.

I found the button for IPOD options in Itunes, which appears on the lower right hand corner of Itunes ONLY when the IPOD is plugged in (recommend Apple looks at having it always there) and unchecking the "start Itunes automatically when Ipod is plugged in" box. If you have an IQ over room temperature, your computer doing things automatically for you is usually just not a good idea.

  • How do I keep Itunes from restarting my "shuffle"?

I have over 2,000 songs on my 30GB Ipod, and I always have it set on shuffle. I am new to Ipod, and after listening for a while the first time, I went to charge the Ipod by plugging it into my computer. Just before I plugged it in, I noticed in the corner of the "now playing" screen that it said something like "playing 92 of 2156", meaning it had so far shuffled through 92 of the songs on my Ipod, in random order, without repeating any - sweet! However after I hooked it up to my computer, recharged it, and then shut down Itunes so I could start listening again, I noticed it had restarted the shuffle que, and now said "playing 1 out of 2156." Is there any way to keep it from doing that?

  • How do I keep ITunes from automatically starting when I boot my PC?

Everytime I start my PC, my I tunes starts automatically. I close it an it automatically starts again 5-6 minutes later. It happens when my IPhone is not connected. The problem began immediately after I updated to the new IPhone iOS 5 software.

I appreciate the help attempt greatly, however, I do not have an Iphone, only an Ipod that I use with Itunes. Basically I have Itunes on my Windows PC, (NOT MAC) and it just has a mind of its own and opens randomly, whenever. I have scanned and searching the Itunes application for something to click off for automatically run, or something to that effect and I see nothing. There has to be a way to disable Itunes from running automatically. It has nothing to do with whether or not my ipod is attached.

  • How do I keep itunes from launching when I plug in my headphones

I have a set of Bose headphones with an inline mic/remote and there are times that I plug it into my Air Itunes with keep trying to launch and play music. I can close itunes and it will relaucnh. The only way to stop it is to disconnect the headphoes. I use these headphonoes on my ipad and iphone with no issue.
Any advice on how to stop this?
    Thank you,
    Justin

Normally, iTunes would only launch if you push the start/stop button of the remote.
Means, that if iTunes launches (and keeps re-launching) as soon as you connect the headphone, there's something wrong with the headphone jack in your Mac.
It can be as simple as requiring cleaning:
With the Mac shut down, try to blow the headphone jack out, e.g. with compressed air - you can get that in cans.
Do not use liquids! The one thing you may c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y do is using a cotton bud (Q-tip) and as little as possible isopropyl alcohol on it to clean it from sticky stuff. Repeat a few times, let it dry well before turning the Mac back on.

  • How do I keep iTunes from creating a new playlist after I edit a current playlist on my iPhone?

I am trying to figure out how to keep my iTunes library from creating a second playlist on my computer when the first playlist is edited on my iPhone. The situation is as follows:
    1. Create "playlist" on computer.
    2. Sync iPhone and upload "playlist."
    3. Listen to "playlist" for a couple hours and wonder how "lame song" made the cut.
    4. Edit "playlist" on iPhone to remove "lame song."
    5. Check iTunes and realize the editing "playlist" on iPhone has created "playlist 1" with "lame song" removed.
I am sure that there is a checkbox somewhere that I am missing. Any help?

No, there is no custom setting for this. I wouldn't advise it, but if you really want you could downgrade to the older folder layout. However all your other folders will be arranged in the old layout too which may no be what you want.
See this old post of mine for more details. (Read the last bit first.)

  • How do I keep iTunes from copying songs from iCloud to playlist?

Why is iTunes copying songs from iCloud to playlist when I already have the songs on my computer? This is obvously redundant and just duplicates songs I already have. How do I just drag over songs from my Library to my playlist without copying them from ICloud??

Posting just a question mark, which was all that was contained in your post subject line and body when I replied, did indeed stump me, as it would have anyone without psychic powers.  Now that you've posted an actual question, someone may be able to help you.

  • How can I keep Itunes from wanting to put my music cd in the compilations folder.  Even a 2 disc set sometimes itunes will place one cd in a folder of the name of the band and the other disc in the compilations folder under the name of the cd

Two issues.  The first one is that when I upload some music cd's into my itunes library, itunes wants to place the songs in a compilations folder.  Sometimes this occurs even with a 2 or 3 cd set.  One CD will be filed under the artists name and the disc 2 may be filed in the compilations folder and listed by the name of the cd and not the artist.
2nd issue is that sometimes cd's are similiar, but with different artists such as 20th century Hits of Neil Young.  The CD is filed in the compilations folder.  Than I upload the 20th century Hits of Tanya Tucker and the songs go into the same folder with Neil Young.  The don't even mix as one is county and the other is rock.
I have moved these CD's out of the compilations folder and moved them in with the other cd's by the same artist, but Itunes keeps moving them back into the compilations folder.
    Is there a fix

Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
For compilations that aren't, select all tracks, Get Info, and on the option tab set Part of a Compilation to No. If it already says No tick the box alongside, then click OK.
For deeper problems see Grouping tracks into albums.
